72 /100 900 MAIN ST Visited this places several times when I stayed in Columbia between 96-98. Nice, rustic place with quite good beer as I remembered it. |
76 /100 6695 DOBBIN ROAD, STE G Stopped in here with family and friends, with a number of kids in tow. Big draft list, good variety of beers. Pizza was good - Detroit style, or close enough to it. Got salads and grilled cheeses. All was really good. |
72 /100 8980 MD-108, SUITE MNO Checked it out and bought some cans. Nice spacious place, lots of parking. Large style variety. We wished there was outdoor seating. Worth a stop. |
74 /100 Total Wine & More - Columbia, SC (Beer Store) 275-D HARBISON BLVD Free dedicated easy parking. Big selection. Almost everything is available as singles. Service at this location was great. Lots of local/regional and descent selection of national/international. I would go back. |
72 /100 520 GREENE ST Brewery in downtown Columbia near the stadium. 2 TVs. They had 12 taps. Focus on fruited sours - they had 5 of these. Kind of an odd crowd (old people screaming at a football game, but a lot of youths too). Interesting place and beer is good, kind of a weird vibe though. |
68 /100 900 MAIN ST Smallish brewpub in downtown Columbia. Small bar, downstairs and upstairs seating. No TVs. Seemed to cater to an older crowd. They had about 6-7 beers on, mostly lighter styles. Fairly basic. Had a hazy IPA but it was not very hoppy or citrusy. Definitely not a place for hoppy beers in general. Overall beers were average to below average. Food was good though. It’s a small but solid menu. I got one of the specials, quail. Which was prepared very well and quite tasty. Nonetheless I see now why quail is not very popular - it’s a teeny tiny bird. Anyway, not worth a stop on its own for beer. But not bad if you’re going to get food. |
74 /100 6655 DOBBIN RD There are actually two distinct businesses here. The Frisco tap room has a number of Reckless beers and others on tap and a full menu. Reckless brew pub has only reckless beers and a limited menu. They are connected by the bathrooms, but otherwise have separate entrances. In any case, the brewpub side is nice enough with game tables and a dozen taps. |
80 /100 8980 MD-108, SUITE MNO Came here straight from the airport during the start of the July 4th weekend. In an unassuming business park, in a brick building that probably use to be offices, only by swinging the door open could I tell that they were in business.
Long wood bar taking up most of the real estate in the center, brunch type tables scattered everywhere else. Lots on tap, plus a solid bottle list of just their stuff. Staff was friendly for it being just 10 minutes past noon. At least three groups were already in here, plus a loner off the clock. Super knowledgeable & encouraging insight into most every pour. Not a sales pitch, just the fluffy facts.
Coffee orange mild, a gin barrel something else, a couple sours in cliche & embarrassing lambic baskets. Most of this hovered from ehh to wow, with only really one expensive dud. Focus seems to be barrel stuff, with a solid IPA attempt or five. Good sours, good low abvs, only a couple widowmakers.
I only left because I was so damn hungry & the food truck was just getting set up. Really didn't want to leave, but you can't walk anywhere to carbed up. I think I went insane & did like half a dozen soft shells in town without breathing.
Ambiance is meh, but it wasn't crowded on a Sunday afternoon & the beer was tasty. I think they did flights, but I usually opt for a short pour. Prices were high for 25 minutes outside of town, $6-7 tulips, $20-35 bottle list, in house.
Really like the beer. They need food in a bad way. |
82 /100 9315 SNOWDEN RIVER PARKWAY Visit Date: 6/12/21 with jcos
Huge, high ceiling brewery with a decent sized bar and tons of well spaced seating. Not outdoor seating at this spot. No food, but they said they have food trucks sometimes. Very clean and brighter look compared to your standard industrial brewery. Good # of beers on tap of various style including a large # of hazy IPAs and fruited smoothie beers (because it's 2021), but they had enough other options as well. Can't remember the exact #, but lets say the draft lines were in the 15-20 range. Fridge full of plenty of cans and growler fills (I think) are the to-go options. Really nice spot. Enjoyed our visit a lot. |
74 /100 9570 BERGER RD Visit Date: 6/12/21 with jcos.
Nice looking brewery, with a fairly decent amount of seating inside and out. Shares a suite with a tasty BBQ place as well, so it's nice to be able to order food and beer to the same table without leaving the general brewery area. Beers I had were only okay. For take away they had some options for mix 4-packs, so that's nice for those who just want to try a few additional beers in individual cans rather than picking up 4/6-packs. Would definitely return if I were in the area, but it isn't a destination. (Just realized this is my 1st place rating entered in exactly 1 year) |
68 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Columbia (Restaurant) 1009 GERVAIS ST. Really busy with two bars. Decent beer choices decent pizza and nice desserts. |
68 /100 705 GERVAIS STREET Really good beer. We had a stout French onion soup that was great. Lots of beer styles all brewed onsite. Worth a stop. |
68 /100 Liberty Taproom and Grill - Columbia (Restaurant) 828 GERVAIS STREET Huge bar, great specials. A couple familiar house beers made by new south. Other decent rotating beers. Decent food. Nothing great but not a bad option. |
78 /100 Walrus Oyster & Ale House (Restaurant) 10300 LITTLE PATUXANT PARKWAY One of the best places for oysters in the area and almost as good as the best in the area in downtown Baltimore. Add to that 14 taps with at least 10 local selections and another 5 of the cans and bottles from the area. The oyster election is really first class...plus a really nice selection of seafood, meats, and appy's. Great night out of you love oysters but need good craftbeer with them. (Note there is a 2nd location at National Harbor). |
84 /100 8980 MD-108, SUITE MNO Ambiance: Larger than expected, but everything seems new and the atmosphere is nice. Typical brewery feel, lots of exposed wood and metal. Some of the nicer bathrooms I've seen in breweries, TBH.
Service: Good. It wasn't very crowded at 4 on a Saturday. The bar staff actually took turns walking the room to see if anyone needed anything, which seemed very deliberate (in a good way) and not something I'd ever seen before at a brewery.
Selection: 10 taps, all with creative options. The trend was to hops--lots of IPAs and PAs, and even the "hefeweizen" was heavily hopped. One lager (a fall-spiced dunkel) and one porter (more like a coffee brown ale); if you're a hazebro you're gonna love this place. I liked most of the beers I tried just fine, and my wife loved the sour fruited ale, which was almost like red wine. As someone else mentioned, no flights, only full and half pours.
Food: Looks like an outside sandwich vendor.
Price: DMV average, so no issues there.
Overall: Definitely worth a visit. Gives the vibe of a place that will try something new and creative, and you never know what you mind find. When it comes to nearby competition, the ambiance is better than Black Flag and Jailbreak, and the beer is better than Hysteria. |
84 /100 8980 MD-108, SUITE MNO Amazing beer at this place. Surprisingly good - almost all whether sours or IPAs were very solid. Ambiance is ok, lively on a Friday night. No flights available, they only do half pours, which can get heavy if you are on a tick mission. Sandwiches provided by a third party, mine was alright - a mortadella with decent vegetables. Service friendly. |
76 /100 40 N 3RD ST Stopped by on a Saturday around lunch ... good sized crowd but still seats at the bar. Nice selection of beers and styles that were average to above average. Would stop by here again when in the area. |
70 /100 Liberty Taproom and Grill - Columbia (Restaurant) 828 GERVAIS STREET Fairly large space, subdivided into several sections, long bar; about 48 taps and some bottles and cans; mixed crafts and macros, few themed flights available (like choose any 4 from SC); good wifi; decent food. |
70 /100 705 GERVAIS STREET Medium large space, industrial decour, full bar. 9 own beers on tap. Flights available. Good wifi. I had the place to myself on weekday at opening time. Beer menu very out of date - bartenders rapid fires all the changes. Good burgers. |
88 /100 40 N 3RD ST CKW brews some really good beer. It is located in a building that was occupied by a telephone company and it shows it industrial roots. All of the beers are well made and true to their style. |
82 /100 1231 SHOP ROAD What a great venue. Plenty of options. Roof bar for adults. A turf field for kids to play cornhole or other sports. A covered area for watching sporting events. The food was excellent. the only weakness was their beer selection was short of more IPAs. The location is near the USC football stadium. |
74 /100 1402 JIM HAMILTON BLVD This is an amazing brewery to visit. Lots of room on the main floor and on the roof. There is plenty of room for group parties. There were games for the whole family. The beer list was small but with reasonable choices. The Curtis-Wright Hanger on Owens field is a cool place to drink craft beers and ales. |
84 /100 1231 SHOP ROAD Nice industrial building with a small inside seating area and a great outdoor area that included covered tables with tVs and a large astro turf area with picnic tables and corn hole games. They also have an awesome upstairs outdoor bar that seemed pretty new when we visite. Beers were all pretty solid and a good selection. Food was pretty good - the hot wings were excellent - smoked and then fried. Freindly staff - I was just enjoying my beer when the bar manager came over and offered me a tour of the brewery. |
84 /100 9570 BERGER RD I have now been here several times, and it is a solid spot. Not large, located in an industrial complex a couple of units down from a distillery. Easy walking distance from several hotels. Decent sized bar and a bunch of tables ranging from intimate to communal. Gets busy as hell for trivia on Wednesday nights, otherwise pretty mellow. Most beers available in sample, full and crowler sizes, prices vary by type. Beer quality ranges from decent to very good, with an occasional excellent thrown in for fun. Staff is fun and friendly. This is definitely on my regular rotation when I am out this way. |
88 /100 8980 MD-108, SUITE MNO For a place onluy open four days a week this is a nice establishment. Quite large inside, lots of tables of various sizes. Seating is more restaurant style than bar style, honestly. The bar itself is large and centered in the space. Brewing equipment behind glass visible in the back; shiny and clean stainless. 9 taps running when I was there. Great and friendly service. Printed taplists with full descriptions of everything. No flights, but $3 half pours of everything are available. The decor is quite nice, black tables and chairs, unfinished ceiling, also black. Old style lighting. I don't believe that they have food, but they do sell shirts and other miscelany. Food trucks later in the afternoon. Beer quality is Excelllent as well - I would say without hesitation that this is the best beer brewed in the greater Baltimore area. I wish they were open more days. Revisit 2022. still half pours, although $3 is a thing of the past. Beer quality still high, thought Elder Pine is now competitive in terms of best. Still a destination that should have more hype. |
92 /100 8980 MD-108, SUITE MNO Incredible staff, perhaps the best beer I've ever had, and a nice decor (despite the industrial park setting). The only downside is that the "sample size" is actually a half-pour, 7oz size, making a flight both pricy and pretty boozy given the general ABV of most of their beers! Often have food trucks on hand. |
74 /100 9315 SNOWDEN RIVER PARKWAY Yep, industrial park, flights available and pretty solid beers. Thats about all I can say. |
64 /100 8865 STANFORD BLVD Can you spell "chain" ? Did not try the food. Had an OK house beer, but that is about all I can say about the experience. Service was kind of slow, actually. |
76 /100 Victoria Gastro Pub (Restaurant) 8201 SNOWDEN RIVER PARKWAY Parking behind is nice. Another manor hill location. Bar upstairs as I recall. Sample prices high and quite variable. Service good. Quite a selection of guest taps. |
76 /100 6480 DOBBIN CENTER WAY I did not realize that this place was affiliated with a brewery until I arrived. Definitely a sports bar feel to it. Lots of guest taps as well. I tried a couple of Oliver beers; the old ale was solid, but the NE IPA was kind of dismal. |
84 /100 9570 BERGER RD Hysteria actually manages to achieve a somewhat unique character among all the places in industrial corners of Virginia and Maryland. Nice cozy place inside with great service. Was in here on their one year anniversary. About 20 taps on, all available in 5oz pours. Beers were decent, though they nearly all had strong booze flavours. And when you taste a lot of booze in a saison, imagine what their triple IPA is like. Anyway, hopefully they will work through these kinks, as well as running out of beer - first time I tried visiting months ago they were randomly closed for six weeks since they ran out of beer. |
70 /100 8980 MD-108, SUITE MNO Went there opening day. Met the Mad Fermentationist, who owns the place - full disclosure: I've been a fan of his for a while. Good beer, but the location kinda sucks. You've really gotta drive there, which means I couldn't drink as much as I wanted. |
80 /100 6695 DOBBIN RD Ambiance: Kind of off the beaten path, big parking lot. Huge interior space, well-divided into different areas. Nice fish tank. Service: Prompt and friendly enough. Did not offer any tasters, even when we asked if they had flights (they don't). Selection: Great draft menu board of around 47 options, mostly local, almost all truly craft, and split among a wide variety of styles. They have a big bottle list, but I didn't look at it. Food: Pretty typical bar/pub fare. Kid liked her burger, wife liked her nachos, and my chorizo/queso dip was excellent. Value: Decent for the DMV. Overall: An excellent place to try local-ish craft beers, with one HUGE negative in that they don't offer flights. I was at a tiny taco/bbq joint the other day that had exactly six taps, and they even offered flights. A place with this many taps is doing a disservice to themselves and their beer nerds by not offering flights. |
86 /100 6480 DOBBIN CENTER WAY A nice pub style restaurant. Good choice of appetizers as well as entrees. Tried a few things over a few visits and was not disappointed. Wait staff was very nice, attentive, and made good suggestions. A good selection of beers on tap, specials, cocktails, and bottles. Some were a bit pricey, but there were many reasonable options. |
62 /100 8865 STANFORD BLVD A bar with food. The beers are their own and relatively cheap. Not fantastic, not absolutely horrible. Good for hanging out for a bit with folks and getting a quick bite. Mainly personal pizzas, some appetizers and salads. Staff is friendly and will keep bringing you cheap beer. |
66 /100 8865 STANFORD BLVD Others mentioned this place was hard to find, I had no problem (stop mall with Krav Magra on the other end). Free dedicated parking in a strip mall. Pretty busy for dinner Friday, but we got a table right away. Pretty limited menu with a focus on pizza. My dog pound pizza was average quality and above average in price. The beer was average quality and cheap. They have a theme of everything comes in pairs. If you order a beer you get two beers, you also get two mugs of water. The place was loud with loud music. I wouldn’t go out of my way, but the place is pretty fun. |
76 /100 9570 BERGER RD By far one of the nicest breweries by ambiance I've ever been in. Not quite so cavernous, industrial, and loud as you're used to. Even though you are directly exposed to the large production area (and its sights, sounds, and smells), it somehow feels almost cozy. There's a reading nook, a few tables. Dark blue paint on the walls keeps it feeling close and it is definitely more quiet than many of the echoing, annoying spaces you find in breweries today. Service was fine. Friendly. Selection was about 10 of their own beers, which were a bit uneven. Couple of really good ones, one really terrible one, and most right in that 3/5 range. Tilted heavily to IPAs, with two stouts and a sour/stout hybrid. Would love to come back again to a bit more balance in the rotation. Value was great. Overall, really enjoyed the visit, and will come back again. |
68 /100 9315 SNOWDEN RIVER PARKWAY Typical industrial park brewery vibe, though slightly upscale. Inside is cavernous, lots of pale wood. Could use some acoustic tiling to keep the echos down, especially when it gets crowded and loud. Service is decent, although the time I went it was incredibly crowded and they only had three beertenders who seemed competent but also nearly overwhelmed. Food trucks frequent the outside. Value is decent. The beers are ok to solid. Ten taps with five flagships and five rotators. Family and dog friendly. Worth a visit, but if I'm going back I'm going back during off-peak hours so I can hear myself think. |
68 /100 6695 DOBBIN RD Came here 10.10.2017. Large brewpub a bit outside of the city. They brew their own beers (6) under the 'Reckless' brand. Tried the Pale Ale which was 'ok'. Totally they have around 50 beers on tap. Quite an interesting selection of mainly Easy Coast beers and 2 from the hand pump. Also good variety of some rare bottle beers, a lot of Belgium stuff. Food was also 'ok'. Had a Maryland crab cake. Did not like the ambience but beer selection is worth a stop if you come by. |
68 /100 9315 SNOWDEN RIVER PARKWAY Another industrial park brewery. Found this place on my way to find another which was closed for a few weeks for no reason nearby. This place was friendly and decently priced. Tasted a couple of flights there while waiting to pick up my girlfriend from a flight. Beers were ok. Modern type decor here. Decent but not a must hit by any means. |
78 /100 40 N 3RD ST We came here 19.8.2017. Really good place. A band was playing in the brewhouse behind the bar, how great is this! Beers and food was also quite tasty. We had a Guava Wheat, a smokey Porter and an IPA, all were above average for this area. Food is mainly Panini’s with local ingredients. Great positive surprise! |
72 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Columbia (Restaurant) 1009 GERVAIS ST. We had dinner here with a group of 6 and a baby on a Friday night when school was out, so it wasn’t too crowded. The service was fine; the young waitress was friendly. The food is always good at MM, and this one is no different. The beer menu at this location was a little weaker than I’ve typically seen at this chain’s other locations. I was, however, able to find a couple interesting locals and others at my table took advantage of the Westbrook Key Lime Gose cans that were available. Overall, not the best store of this chain but worth a stop for good food and a local pint or two. |
76 /100 705 GERVAIS STREET We stopped in here after checking in at a nearby hotel and made it for the end of happy hour, when all house drafts are $2 off. The service couldn’t have been friendlier or more attentive, and they even loved having my 1-year-old sitting with me and my wife at the bar (other places are not as kid-friendly). We didn’t eat anything but the menu looked good. There were about a dozen house taps with good variety. The quality was average. Prices were $5-$7 for house drafts. Nice, clean, new-seeming place. Can’t beat the location if you’re in or near downtown Columbia. It’s worth a visit for all of those reasons. The beer isn’t going to blow you away, but it’s worth your time. |
84 /100 705 GERVAIS STREET This is new brewpub in downtown Columbia. It is easy to find in the Vista area. Parking is more of a challenge for someone new to Columbia. The service was superb. All the beers were excellent. We had four of the beer son tap. We had a bread pudding with ice cream that was GREAT! Kindra, our waitress was very attentive and told us of the history. Check this place out. Back in 2018. This is a seven barrel brewing system. Try the Golden Rye a new ale for October. |
76 /100 6695 DOBBIN RD Free dedicated parking lot. Service was pretty good. Both draft and bottle menu was good. They had a handful of Push beers on tap. I had a steak burrito which was very good. Prices were good. I would come back. |
