| ekiel (10), , | | February 5, 2012 The pizza is awesome!!! The beer menu is good but needs more of a rotation. | | smegworm (10), Alabama | | February 4, 2012 Lacking in beer, decent atmosphere | | jeremytoni (105), Swedesboro, New Jersey | | November 4, 2011 Decent place with a good selection. | | GypsyHead (15), California | | October 1, 2011 Cool little place with a decent beer selection and great atmosphere and decor. They’ve got a few too many mass market beers, but also some unexpected gems | | jcweaver (11), VA Beach, Virginia | | September 25, 2011 Usually has some good brews on tap. GREAT pizza and friendly staff. Atmosphere is great. My only complaint is that the beer never seems very cold. Not the selection of The Birch, but much preferred due to the great food and FRIENDLY staff. | | gsmitty80 (146), Washington DC | | May 11, 2011 This was a cool pizza place with about 30 taps. 2 of the beers i did order were out but they still had a couple i didnt have. They carried all of the O’Connor beers, which was nice. The blond behind the bar was nice and attentive. I will certainly go back and try the pizza some other time. | drewciferous (2), , does not count - explanation | | January 18, 2011 This place is a classic. Formerly a hole-in-the-wall music club, it got shined up around 7 years ago, but retains the cool vibe. 33 drafts, something for everyone. Niche beers, watery beers, solid micro-brews.
When the pizza is on, it’s among the best I’ve ever had. Likewise, the service. It’s not always on.
Notable current drafts: Ommegang Abbey Dubbel ($5 12oz.), Aventinus ($4 on happy hour for 16oz.) Bell’s Two-Hearted Ale ($4 for 16oz.) BBC Bourbon Barrel Stout ($4.5 for 16oz.) and Lagunitas Brown Shugga ($5.5 for 16oz.) | | Travlr (508), Washington, Washington DC | | January 15, 2010 First time I’ve been back to Cogan’s since moving from Ghent to D.C. a couple of years ago. The biggest change - it’s non-smoking!!! Who would have guessed that the Tobacco State would take the plunge?!!?!?!!! Nothing else has changed - the pizza is still pretty good, very creative with a decent crust. The exact same people hang out there. It’s slightly grungier, but in a lived-in sort of way. 33 taps, but with lots of things like Bud Light taking up unnecessary space. Worth stopping in for the people and the pizza, beer is so-so. | | Immy (102), Virginia Beach, Virginia | | May 29, 2009 Wow, this turned out to be a cool place! Stopped in for lunch, a very locals type crowd. Solid pizza, and the lunch buffet was $8 - AYCE pizza, penne and soup, plus a salad. Beer list is damn good for Tidewater, a few things on tap I hadn’t seen in the area elsewhere. Server was pretty good, but a beer novice. I might start here before going to the Taphouse in the future! | | ksurkin (12), Norfolk, Virginia | | March 8, 2009 only been here a few times for beers, mostly due to the fact that it’s swimming in cigarette smoke which really detracts from the quality beers they have on tap. one of the only places in norfolk that gets hopslam on tap and i was lucky enough to grab a couple pints. they also have two hearted, DFH 90, and a few other good ones. pizza is a bit on the greasy side, which is okay for some, but i prefer it a little less drippy. i recommend sitting on the patio to avoid the smoke or going during the day. service at the bar was quality, but sit at a table at your own risk,. |
