| seanosean (10), Salt Lake City, Utah | | August 4, 2009 It’s Utah, so the prices are just silly as they have to buy from the State DABC at th same cost as Joe Public (no wholesale alc in Utah!), then they markup even higher ustto survive. Not there fault really, it’s jut Utah.
The beer selection is second to none and the staff seems to know right off which few they are out of stock. Rare beer s galore! The food is good, but pricey for a pub. It was much too hip of a place before Utah got rid of the membership/private club law, now it seems to have mellowed a little, dropping some of the yuppies.
The jazz combos in the corner are always a nice touch and not so loud they overwhelm. IIt’s a great place to go and try a beer you’ve never heard of before, and often the only place (outside searching the liqour stores) you’re going to find the more obscure brews. | | yemenmocha (61), Glendale, Arizona | | May 4, 2009 This social club has the only decent bottled beer selection in town, and the menu is incorrect most of the time. I can’t tell you how many times I picked 2-3 beers in a row and ALL of them were not in stock.
Service is atrocious. More effort is put into hiring young females than competent servers. Atmosphere is contemporary beer bar in nature with decor, but it’s hard to overcome the shortcomings in service and selection. They’re only in business because there is no real competition for the craft beer consumer who wants normal ABV beers in SLC. | viet959 (5), , Georgia does not count - explanation | | March 6, 2009 Had to pay a "membership" fee like all Utah bars. The parking sux. The place is nice, reminds me of a loft w/ exposed brick walls. Went there on a week day and it was still very busy. Nice beer selection w/ very resonable. Would definitely recommend this place to other people. Staff was pretty knowledgeable on beers. | | Wasatch (14), Layton, Utah | | October 26, 2008 This place rocks, but the prices on the brews are out rageous. I had the Hoppin John for lunch, very tasty with some fries and sweet potatoe fries. Next came the brews, ordered the 750ml of Unibroue Terrible the price was not bad, but alot more than I can get a bottle for. Next came a bottle of Samichlaus, price was better, but still on the pricey side. They do have a bunch of awesome brews though. Since I have a bunch of these at home, the pickings were a little slim, but mangaged to pick a couple out for this time around. Overall this place brings a nice reality to UT, but I wish the price’s would come down.
| Losati (5), Salt Lake City, Utah does not count - explanation | | July 10, 2008 The best beer bar in SLC. The selection is immense. The only problem with it is that the menu isn’t always updated with what is currently in stock. And some of the more ’exotic’ brews (ha! beer itself is exotic in this state) are often not available. The place can get real loud, which sucks for me and my bad hearing. The service is okay, though the waitresses are not really beer people. My only problem with this place is the food. I know people like it, but not me. My parents live in Louisiana, so I have an idea of what Cajun food is (sorry to sound arrogant) and this isn’t it. I’ve only tried a couple of things, both of which disappointed me, so I may be off on this, but I don’t think so. (Note: Everyone I go with to this place love the sweet potato fries. I don’t like sweet potatoes, so the fries don’t appeal to me. But you may love them.) | | Ibrew2or3 (161), Safety Harbor, Florida | | July 8, 2008 Could be a crowded place depending on the time of visit. Seating is first come first serve, which can suck. What doesn’t suck is the awesome food and the large diverse beer selection. I had the Jambalaya with crawfish and it was d-lish. I also took in a few local brews on tap from Red Rock, Uinta and Roosters. douglas88 enjoyed a 2004 vintage Cantillon Iris. The place has the goods alright. During my 10pm to 12am visit they had very nice live music too. If I ever move to SLC I’d need to be close enough to be a regular at this place. | | JasonG (33), Salt Lake City, Utah | | April 23, 2008 A bar and restaurant - was totally packed on the night I was there, but I was able to get a table on their small outdoor patio right away. You basically have to pay a $5 charge to join their club or something to be able to buy good beer. They have a pretty good selection of both drafts and bottles, including some pretty high alcohol stuff (barleywines, etc.). Service was not all that knowledgeble, but they went to find out answers that didn’t know. The food was fairly standard bar food. I had the burger, and it was mediocre at best. Still, in a city that I thought of as a beer desert, this is a pretty good place. | | footbalm (54), Salt Lake City, Utah | | November 24, 2007 Hey, was I surprised by this place?? No fucking shit. Beautiful women everywhere and a beer list that was very nice. Had a Piraat as the Karmaliet was gone. Have a live bands but this is a great beer bar for Utah. | | JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | September 17, 2007 Cool looking place, pool table at the back, long bar. I’m not a fan of these private club rules in Utah, but this place is worth paying what is essentially a five dollar cover. About 30 taps with a large selection of Utah microbrews. I didn’t eat but other people seemed to be enjoying what they had. Friendly staff. The premiere beer spot in the city, by far. | | douglas88 (51), Salt Lake City, Utah | | August 25, 2007 [ Updated July 26, 2008 ] A jazz band is often playing, and the place is always packed. Forget about all that: there are over 200 types of beers here, and many really great ones. No trip tp SLC would be complete without. Some beers often available include many locals, Rochefort, Cantillion, Chimay, Full Sail, Big Sky, Fullers, and many more. The selection comes and goes, but is always excellent. Also check the ’off-the menu’ menu. |
