| Elwood (83), Leesburg, Virginia | | February 25, 2010 Came in this place on a whim while down in C-ville and was pleasantly surprised. The decor was nice, the people were friendly, the prices were decent and the selection of beers wasn’t bad. You can certainly do worse but there is a fair bit of competition in this town. | ewest9 (1), Charlottesville, Virginia does not count - explanation | | June 27, 2009 This place is a restaurant that has great beer. 14 taps. 9 rotating. 2 are dedicated to Belgian or Belgian-style/whoppers that are best served in a 10 oz snifter. Most draft beers are served in a 20 oz glass. 10 oz or ’princess’ pints are available. Food is delicious and menu is very dynamic changing with the seasons. I here the chef gets tired of cooking the same stuff, so it looks different from one month to the next. | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | February 10, 2009 [ Updated May 3, 2012 ] This is a brand new place in Charlottesville. Located near the University, Parking is a piece of cake after 5:30 pm as there is a large lot used by the University that is empty by then. There are two or three large rooms as well as a bar that is handicapped accessible!!! How odd! Smoking is allowed after 10PM. Nice looking food menu, but the thai chicken curry I got and the hummus plate my friend got were just ok. Not great. Not bad. There are 10 taps with a selection of American micros. 40 or so bottles with lots of American micros and some Belgians. The highlight was imperial pints for the draft beers... $4 for all selections except $5 for the Old Rasputin. I didn’t get a chance to ask if these were introductory prices or not. Hopefully not. Service was pleasant. I saw other patrons getting samples. Very nice place, and hopefully with time the draft list will get even better.
Went here last night at the experience was so bad we had to leave. This was a TAP house, right? They had Brewdog Epic on, which kicked before they could pour one pint. They had Spaten Lager, but the server couldn’t tell me WHICH Spaten Lager it was. And they had Guinness and Rolling Rock. Their went from a normally sizeable bottle selection to... zero bottles. They did add two beers as we were leaving... Yuengling and Budweiser. Lame. Someone in my party said they’ve encountered other shortages of basic things, like cheese and coffee. The management here clearly has some major deficiencies. Score has been updated accordingly.
And they went out of business not too long after my last update (Fall 2010). Aw, shucks, who would have thought? |
