70 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 13/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | May 27, 2012 As you can deduce from the title wine is the main thing here and takes up the majority of the floor space. They have 12-14 coolers full of six packs and an aisle of local, national, and international craft. I didn’t get the musty smell that Magsinva got but I did notice a few of the bottles were past their sell-by date which often happens at mom and pop shops like this. I did like the food truck sitting in the parking lot. That’s a neat touch. But the biggest concern I have is the pricing. Though they had. A few bottles I hadn’t seen before the prices were high even compared to DC. It’s a very good bottle shop and the staff seemed friendly but I don’t think it’s the best in the state. | 70 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 magsinva (125) Virginia | May 26, 2012 Very crowded wine store with a corner for beer. Not very well organized, though if you can find them, they do have some stuff I haven’t seen elsewhere. Stock rotation isn’t that great because some bottles are dusty and they still have Winter seasonals at the end of May! There was also a musty smell to the store that was offputting. They have some cheese and candy from around the world which is cool, though I’d check the sale by dates before buying. Location is in the middle of a neighborhood, hard for out of towners to find without a GPS. | 86 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Travlr (999) Washington, Washington DC | April 7, 2012 Extensive beer selection with a good mix of local, regional and international stuff. Large selection of ciders, including some local stuff, which was a plus. Satff was friendly and helpful, and had good recommendations. Definitely worth a stop. | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 nevets4433 (31) Alabama | September 28, 2011 Great staff and a great selection. Everyone is very friendly and I’m glad to have found this tiny little piece of Richmond! | 78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 15/20 tia (67) Sandston, Virginia | September 21, 2011 Will definitely go back. Good selection. Prices are average to a little high. Staff was friendly but I didn’t actually need help from them on this trip, so, I’m not sure about knowledge. One patron was a little put off that she’d been told they’d have something in that day and they didn’t. | 76 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Westmeister (53) Atlanta, Georgia | August 16, 2011 Beer selection wasn’t huge, but based on what I can’t get in Georgia, it had all the stuff I was looking for. It even had some WWS and 120 which I couldn’t believe. Other grabs like Firestone Walker Double Jack and Third Coast Old Ale made the trip well worth it. I don’t think the guy at the counter knew too much about beer, but thats ok bc I knew what I was looking at. If you are an out of towner then stop in and they are gauranteed to have the goodies you want. However, I thought that the prices were generally $1-$2 more expensive for bombers that I buy in GA. | 90 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 18/20 rollingwood (10) Maryland | February 6, 2011 In town to look at VCU with my wife and daughter (potential college) and scheduled a planned visit to the store. With Well’s Discount Liquors and The Perfect Pour around Baltimore as two of our regular haunts, our standards are somewhat high (as fellow Marylanders will appreciate). Once Upon a Vine did not disappoint. They stock Founders and Bells (both of which have yet to make it to Maryland, our home state), not to mention Firestone’s Burton-Cask fermented ales (which we purchased at the suggestion of the guy at the register; great guy to chat beer with too, and he gave us spot-on advice on the Firestone IPA and Double IPA; thank you, dude, if you read this!). I don’t know whether our daughter will choose VCU, but if I’m ever in Richmond again, I’ll make time to visit.
Easy access off of 95, nice neighborhood; well thought-out selection of beers (lots of wine too, but I’m not a wine-drinker). Knowledgeable and friendly help. And we saved about 10% by not paying Maryland’s needlessly high alcohol taxes. Excellent shop! | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 rhoneranger (11) Virginia | January 30, 2011 Great selection and helpful, knowledgeable folks | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 beermeow (7) Virginia | January 29, 2011 great job guys...keep..i love what you do | 86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 dengleberry (12) Richmond, Virginia | January 28, 2011 My favorite place to buy beer...and it just happens to be closest to my house. great staff, selection, and prices. i love to support locally owned businesses.
