We arrived late afternoon in Spokane Washington as they where also suffering from a sudden explosion of the sun and the heat index was way over 100 degrees. So what was in order? Yep you guessed correct cold beer was needed and Northern Lights Brewing was the next stop. Tucked in the heart of Spokane Northern Lights was a perfect stop. I was greeted with a sample tray of 10 different beer and all very good. The light pale ales where wonderful the Huckleberry crème was very tasty and fruity with the dark stout full of life and hit the spot. I had dinner here and the food was very tasty and pub faire which is what I love. They did have a spendy section but I stayed with a burger and that was perfect. This place from what I can see can get packed so get there early and if you have time hit the distillery next door. Dry Fly distilling the first Micro Distiller in Washington state. They have some wonderful products and samples to go around Vodka, Gin and even some special Whiskey. This is a great little place in itself and just adds to the whole Spokane experience. So get some beer take a tour of the distillery and brewery and have a great time. This was also connected to about 2-3 different restaurants all with different flair so you can find some great food for what ever your taste. So at the end of a great day hit the brewery and have a great time good food and an awesome pub atmosphere. Oh I all most forgot to mention it is ok to bring the kids.

I drove by and around this place for 15 minutes. Sensing a brewery all I could see for signage was for a Thai restaurant. However after much harrmphing we could see that there was a sign next to the Thai restaurant that indeed read Northern Lights Brewery. Happy Freakin Day! GET A BIGGER SIGN! Please! We had to cross the river on Trent to realize there was indeed something besides a thai restaurant going in this wierd stripmall/brickbuilding/riverwalk thing. Once we got in the person who waited on us was extremely helpful and personable. She was not the most knowledable beer person but that is not an issue for me. Oddly enough for all the beer places I have visited this is more the norm that not. I do not begrudge a wait oerson if they are not well versed in every beer style ever made. I was offered samples for any beer I mentioned and I was made to feel welcome. I would definitely return. If I lived in Spokane I would be a regular.

Old area in Spokane. Says Northern Lights on the end of a warehouse that looks deserted. In front the parking lot is full and the pub is inside with a couple of offices and a Tai restaurant. Food was OK.

Best tip I can offer is : if you’re going to argue with your coworkers about how bad their service is, don’t do it in front of the customers. Also, if you tell people they can’t have dogs outside, make sure there aren’t already 3 people outside with theirs, that’s kind of a giveaway that the person you were talking to is too retarded to know their own policies. On top of all that, I couldn’t even find someone who could tell me the style or base style of 3 of the beers on top. I love Thai food and sitting outdoors enjoying a beer with my dog, but the staff was inept and the argument about who had the worst service convinced us not to have anything to eat there. You guys cost yourself a customer.

May 2007 - This was a bit tricky to find, in an out-of-the-way converted warehouse, colocated with a Thai restaurant. Ate dinner at the bar. The food was average to good (wife’s prime rib was swimming in sauce, but good ... my burger was good). Service came with a bit of a "I don’t care" attitude, but in the end was good enough, too. Most importantly, the beers were tasty!

I stopped in on the recomendation of a local. My friends and I decided to be seated outside, which was nice since it was in the seventies. The brewpub is right next to the river so there was a nice breeze, and there was some contemperary music playing. I have to say that the srvice was not all that great. The waiter did not check very often to see if we needed anything, and was not vey knowledgeable about the beers that were available. I couldn’t understand being a bit slow if it was busy, but we were there pretty early in the evening, and only five ofr six tables throughout the rest of the resturant. I thought the overall value was good, and the food was definitely better than your average bar fair. I had the choclate dunkel, which was decent, but not something I would get on a return visit, and the IPA which I thought was above average.

As wulfhere already described, in a warehouse coupled along with another lounge and a Thai restaurant. The brewpub seems like a cornered off piece of the building, not that official, but there’s plenty of seating and a big bar. Average selection with the usuals plus a seasonal. Friendly service. We came during a slow part of the day and didn’t eat anything, so not a great coverage of this place. I like how easy it is to get back to the Interstate from here.

Brewpub in a converted warehouse. Several beers on tap (Creme Ale, Pale Ale, Blueberry Creme Ale, Crystal Bitter, Chocolate Dunkel(le) and a seasonal Winter Ale, and 12 Anniversary Imperial Stout). I was there at lunch, so the place was quiet, the staff was a couple of friendly girls, and there were monster truck races on the TV, The facility is light and airy, with a very high ceiling, 4-5 booths, 8-10 tables and about a dozen bar stools at the bar. The fare seemed to be somewhat upscale pubfood--bugers, pastas, salads, steaks and the like. I had the Garlic Burger, which was very tasty--sauted onions and garlic on a cheeseburger. The beer (12 Anniversary Imperial Stout) wasn’t anything to write home about--a bit thin, not very high octane, but decent enough for your standard brewpub.
