This bar has far more beers than your average bar, but its selection is unique in that it offers tremendously little that most people on this site would classify as interesting. There are a lot of wheat beers and a lot of imports, not a lot of more extreme or interesting American crafts. The neighborhood is still highly transitional, and not the hip & trendy kind of transitional (like Bayview). The neighborhood might be turning around though. Bartendress was quite friendly, and this place is quite inexpensive. We watched Jeopordy with one of the regulars, which was fun, but this bar is far from beer geek transcendence.

It’s not like Grady’s Saloon doesn’t belong on ratebeer, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to most ratebeerians. The reason is that although it has a somewhat extensive selection of beers, what’s there seems incredibly boring. There’s a heavy skew toward imports, particularly boring ones (about a third of the selection is euro-lager and another third is probably wheat beers). In addition, although the bartender was friendly, she didn’t seem particularly knowledgeable about, or interested in, beer. The same could be said for the clientele. In general, Grady’s is a corner bar in an OK (but not great) neighborhood that seems to have missed the boat (if its intention was to become a beer savvy bar). Its saving grace is that Grady’s is considerably less expensive than many of the other beer bars in Milwaukee (2 pints of Moose Drool for a total of $5).

7-2-09 Re-Rate: Sadly this place has lost what made it a good neighborhood beer bar with the new ownership. Gradys used to be owned by Tom Radaj (Grady). He built this bar into what it is today and the new owners have kept it for the most part. A good gathering place.
