Great brewpub to visit while in Madison. Service was good, great selection of draft beer! Did not have food during my visit, but it sure smelled good! Definitely a must stop brewpub.

(Visited 08/2014): Ale Asylum is located on the northeast part of Madison near the airport on Pankratz. There is a large parking lot in front of the building.
The interior is dark with sort of a heavy metal theme, with red walls and hanging lights. The beers available are denoted by lit signs behind the bar.
As for the beers, there are around 11 available. On our visit the menu included a Blond, Hefe, Nut Brown, Kink Belgian, Porter, Stout, Amber and a couple IPAs. A sampler is available. The beers were above average on the whole.
Service on a relatively slow Friday evening was good. The bartender was personable and knew the beers.
We did not have food on our visit.
Overall this is a worthwhile brewpub to visit in Madison, with nice ambiance and a solid beer list.

Probably my favorite brewpub in Madison. This is a large place, with a tankard visible outside. The taps available are available as signs above the bar, lit if on, dark if off. No TVs. They had about 10 taps, all were excellent. I really enjoyed Big Slick (a super chocolatey stout) and Bedlam (a Belgian IPA). Calyptic session IPA and Ambergeddon were solid as well. The menu is a few salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. The chicken peanut salad was delicious. Overall, excellent beer, this place is not to be missed.

Stopped by here at 1pm on a Sunday, at the end of my trip to Madison for GTMW. You canít drive by this place in miss it. Itís very big and conspicuous. Outside looks pretty cool and modern. Very easy parking. I only entered the taproom, didnít explore much further. I was hungry for lunch, but the limited menu didnít really interest me, mostly because I didnít feel like spending $12 on food. The metal menu is neat, though, and the food looked pretty good. No small 4oz samples are offered afaik... Either a splash or a 7oz shorty. Shorties were reasonable at just $2, but the flight of 6 6oz pours was $15. Not sure how that works, maybe I misheard (no, I asked again and thatís how they do it... I was scratching my head on this.). The taproom is pretty airy bright and aesthetically pleasing. Spacious comfortable modern and smartly decorated. Beers I tried were solid, above average. A solid place worth visiting all in all, but if I was a local I donít think Iíd be here often, after trying all the beers.

Visited 09/2013 after a very adventurous bike ride in the direction of the airport over the adjacent golf course and through hedges. Probably advisable to come by car, given the size of the parking lot. Refurbished industrial look with large tables and some cozier nooks and corners. Attentive enough student service scurrying about. Had tastes of all of our 10+ groupís tasters, but at that point I was just happy to get something with punch to drink to drown out the bramble stings and only the Hopalicious stood out. Quite a few other reputable offerings went out quickly...Will have to revisit in person or by growler.

This is probably the most professionally designed and built brewpub/micro brewery that Iíve ever had the pleasure of visiting. The beer was good, but nothing really stood out. None of the more highly rate beers were available when I visited. I enjoyed my food choices. Even though the location is out by the airport, I feel that this is a plus because as great as downtown Mad City is, it can be awfully difficult to find a place to park.

Magnificent. Absolutely great beers. Very cool atmosphere and great service. Itís not in the centre of the city but thatís why it was easy to reach by car. I definitely would like to visit again.

Very nice location. Close to the freeway and they have a nice patio as well as well decorated interior. The service was friendly albeit not overly knowledgeable on the beer. The food was good as well. With all that this could be a fun hang out if the beer was better. The tripel and the one IPA were alright but the others were a let down. They donít do flights outside but you can order a flight of 5 inside at the bar. So after we each finished our pints and food we went inside and ordered a flight. They also said that they give brewers a free beer and since we had a brewer with us they gave him a free glass of the IPA but spent the whole time asking about his brewery and why he didnít bring any beers to share. Probably better to not say anything. Also, the stout, oh man. After about 150 beers tried on the weekend that was the worst. It came out really murky, looking like chocolate milk. The initial taste was very burnt and ashy. That flavor continued to build in intensity, much like some chilis do. After about 5 seconds I was downing other samples just to get the taste out of my mouth. Horrible. Why would you serve that? Who thought that was a good idea?
