“Old stone building, on the main street. No dedicated parking lot, but plenty of free street parking and a small lot not far away. Low drop ceiling, shabby furniture, and awful wall art. Tons of printer paper notices, and poster board and sharpie signs. The bathroom is through the brewing area, and is in terrible shape. The owner/brewer/bartender (presumably) was standoffish and irritable. Only six taps, and none were better than fair. This is an unfortunate brewery, and I cannot recommend it, even if you are in Granby.“

“Visited in August 2017. Located in a small building in downtown Granby. The relatively small interior has a casual somewhat ad-hoc feel. Up front feels more like a brewery supply store with a mix of home brew supplies on offer, and in the back there’s a space not much bigger than a living room with a makeshift bar, a sofa and a couple of tables. There were perhaps 6 to 8 other visitors at the time, which made it feel lively given the small space, and the friendly owner kept busy serving glasses of quite decent stuff. Overall I would sum it up with the words quaint, small scale, homey, and pleasant.“

“Saturday night, fairly busy, inside and out. Decor needs a bit of a refresh. Good service. Big menu. Good service. Small selection of their beers, plus a couple macros. Their beer is okay. I’d go back, for sure.“

“The Cambridge House Brew Pub is located in rural CT and was somewhat on our way to hiking the CT high point, Mount Frissell. Outside a glistening silver horse greets guests and invokes immediate conversation as to why this is here. Inside the bar and dining area are to the left. We chose bar seats and promptly negotiated a sampler tray along with a pint of the seasonal offering. Directly behind the bar is a small brewery with empty commercial bottles lining shelves above the tanks as if the brew master was collecting memories of all of his brewing inspiration. The food was good pub fare and reasonably priced. Our service was fine but not well versed on the beers.“

“Stopped here on the way out of Bradley airport on the way to visit family. Fairly anonymous look to the exterior, might be town by laws or what they choose to go with. We sat at the bar, woman behind the bar was very efficient, had what’s I’m guessing was a German accent, but could of been another Eastern European outcry too. Nice selection of house beer, I didn’t look for anything else, so I don’t know if the offer bottles. Thought the food was real good. I had a rueben, my wife a quesadilla. Both were very good. Had the IPA that was on. It was good, not great. Prices seemed fair for what I got. Glad to finally get here as I use to read about it a lot when I live in the metro west area of Boston and meant to visit , but never did. Worth a try, not gonna say go out of your way for, but it’s only 20 minutes from Bradley airport so if you find yourself driving through the area give them a try“

“A cozy brewpub in western CT. This is actually a fairly large place with an outdoor patio and plenty of indoor seating (looks like at least 2 rooms). The crowd on an early Friday evening was quite local. There were about 6 house beers on tap - the IPA and kolsch were excellent, the ESB was pretty decent too. There are also around 6-8 guest taps (generally local CT or MA beers, but not exclusively). Beer prices were reasonable ($4/pint, could have been a happy hour special). The food was around average to above average pub food quality, but the prices were a bit high. $12 for a chicken salad sandwich which was mostly bread, lettuce, and tomato...Overall, I did enjoy my stop here and found the beers to be better than expected. Worth a stop if you’re nearby, although the bill could be pricey.“

“My GPS thinks this is on the other side of the street but we manage to find it anyhow. I stopped here last week for dinner while on vacation with the family. Maybe a half mile outside of town this unassuming building looks like a converted house from the outside. We arrived later for dinner to find a full parking lot, but luckily it was not a totally full restaurant and we were seated quickly. Loud boisterous seating area with a bar off to the right side of the building and tables off to the left and around the bar and on the deck. 5 house brews on tap and maybe the same number on guest tap make the selection decent enough. The food is standard pub fare and tasty enough, the service was attentive and at the ready. Loud local vibe adds to the ambiance, pricing in line with everything else on the trip. The beer was hit or miss, with one a huge mess. I might go back if I was in the area.“

“(Visited 06/2013): Drove to Granby from BDL based on an airport advertizement for this place believe it or not. Located on a scenic road called Salmon Brook. There is ample parking all around the house.

The outside does look like a house. There is a deck/patio in the rear where the entrance is, along with a decorative horse. Inside opens to a host stand, with the bar immediately past, which has table seating around a central bar. Brewing equipment is visible, as is a rather large bottle collection. Large chalkboard listing the available beers.

Cambridge House has 5 house beers on draught. On my visit this included a Black Lager, Pale, Kölsch, IPA and "Steam Boch". The beers are all average to above average, and are available in a sampler. In addition there are guest taps from other regional craft brewers like Narragansett and Berkshire.

Service at the bar on a busy weekday evening was pretty good. The bartender was knowledgeable about the beer and friendly.

I did not have any food on this visit.

Overall this place is not really worth going far out of the way for just for the beer, but the scenery coupled with the selection makes it worthwhile.“

“Unfortunately I could only afford a blazingly quick drop-in here. I liked the "big old house" feel of the place and the staff was friendly. The menu was inviting enough, if standard New England pub fare. I only had one beer -- it was just OK, but I thought their offerings looked sturdy and relatively varied. Would like another chance to visit. (Brewery #595)“

“Finally made it the the original Cambridge House. Good sized bar. Staff was friendly. They had about five beers of their own on tap and five or six guest beers on tap. I only ate the buffalo wings but they were very good.“

“If it looks like from the picture that some guy built a brewpub in his house, then that’s exactly how it feels. Instead in of a laundry room, there’s a brewery. I think this adds to the places charm. They only had three of their own beers on tap, because they were out of everything else although they had a number of guest taps, mostly regional craft brews. It was too bad I enjoyed all three of the selections I had of theirs. The pizza I had was very nicely done, i liked that I could hamburger as a topping. Everyone seemed very pleasant, even for lunch. I’m surprised the score ended up being so low because if I’m ever in the area again, this will be a definite stop.“

“Nice place about 15 minutes west of the airport. They only had 4 of their own beers on tap but they were very drinkable, especially the IPA. They also had another 8 or so micros. Burger I had was excellent and my glass always had beer in it. Seems like the only place around where you can watch the game and drink some craft beer at the same time.“

“Établissement visité le vendredi 2 avril vers 12h30. Ambiance: Grande terrasse à l’arrière. Boiserie à l’intérieur avec un bar central. Présence de plusieurs téléviseurs et de jeux de dards. Musique en sourdine. Service: Très sympathique avec une bonne connaissance des bières. Explication des bières et suggestions. Sélection: 8 bières maisons au menu. Nourriture: Mon Olivia’s Southwest Chicken Wrap était correct sans plus. (144e rating d’établissement)“

“not a bad place if your in the middle of Granby and you need to pick something up, better than granby package store which is up the road, but not as good as valley wines and spirits in simsbury. not a terrible selection, not fantastic either, can find a gem here sometimes“

“Seems a slightly above average brewpub. The atmosphere was great, and the food was pretty solid, but we must have gotten the most uninterested server ever. She stopped by our table maybe twice during the hour and a half we were there aside from taking our orders and bringing drinks. It wasn’t packed, and we seemed to be one of only two tables in her charge. Someone else brought our food out and she seemed surprised to see us half done with our meals when she came by. Beers were so so, good atmosphere, solid food.“

“This is really in the middle of no where but a great fall ride there makes it worth it. When I went they only had two their own brews on tap. The Stout was so so and the Kolsch was very good - the opposite of how my normal tasting preference would go. They have a lot of other local brew son tap which is very nice. The setting is cool and homey and the staff is very cool. Wish I had a place like this in my neighborhood.“

“Basically located in the middle of nowhere. Shiny, tiled horse in the backyard, big patio for smoking and hanging in warmer weather than we saw, and multiple floors inside with a big bar. Very friendly, attentive service on a Saturday afternoon, nice crowd that, in general, seemed more attentive to the beer being served than most. Rowing and dart equipment lines the walls, medium-dark wood, lots of windows, unpretentious. The beers, really, are where this place shines, none of the over-the-top one-off beers you’d see at a lot of places, just excellent, consistently good beers. Flawless, well-attenuated, and very very drinkable. The Kolsch is magnificent, and the food looked pretty good as well, though we’d already eaten. About an hour away from my sister-in-law’s place, but totally worth the trip.“

“Rather large pub with the main section being more like a sport-brewpubs with large-screen tvs and stand-up tables. The smaller section (1/3) is more like resto-pub with sit-down tables. All total the place can easily sit over 100 people. Food was actually pretty good. A bit more refined than the standard greasy food pub fare. And now, on to the beer. Wow! I think there were 6 or 7 beers on tap the day we were there. We tried 5 of them and I rated four of the 5 in the high-3 low-4 range. The “less excellent” one was the basic stout and was still enjoyable. Definitely a place I want to visit again. And again.“

“Stoppped by here w/ the bro-in-law after a long ride and a stop down in Williamantic for dinner and beer. The Koelsch beer here was absolutely a delight, second to Cologne only in that it was served on draft vs. straight from the wooden barrel. The atmosphere was a little upscale, Granby seemed upscale. The service was friendly and I got to keep the pint glass with my second pint. I’d love to get by here again for their altbier. I can’t comment on the food, as this was purely a beer stop at the bar.“

“A large building housing a typically American brewpub with lots of TV screen showing sports. Despite the terrible winter conditions outside, the place was still half-full for a Sunday lunch. The food was tasty and satisfying though my beef tips were a bit expensive for the tenderness/quantity. There were 5 house beers offered and we would not ask for more as every one of them was beautiful, some bordering extraordinary. They seem to take plasure in tweaking some modest, almost session styles into excellent hoppy delights. Smiling and knowledgeable service. A most recommendable place worth travelling far to. Top 2 CT brewpub.“

“This quaint countryside brewpub impressed us quite a bit the day we visited with 4 scrumptious beers out of 5 (the 5th was still decent). They were out of their Kölsch, which was disappointing, but everything else was beautifully drinkable, generously hopped and crafted with care. The food was quite good homemade fare too my spicy jambalaya was very tasty. Service was very friendly as well and we got a free round when they realized we were travelling around to sample local breweries. All in all, a top notch establishment which I will go out of my way to visit again, that’s for sure. They are supposed to begin bottling their Kölsch, IPA, and ESB real soon too, so I am also looking forward to trying them in the bottle format.“

“This is a great cruise destination from the Hartford area. For me here in Farmington, I just cruise up the 10 for 45 to 50 minutes, a beautiful ride for the 64 bug. I love the place inside, a good pub feel, with a great HD 65 plasma screen for good sports. I’m not too sure about the flashy horse out by the patio - but there seems to be a lot of those around town - must be a Granby thing :). Great food and good hoppy beers.“

“Went here twice recently hoping that my first experience was an enigma. The beer is great as always and the service is good. The food, unfortunately, has really gone downhill. Everything tasted like it had been bathed in a salt and vinegar bath. I don’t think I’ll be eating here again anytime soon.“

“First of all, this place is in the middle of nowhere. It’s a good 15 minutes from the highway down a random road with nothing around it. Other than that, it’s a decent place. The beer I had was quite solid. They had about a half dozen house beers as well as that many guest taps. The food was good, but the menu is typical brewpub steak, pasta, fish, burgers, etc. The interior is classy with dark hardwood floors and bar. Seems more like a place to go out for a nice dinner than a night at the bar. The bartender I had was a little slow and inattentive, but not too bad. Overall, a nice place, but definitely second to Willimantic in my book.“

“(12/29/06) Much better beer selection this time -- six of theirs on tap, all of them were above average, and one (the Big Hoppy) was phenomenal. Good service too -- when the waitperson couldn’t answer a question, he brought the owner over to talk with me. The food was nothing special, but I was quite happy otherwise. (4/8/11/6/14)

(12/31/05) I drove a good distance to check this place out on December 31, and I was disappointed to find only three of their beers on tap. It’s fine that they had other micros available, but when I go to a brewpub, I want to drink stuff they make. I was informed that they just didn’t expect so much business (it being their first year in operation) and ran out, and that it’s unlikely that this will happen again. We had appetizers (no main courses), and they were pretty tasty. Service was ok. Nice place -- my sister-in-law enjoyed throwing darts for a spell. (4/6/6/7/10)“

“Popped in to check this out on our last stop of the MBA and Mkobes tour. They were out of their IPA and Wheat, so I think there were only 5 house brews on, one of which was a blueberry beer. They also had a nice selection of 5 other micros including 2 frm Red Hook, one TH, and something from the UK. We had some limited food, but it all seemed good. No one was there, so the service was personal, and she knew the beers well enough. Beers were all tasty, and I hope that I can be back with more of a lineup flowing. I hope this place stays around a good long time.“

“I’m finally getting around to rating my local favorite. It was quite a wait for them to open, and it has been worth it. They have put a great deal of emphasis on running a top-notch restauant, and it shows. The service has been very good to excellent on 95% of my visits (there is always a chance of someone having a bad day, but it is not the norm here). The food has some standard pub fare, with very good burgers and fish & chips. Appetizers have been tasty, including the very interesting wasabi dip for the jalepeno poppers. The other entrees have been always well prepared. I have had excellent steaks, Asian tuna, and cajun alfredo and all have been quite good. Now we get to the beer. Each one has been a well crafted and balanced brew. Unfortunately they have run out of some of them from time to time, which is a testament to their success. Their most recent addition of a blueberry beer has been excellent. The flavors are even and well balanced. The IPA has been great. And what I like about them even more, they keep a varied selection of other micros on tap, filling out different styles to keep everyone happy. Update: The place hasn’t changed with the new owners. The beers continue to be good and the food is good and consistent.“

“This place had been opened a week when I went, so I’m sure they were ironing out a lot of kinks. The entrance to this pub is in the back, and not the front. The interior has wood floors with white walls and lots of woodwork. In a way, it seems a little too sterile and a little bit too much like a museum. The bartender was ok, I didn’t pimp her beer knowledge or anything...While sitting there rating, the brewmaster came up to me and started chatting with me. We had a nice conversation, which was cool. They had 4 of their house beers on (their IPA had sold out in less than a week!) and they also had Thomas Hooker and a couple of Redhooks for Guest taps. I ordered the chili, which was very very tasty. They gave me some amazing home made bread and breadsticks to go with it. This is a good place that is starting off slow with intentions to grow. The beer was very impressive.----I’d recommend calling to get the tap list before driving to this pub. They have difficulties with keeping up with demand. Also, the more I go here, the more clueless, slow, and poor some of the bartenders are. If the beer was marginal, that would be reason for me to never go there. The beer is well above-average, so I will deal with the poor service.“
