Stopped by here on a Saturday afternoon. I hate to be too harsh on one of South Dakota’s few brewpubs, but I was really underwhelmed. Waitress was not very friendly, the feel of the place wasn’t great, and the beer was pretty poor. Downtown Rapid City is actually quite interesting, so that is the one positive. Maybe I just had a bad experience, so I’ll probably give them another shot next time I’m passing through the area.

The place seemed a little too busy for its britches on the busy times and slow as hell the other 20 hours of the day, but the food was good! The beer was pretty good but not my favorite but not bad at all! My man Lorn took great care of two out of town motorcyclist, even better service then the manager could muster must mention his name for that! all and all FBC is worth the time to visit! The snitzel is HUGE! and the fish and chips hit the spot! The stout was very good too.

Incredible building, but that’s where the joy ends. Five beers on tap, one was actually nice and the rest varied from mediocre to terrible. I had the buffalo burger, which was overcooked and dry. Seems like they just aren’t interested in the beer or the food.

I was underwhelmed. The place is fairly cool in itself, but service was so-so, the beer selection poor (and the ones they had weren’t very good). The food (I had the gumbo) was alright but still nothing special.

Stopped in with some friends when passing through to catch some wings and local brews. Definitely was not disappointed. I found good brews that came readily, decent wings (but I am a wing snob). Really liked the atmosphere here as well as the selection.

So first of all, I really liked this place as a place, but it doesn’t rate well as a beer place. Part 1: Cool renovation of an old building in downtown Rapid City is well done. The inside is family friendly and the ambiance is great. Friendly service (our server was great) and nice staff throughout. Busy on a Saturday night. The BBQ wings our server suggested were awesome and I had the spicy gumbo called ’spontaneous heating’ that was very good. My wife enjoyed her meal too; things are good. Part 2: there were only 4 house beers available, but at least they had the sampler as an option. A bummer to only have 4 on when there are 20 listed on the site... As good as our server was, he really didn’t have much info/to say regarding the beer. He did thrown in a free sample of the house root beer and it was quite good. Probably the best part of the sampler, now that I think about it. The Smoke Jumper Stout was decent, but the others were lacking. Overall a cool place to go, I’d definitely visit here again, but I’ll order the root beer instead.

This place looks pretty decent from the outside, but that is about as good as it gets - inside is decorated like a cheap bbq joint - laminate tables, a bit of dusty kitsch - even the bar is made of some kind of plastic or laminate kind of substance - weird - most of the waitstaff were comely young ladies in tight t-shirts, giving the place a vaguely Hooters-ish feel - four beers on tap when I was there (although they was tap space for six) - four! - and they weren’t very good - if you are a brewpub that only serves four beers, then they had better be effing brilliant - servers were attentive but somewhat apathetic - didn’t eat, so I can’t comment on that (menu look liked standard American fare) - place was packed at 5pm on a weeknight - like a really crappy version of the Pumphouse in Longmont, CO - if this place had any competition, I wager that it would go out of business (at least, if it weren’t in a tourist town, anyway).

The beer is always lousy with a lousy selection. The ESB tastes like a roasty brown ale. The waiter insisted it was a good representation. The brown ale tasted like vodka mixed with espresso. Very fusely rubbing eTOH taste. The waiter admitted he would not drink it. The pale ale was drinkable although thin and overcarbed. The food is usually pretty good. But Firehouse just does not understand that their beers are lousy. For a better time and better beer go around the corner to the South and visit Sanfords grub and pub.

Rapid City, huh? Kind of an interesting place overall. This place was in an old firehouse and has a very attractive front complete with brick and red trimmed windows. Very good service and knowledgable waitstaff who actually have a favorite beer. Waitstaff who don’t know about their workplace’s BEER at a BREWPUB should be fired immediately. True. Good Philly Steak Sangwich, au jus not heavily salted, potato pasta salad was very good twist. Beer was overall solid. Porter very sweet and good, sample of their stout was mild but also solid. Watched ’The Last Boyscout’ on TV by bar. Refreshing to not see sports everywhere...mix it up. Nice fire hat with logo free upon departure...thanks FBC.

Stopped here during a cross-country road trip. Solid place, although the beer is not very exciting. Their brews sort of pander to the ignorant masses, but oh well, it is Rapid City. I wish they had more than four on tap when I was there - that was a little weak. The brown cow ale and stout were solid. They also served a pale lager that was very bland and macro-like. Food is pretty good. I had a cheese-covered buffalo steak. It just doesn’t get much better than buffalo and beer. Prices are reasonable.
