Nice atmosphere though it can get really crowded at times. It doesn’t open until 4 or 5, which sucks when a bunch of us get off of work at 3:30 and want a pint or two. On site brews range from bland and boring to excellent. I’ve only had the tostada, but it was excellent. Sampler for $6. Parking gets crowded, but there is a pay lot directly across the street that is 50 cents an hour or free after 6PM.

Last stop on the www.jrhb.org 2008 Brews Cruise. I had their Satay with Tuna and it was delicious. Service was really slow, but it was a Saturday night so that’s to be expected. The headbrewer was awesome and gave a great tour. I actually learned a lot and he gave us HUGE samples of all his beers. Satan’s Pony was my favorite beer they had on tap.

Friendly environment with a nice view of the brewery from behind the bar. Moderately well lit and fairly quiet before the evening crowd rolled in. Excellent food, appetizers are tasty and reasonably priced. The taco salad was filled with juicy steak. Staff was friendly and relatively knowlegable about the beer. Overall, a very nice place with an excellent sampler.

a popular place in charlottesville that has special on tuesday night which makes it a very crowded place that day. it has a wide selection of its own beers and the food is typical bar food: salty and fatty but goes well with beer.

I like this place. I’ve dropped in three times when passing through Charlottesville and had a good time on each occasion. It is in a downtown location in a nice old building. There are booths to sit at if you prefer that but I’ve always hung out at the bar and quickly been pulled into conversation with friendly locals. Twice I ended up not doing the more thorough survey of Charlottesville I had intended because of the convivial company in here. On one occasion service was a little slow because there was only one person serving who, as it is a very long bar, didn’t always spot customers that needed a refiil if they were some distance away. Decent enough brewpub food. Six or seven of their own beers on tap, often with one on cask, and a guest or two. There are printed sheets telling you something about the beers. Beer quality is solid, if unspectacular. Sometimes has low key live music but I’m not sure of the schedule.

This is an old warehouse near the Downtown Mall district of Charlottesville. The interior keeps the old warehouse feel which translates well in some areas but the coziness of the general atmosphere takes a hit. Pluses include a fireplace with nice comforatable couches in the seating area away from the bar. Negatives include a bar area that seems to lack access areas and a place to move away from the bar seating to a more intimate area without having to wait for an open table on which to rest your beer. The winter/ fall seasonal ales are the beers that really shine through at this establishement, while the summer beer choices seem to be too light and without a stronger darker beer choice to level out selection. Still a decent brewpub that blows away its down the street competition.

Nice art in the warehouse-like restaurant, the service was solid from the waitstaff, but the kitchen didn’t do so well. And the food really wasn’t that good. Meanwhile, the beer is decidedly mediocre.

May 2006: Decent locale on the town square. Good food, especially the salad ... and a nice list of brews that overall were delicious.

Great selection of microbrews. The Satan’s Pony is always a solid choice. Can’t really go wrong with any of the beers.

Nice atmosphere. Service can be either good or bad, usually not inbetween. Burgers are great, the pizza is not. PLEASE stay away from it... I’m not sure how they can call it pizza anyway. Beer selection is good, and all of their own brews (once when I was there they had a guest tap), and their brews are usually pretty tasty.
