| NobleSquirrel (33), Chicago, Illinois | | October 5, 2008 Finally made it to Milwaukee and this dumpy looking place. Had a very interesting selection, from a back log of Unplugged beers to ’06 BCS, this place was a big cache of beers. Had Weyerbacher as well, which we can’t get in Illinois at this time. Amazing that some of the most shady looking stores can be a haven. Very nice. | fiver29 (9), Strongsville, Ohio does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2008 I shopped here yesterday morning. This place had everything I was looking for and then some. New Glarus (both belgian red and raspberry tart were in stock), Tyranena, Dark Horse, Dogfish head (including some vintage world wide stout and 120 minute IPA), Central Waters, Goose Island (had fresh and vintage Matilda, Imperial IPA, and Bourbon County Stout). They had a slew of imports from Mikeller, Cantillon, Struisse, and Olfabrikken. I asked for some help and the staff was very friendly and went out of their way to help me get a a beer I was looking for. Not the nicest looking place, but it sure does have everything you’ll be looking for. | scoobysnak (9), Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | July 11, 2008 Holy S@#%. This place was awesome. Probably the best selection of imports I have seen in WI. Service was also impressive. I couldn’t find any empty sixer containers to put my build your owns, I asked for help and the guy practically ran to go get me one. I was only able to look a little because I was in a hurry but WOW! Very impressive collection a must if your in Milwaukee. | | esjaygee (54), Oak Creek, Wisconsin | | July 3, 2008 I’ve been here numerous times over the years but I never really paid that much attention to the beer aisle until this visit. Usually I would buy a sixer or two and be on my way. The selection of Belgian and foreign beers here is excellent though I’m not sure how well they sell since many of them were covered in dust and had old dates on them. I picked up a few Unibroues I hadn’t seen before. Pretty good selection of domestic six packs too, though very little sold as singles. I guess I’m too darn hooked on build your own six packs that it seems to be my number one focal point of a liquor store so I didn’t even notice if the prices were “discount” as the name would indicate. Service was ok, asked if I needed help. | IPAaLLtHEwAY (4), La Crosse, Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | June 11, 2008 Looks pretty crappy on the outside. But man o man, I found a bunch of 94’ vintage SA triple bock there. And a 2004 dogfish head world wide stout. Very reasonably priced. Many many more amazing beers on top of that. Totally blew my mind. Morale of the story: Don’t judge a liquor store by its shitty outward appearance. | WisconsinSteve (1), Milwaukee, Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | May 11, 2008 My personal favorite place for beer shopping. It is not much to look at but that ok. The service is pretty good. They have helped me out a time or two. Best part is they know when to leave a person alone with their large selection. | | Syd (22), Twin Cities Metro, Minnesota | | May 1, 2008 Whenever I’m in Milwaukee (often), I stop here for a great selection of Wisconsin distributed beers that I can not get in the Twin Cities. Plus, its close to Serb Hall for Friday Fish Fry. | | jbuzz (12), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | April 29, 2008 For the longest time this was the place to go in the Milwaukee area. Thank god that has changed. I always found visiting Discount a pain in the backside. Parking is a headache the staff not so helpful. Unless you are looking at the big dollar liquors.
That being said…..Discount has a huge selection of almost everything.
| antzman (6), Clarksville, Indiana does not count - explanation | | February 5, 2008 It looks like someone converted an old grocery store into a liquor store, so it’s not much to look at, but like most good things in life, its what inside that counts. Really nice selection of midwest micros, decent selection of imports. I had good service when I caught up with a guy who worked there in the summer, and had a lot of passion for good beers. | | surlysober (24), Milwaukee, Wisconsin | | January 6, 2008 Discount Liquor definitely has the best selection in Milwaukee with a huge selection of obscure imports and lots of American crafts. I do have several complaints though: first, the turn isn’t always the best so there’s a lot of old beer on the shelves (but that’s probably a necessary evil of having such a large selection), second, there isn’t much broken out into singles, and third, most of the cooler space is devoted to macros, so most of the specialty beer is warm. But, despite these complaints I still frequent Discount because it’s such a great liquor store overall. Service gets a 9 solely due to Mary, who knows an ungodly amount about beer and the organization of their massive selection. | View Page : 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
