No Longer In Business

People are nice. Food is decent. A few of their beers are worth giving a go and they do have some nice taps available.

I just found my notes on this fine lit establishment. Another brewpub I stopped at on my way out west to where I currently live. Obviously, my family and I shacked up in Cheyenne. This is a very well lit and clean establishment with fairly quick friendly service. The selection is their brews. The food is very good. My bacon cheeseburger was absolutely amazing! The value seemed pretty good for the Cheyenne area - I guess, but I was passing through, so didn’t take notice too much how it compared but did notice while driving through the nation this place seemed more reasonable than some others. Overall, this place almost made me not want to move to Alaska. As my son watched the trains go by and the gently rolling somewhat grey-ish clouds of the evening, I was on porch sipping their Hobo Hefeweizen, why did I get orders to Alaska again? Sigh, maybe some day I’ll be back. I sure hope I will.

Drove up from Ft. Collins with Aaron and Bobby. Huge location in what seems to be an old train station. The ambiance of the old building is kind of ruined by the tacky advertisements and promotions they have hung up all over the place. The food was below par, even for pub food. Beers were not good at all. Service was friendly but slow. Kind of funny, they had Bud Light and Coors Light ads all over the place, but after trying the beer, those are probably your best options. Would not come back here.

First time in Wyoming since I moved to California but that was almost 20 years ago and I wasn’t even of drinking age then. This is in a really nice building, the old train station. As we ate and drank the Union Pacific rolled by several times. There was also some kind of charity event going on outside in the square for guide dogs and there was a celebrity appearance (the mayor of Cheyenne). Out in front were a couple of cars parked with the Shadow Brewing logo on them underneath some Budweiser banners. Really? Pepsi and Anheuser seem to own this town. Inside is nice but the service was really slow, as I guess they were serving Bud Light to the regulars that were there to watch the NFL games. The beers were pretty bad over all and the food was just alright. The burgers were very greasy and heavy (easily a half pound of beef). They actually have quite a few burgers to pick from. Mine had bleu cheese crumbles and some Cajun seasoning on it. Not bad. The fries on the other hand were pretty dry. I scrolled past those. This is right off of I-80 so if I ever do a cross country road trip (again) I’ll probably stop in Cheyenne to check out the other brewery in town but I don’t think I’ll stop in this one again.

As far as being a stop for a beer enthusiast, this is kind of a wash. But there are not many options in Cheyenne, so you will probably end up here over the course of the evening. It’s in a old train station and the ambiance could have been great, but this is Wyoming so they turned it into a country-boy sports bar. The bartender was awesome, but there is no need to have any real beer knowledge here so I’m not sure about all that. I ended up drinking Odell Cutthroat porter because the house beers kind of scared me. They did not appear to be of any quality I wanted to drink. The rest of the taps are swill. It is insanely cheap to drink in Wyoming apparently, so the value is awesome. 20 oz. pours of Odell were $4.50 and Jim Beam was only $3. I ate some chicken wings which were really good, but it is just wings.

In my notes I wrote "If you hanging out here on a Saturday night, it Is because God has forsaken you." That might be a bit harsh but spending time here is bound to attack one’s soul. This place is my nomination for the worst brewpub in America. Nothing works here. Beautiful,old train station from the outside but it looks like they just stuffed a bunch of crap on the inside. They have 12-14 taps with half being BMC with 4-5 of their own. Their beer sucks, it’s just plain awful. They should be embarrassed charging money for this shit. Only go here for the place tick and the lights of Cheyenne.

A nice renovated train station from the outside. Inside, it was several individual rooms (restaurant, bar, shops, etc..). The bar area is nice and big w/plenty of seating. Only 2 house taps, the rest were a few local microbrewery beers and BMC. The beers were below average.

Visited on a Saturday night. The building was a renovated train depot, and it looked really cool in what seemed like a nice renovated district in Cheyenne. There was a nice bar area, and there were plenty of TVs to watch games or play trivia. The service was so-so, as the waiter seemed kind of out of it, but the place wasn’t crowded so we got our drinks and food in good time. The one problem was that apparently Cheyenne had their "Frontier Days" recently, and the only beer they had on tap was their Snake Wagon O.B. Luckily for us, that was a really tasty beer. The place was actually called the Snake River Pub and Grill, which was weird because all the merchandise was labeled Shadows Brewing Company as that was the actual brewery of the beer they served. Anyway, if I ever came to Cheyenne again, I’d definitely check out this place again. Especially if Frontier Days wasn’t right before my visit.

Only two bof their beers on draft. Bartender didn’t know much. Neat location but the beers and service leave a lot to be desired

4/11/06: Short review: this place sucks. Avoid it. Never associated with Snake River Brewing, this company changed its name to Shadows Brewing Co. When we visited, the server’s first answer to "what beers do you have" was "Bud, Bud Light ..." When pressed we discovered they only had 2 house beers available ... a piss-pour wheat beer and an infected amber ale. They had the balls to actually SELL this rancid piss as "Train Wreck" acknowledging that it was bad (but blaming it on a bad recipe instead of poor hygiene and ineptness). Food was average at best. What a waste of a potentially great location.
