72 /100 Gasthof 1618 (Bar) 18 KERKSTRAAT Zeer uitzonderlijke ligging in Begijnhof met mooie bierkeuze. |
74 /100 Het Haasken (Bar) GROTE MARKT 11 Visited before and after Diesters Bierfestival. Cosy tavern by day, turns into a crowded, loud and somewhat sterile youngsters’ café at night. They make an effort in presenting their customers with a lot of regional beers, some of which were not even on this site yet, so this is definitely worth a visit if you’re in this area. The owner admitted not to drink a whole lot of different beers but nevertheless offered me a few American beers he got as a present as well as a Spanish beer - for free. I can absolutely recommend this place for the owner’s beer enthusiasm alone. Go here on a sunny afternoon or something and enjoy the view on the old Diest church. Has been a local for twenty-odd years apparently, but since the current owner took over and realized beer is a hot issue these days, has been nicknamed ’Biertempel’ as well, quite justly so. |
80 /100 Gasthof 1618 (Bar) 18 KERKSTRAAT Lovely cafe within the Beguinhof selling Loterbol beers includuing the Blonde 6 on tap. Don’t confuse it with the nearby Haacht affair. |
80 /100 Het Haasken (Bar) GROTE MARKT 11 Best beer list on the Grotemarkt - I counted over 40 on the menu including everything from Loterbol including Turvebol (albeit at over 9 euros for 37.5cl). They also have the blonde 6 on tap. |
50 /100 Het Haasken (Bar) GROTE MARKT 11 Visited October 2009. We went here and Gasthof 1618 restaurant (located a ways away in the begijnhof) before the first Diesters Bierfestival. Both bar and restaurant are owned by the same person. The Haasken is an okay locals bar on the main square. I counted 31 beers on the menu with three Loterbols and 11 trappists as well as a few other decent regional beers. I had a draught and a bottled Loterbol but was not impressed on this occasion. There is a basic food menu but we did not eat. |

50 /100 Het Haasken (Bar) GROTE MARKT 11 There are basically two reasons to come here. One, this town’s old Grote Markt is very nice to look at in the evening. Two, the bar has Loterbol on tap the only other place is the owner’s Guesthouse 1618 in Diest’s Begijnhof. Otherwise, besides a few Trappists and safe beers, there’s not much here. Nice, clean but dark ambiance in the pub though. Seems to be favored among the locals. |
