RateBeer Brew Tour Guide's Comments
This is most definitely NOT in the Twin Cities, but it is just across the border and is worth noting for several reasons. They do usually have a couple of Dogfish Head and Three Floyds available, neither of which are in Minnesota. Also available are some stand out small Wisconsin breweries that are not widely distributed. It is in that note that the primary draw exists: New Glarus. They typically have around six different varieties plus Belgian Red and Raspberry Tart. I would highly recommend calling ahead to make sure they have the New Glarus you are looking for before driving all the way there.

tennisjoel | Finally, I get to Chicones. I spent my college years in River Falls, which is about 10 miles south of Hudson. I had seen this place, but those were the days I wasn’t seeking out quality beers. Nice to find pretty much the full lineup of DFH, New Glarus, some Bear Republic, a few Founders, and Lagunitas that I can’t currently get in MN. Got the 120 Minute, Raisin D Extra, WWS, and Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale, all which I haven’t tried yet, as well as my favorite 90 minute IIPA, and some Oscar Blues Gordon. Nice store, selection is good. I didn’t have any problems with service, but I didn’t need to ask them anything.

Syd | This is my Wisconsin, can’t get in Minnesota go to place. The selection is great in that respect. I was there today after a few years and they seem to be well stocked on the New Glarus offerings. Also, I noticed some Founders which was cool. A bunch of Sconnie craft brewers are there. It is worth a drive every so often. I picked up the latest Unplugged, Imperial Weisen. They also have some Dogfish. The service is pretty non-existent, has been for years. Oh well, don’t expect much of that.

LawStudent09 | This is a must as well when crossing the border to go to Casanovas. The big difference here is the service is not quite as good/enthusiastic and they have Viking and Sand Creek products in singles as well as Bear Republic and some Dogfish Head and New Glarus.

WallyWalrus | Nothing much to say in the area of atmosphere or service, but another fine resource for microbrews otherwise unavailable to folks from the Twin Cities. Along with obvious inclusions like New Glarus, they offered an interesting selection of other oddities (Capital and Viking singles come first to mind) that it was enough to merit the two minute journey from Casanova. That said, I’d still be going to Casanova first.
FYI: I didn’t see any Dogfish Head or Three Floyds at my last visit.

OSLO | As has been stated a few times, this is a pretty good place for those of us in Minnesota to get New Glarus and Dogfish Head products. They also had a few Lagunitas, Bear Republic, Oskar Blues and Three Floyds. Their singles selection is really lacking, and their customer service is pretty average. The foreign beer selection here is also not good.

BDR | I won’t belabor the selection, which is pretty good (New Glarus and DFH) although there prices were higher than competitors. They do however, tend to carry more SKUs. When service is good, it’s well above average but when it’s poor, damn is it bad. Sadly, my experiences with rude and aggressive employees outnumbers the good ones by 3 to 1.

tytoanderso | This one is little difficult to rate. If it were my everyday liquor store, It would be average at best. But because of the amazing beers that they carry that we can’t get in Minnesota it has to be rated a little differently. Other than the the cashiers, I’ve never dealt with any other staff in the store, so it’s tough to rate the service, although I’ve never had a bad experience. Selection is pretty good: I was there the day before Memorial Day and picked up some New Glarus, Tyranena, Dogfish, Lagunitas, 3F. Average, but if you appreciate Craft Beer and live in Minneapolis, than the drive is WELL worth it. Highly recommend calling before you visit to make sure what you want is in stock.

| lweiberg | The place to go for Dogfish Head ($10.99 for four-pack), Three Floyd’s Alpha King ($7.99 for six-pack), New Glarus ($6.99 for a six-pack) ... really worth the drive from any part of the metro area if you’re into this stuff. The cashier put the above-mentioned purchases in an empty box. Definitely a place to go and stock up, and it is always relaxing visiting Birkmose Park, which overlooks the St. Croix.
edit: recently got there at 8:54 and they wouldn’t let me in. :P

footbalm | Been here a dozen imes.maybe more and the selection is okay. It can be good when they have Founders,Smuttynose and some 90 Minute IPA on the shelves but at tomes they do not have shit. My place for New Glarus tho’. The staff are usually watching sports on the tube.
