Visited during Brewvival. Large warehouse that gives away its formal military use. Tasting room is right in the production area, essentially, which only adds to the atmosphere - the focus is the beer. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, helpful with news of beery happenings elsewhere in the city. All the beers I tried were solid, with a couple that were top notch. Growlers, bottles available. A very worthwhile stop.

Itís a little unique to to approach a brewery thatís surrounded by a barbed wire fence, but thatís the joy of have ex-navy base property. Itís a small production and patrons are basically within their production facility, just in a little corner walled off by gear - cans, keg, and equipment. Itís a bit cramped, but a very communal feel. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely want to make beer that people like. roughly $5 a pint, with flights offered, and some bottles on site for purchase. Apparently, on most weekends, a local bbq joint fires up a smoker in the front yard to provide food, but I was out of luck this visit.

Coast is in an old naval warehouse originally used for storing documents. Shipbuilding finished in the naval yard area in 1995 and the brewery opened here 7 years ago. Itís very much a working brewery, with a makeshift bar and a few benches and tables. We visited on a Saturday as part of a tour of local breweries (for which you need a car, although we kept meeting up with the same people who, it turned out, were on a minibus tour along the same route). State law allows a maximum of 48oz per person to be drunk on the premises and you get a ticket showing how many youíve had. As I was driving, Chris was able to have my ticket and try all the beers - there were five on tap plus one bottle, all of them very good. (Visited 15 February 2014).

No frills, warehouse location on the old Charleston Naval base. May not look like much, but itís all about whatís on the inside. I canít recall ever having a COAST beer that I was disappointed by, and more often than not their offerings are truly exceptional. Given their relatively limited distro currently, this is often the only place to go for many of their offerings, and theirs nothing quite like getting it directly from the source served by the proprietor.

We thought weíd check out COAST after trying a few of their beers around South Carolina and were not disappointed. There is nothing quite like drinking in a brewery, surrounded by sacks of malt and barrels. They had perhaps 4 beers on tap and small selection of bottles including a new limited release. All beers were pretty nice really. Staff were friendly and more than happy to show you around. A great little spot.

Donít take the score I gave this as an indication of how the place really is. Me and a buddy decided that we would stop in without warning. There were a couple employees there who showed us the brewery and gave us a few samples. They were super nice and were happy that we randomly showed up. if you are in North Charlston it is a cool place to add to your list.

Cool little warehouse in the middle of a naval yard. Open aired and party like atmosphere. Very nice owners and awesome beers. Must visit while in Charleston.

Iím really not sure North Charleston has enough railroad tracks. Sheesh! This place reminds me a little bit of Wedge in Asheville, with people hanging out outside, families, laid back vibe, etc. Though itís definitely less artsy and more industrial park. Located in a warehouse. I was afraid the place would be swamped as theyíre only open a couple times a week, but that was not the case even though they were busy. Inside is some random tables and couches alongside pallets of grain and barrels full of delicious things. The offer bottles for sale and fill growlers of most things. The prices were about what youíd expect. The people working are exceptionally helpful and willing to chat. Overall its a very laid back vibe with excellent beer and good people. Awesome place.

Great folks here! Great beer as well. My score on selection is for their beer only.

Great small starter breweries, I love the smaller ones in industrial parks. We where helped by the owner and she sampled us one of each of what they had. I wish they had bottled th smoked rye pale ale cause it was so unique and delicious. Will definitely be returning!
