9 reviews for Pike St. Beer and Wine
| CheersMate1 (42), Atlanta, Georgia | | December 23, 2009 Pretty cool place. Not very big, but had an amazing selection Consecration, Temptation, Firestone Walker 13th Anniversary all there. Plenty of Midnight Sun. Some hot rocking Asian chick was working there, which was a bonus for a young 25 year-old like myself. Not in the middle of Pike’s Place as a few people have mentioned. Up Pike St. but not close to the actual market. Didn’t mind the walk at all. Anyways, not a very big place, but for someone from Georgia they had plenty to satisfy my need. | | carruthm (26), Seattle, Washington | | December 11, 2009 Bottleworks-central I refer to it. Really good selection and with a slightly higher markup indicative of the rent location. Still, much easier to get to. | | Feinschmecker (52), Seattle, Washington | | October 1, 2009 In the heart of Pike Place Market... I usually stop by for a pint. They rarely have any seasonal beer on draft though that are exciting and new. They are usually very busy and the service suffers as a result. The prices for the food are a little high, considering the food is not that great, but it all about the location. | | ¾ (649), Boulder, Colorado | | May 18, 2009 Immaculately organized and clean structure to the store. Lots of empty space, and what looks like delicately aligned rows of bottles, unfortunately sitting at near room temperature and exposed too much to ambient light. Some coolers hold a few singles/bombers and some six packs, but bottles such as Jolly Pumpkin were sitting out in the warm air and light. Prices were high, comparable with Bottleworks. Selection was more thorough than Bottleworks, and of course Pike doesn’t have those annoying 5000% markup aged bottles that Bottleworks attempts to sell. I guess it’s worth visiting, although I didn’t come away with anything since I’ve pretty much tapped anything of interest in or from the PNW over the last few years. | | Zeswaft (102), Seattle, Washington | | March 30, 2009 Totally impressed. This place is spectacular. Except for the few rarities that Bottleworks gets, this place blows it out of the water. Probably about the same in price which is a little higher than bottle shops I’m used to but the selection is overwhelming. Way larger and of equal if not better quality. Really clean and well organized by region. I remember walking through and thinking, "i bet this guy just got the catalog from his distributor and said give me everything." I’d say at least 600 different beers. My only complaint was that the window shades were pulled all the way up on a rare sunny seattle day. All the German swill and others were just baking in the sun. | | mgermani (15), Vancouver, British Columbia | | February 23, 2009 Fantastic selection of beer - truly overwhelming for a Canadian visiting the US for the first time. Very well-lit (arguably too well-lit, but I found it handy). with a friendly atmosphere. The gentleman behind the counter was very helpful, and commented on all the porters I picked up while browsing. Very, very friendly staff. I can’t wait to come back here. | | after4ever (130), Brier, Washington | | February 5, 2009 I wish they’d take all that stuff that’s on wire shelves and put it in dark coolers, but that’d jack their prices way up. Having it all on shelves does make it easy to get to (and they do have a dozen coolers, so it’s not all getting battered by heat and light). They organize by country, they have a few dozen wines, and they have some t-shirts and glasses. I mean, they really focus on the beer. Good-sized place that has a ton of inventory despite a modest-looking exterior. Their lineup is as complete as anyone in town, maybe moreso. Definitely be back. | rorygilmore (1), Seattle, Washington does not count - explanation | | April 14, 2008 Great little no frills beer store. Very Clean and organized. Better Belgian selection than Bottleworks and Big Star. Also a very nice Eastern European and German selection. The domestic craft selection is significantly better than most area grocery stores, but nothing to write home about. They have some wine, but about 80% of the store is beer. Located in Capitol Hill which makes it perfect for me. Also, they do free tastings on Fridays from 5-7. I recently tried 6 of the St Bernardus brews at the last tasting... nice! | | Oakes (422), Beyond the Great Firewall, China | | October 21, 2007 New store, just opened up a week or two ago so they’re still in the process of building their inventory. Even right now, though, it’s a good 300 brews. The owner said 800 but that didn’t seem realistic. Anyway, they have a fairly strong range of Eastern European product. Right now they’re a little thin on the US stuff relative to Bottleworks. The Belgians and Germans were comparable to Bottleworks. One of the better stores in town, and the selection should continue to increase over the coming months. One thing I worry about is the lighting - there’s just too much and with the big windows some of those brews are going to take direct sunlight. |
