60 /100 GLAVNA BB Visited with the Varionica people (thanks guys!). Well, nomen est nomen. This is actually a hotel with a 9 hole golf course next to it, located on the outskirts of a village known for gold panning on the nearby Drava river. The nice, wooden-ish insides are quite sprawling, and likely to be relatively empty. It’s always had a dark beer, first a lager and now for the last two years an ale as its sole beer and has no plans at all to expand their portfolio. The IPIM plant is mostly in the basement, with the control panel up above. After Varionica started brewing there & some time has passed, the beer, now an ale, has skyrocketed in consistency and quality from what it used to be and is now a solid brown ale. And very, very cheap to boot, really value for the price. Quite good food judging from the Wienerschnitzel & spicy đuveč-rice I’ve had. They apparently also make a beer liqueur that I managed to miss, but will try next time. All in all, a nice countryside hotel with cheap but fine brown ale made there. Visit it if you’re in the area. |
