Meny Grimstad (Grocery Store)
BARK SILASVEI 7
“This grocery store seems to have the best beer selection in town. Slightly better than Spar, but not a very big difference. Not the best selection I have seen in a Meny store either, but decent enought. The usual suspects among local craft beers. (Visited August 20th 2022)“

“This is Homborsund brewery's bottle shop. Located in a closed down gas station. All bottles from Homborsund below 4.8% available. Also some from Qvart. Very friendly and talkative service. A great place in Grimstad to stop by when my wife was shopping. (Visited August 20th 2022)“

“Et typisk småbypol med liten ølavdeling. Skuffende utvalg fra de lokale bryggerier. Hyggelig betjening, men det møter man jo alltid på VP.“

“This place will be considered as heaven to many beergeeks. Nice minimalistic and wooden pub inside the old part of the brewery. Lovely view from the bar down to all the big barrels where the brewery keep all their precious gems.
Of course an excellent selction of Nøgne Ø beers. And you will probably get a hand on a are one or two if you get very friendly with the bartender!
The #problem” is off course the opening hours and the location. Call them and check it out. And there is always a cab to bring you to wherever. But call them in front also!
Can be very crowded“

“I've been here once before, back in 2009. Finally a revisit! If you only visit the bottle shop with some Nøgne Ø merchandise and beers up to 4.7%, your rating will probably not go crazy. Make sure to book a brewery tour! From the web site: Tours are arranged daily in the summer. Approximately 1 hour guided tour of the brewery with 4 beer samples. Brewery pub and shop will be open after the tour.I visited with the Norwegian RateBeer crew and the service was superb. Thanks to Tom Young! And of course Yngwie, Cunningham and others who arranged this epic evening and beer session. World class! (visited March 2nd and 3rd 2018 with the Norwegian RateBeer crew)“

“Visited with the Norwegian RateBeer crew. Simple "craft beer" interior with a view down to big wooden barrels. Mmmm, what's in those barrels? Ask for rare bottles or enjoy super fresh Nøgne Ø beers from tap. I was thrilled to find Nøgne Ø Dubbel Advent, a bottle I had given up ever finding! Hungry? There is a food truck outside. Nødingen Pub is a must visit if you are staying nearby. But, check out the opening times. Seems to be open the first Friday every month during the winter. And, you need to order a taxi to get back and forth. (Visited March 2nd 2018 with the Norwegian RateBeer crew)“

“Visited several times over the years, last time during RBNAG18, where we got treated like kings, for me this is the place where the modern Norwegian microbrewery was born, first to brew US hoppy styles beers and also caring about the large homebrewer society in Norway, with special brewing competitions amongst the popular activities. I also got served fresh artisinal icecream at one of my short visits here, a must stop at these necks of the wood.“

“Located inside the old brewery building, (former power plant) at Nøgne Ø, 2 oblong rooms, forming a big L, one bar with 6 taps, and a more than decent bottle selection. Recommended visit.“

“Quick in&out SEP2017. I suppose the one stately nannysource for Nøgne Ø's over 4,7% output. Having visited the source and being able to get Nøgne Ø ImpStouts & specials at decidedly less amputative travel budget rates at home, I decided to scout for entries on my gaardsøl & kveik questionnaire and came up empty, quickly reaching the limits of the state employees' interest.“

“Visited SEP2017 for their on-site shop of remarkable -4,7% ales, including special ales, the new Malmen black juniper ale, as well as friendlier priced near-BB Branderburger Gose and Bahrein Weisse. - Impressive, majestic operation by the water with both new and retro-industrial rooms to expand into. Sadly did not pass by on Friday, so no Nødingen Pub day, but was given a tour of the tasting room looking out on the barrel room and can only imagine the fun of attending an event in that setting. - Sale by iPad, receipts sent by email: hard not to leave with less than a full case at the start of a large-trunk roadtrip... The shaker glass thrown in on top is the heaviest in my collection and will be considered either a vase or a training glass for Kjetil Viking hands.“

“The Nøgne Ø tap room, focusing on new releases and some rare gems from the past. They also serves occasionally beer from guest breweries, particular other small local ones, a very sympatric act. Difficult to rate the selection as this will vary from time to time and sometimes be amazing if you suddenly find DH1 etc. and other time you may only find a handful of the more regular beers. Open for special events of all kind any now and then. Reasonable pricing, particular on some of the rare stuff. Small, cozy place with a patio for the summer days. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Small, cozy place with a patio for the summer days. Opening days and time may vary, so a check at their Facebook page is highly recommendable.“

“Been a regular customer for the past 5 years as it is my college town and I live just around the corner. If Nøgne sells it, they have it or can get it. Great and varying selection throughout the years. Occasionally a good selection of Cantillion, actually fair priced. Increasing amount of great homebrew on tap. A bit pricy for a Norwegian student. Excellent service, bartenders running down to the basement to look for new stuff if you ask. Food has been great, usually take visiting family there and have probably had the complete menu by now. Christmas menu is especially good. Could use an update on the music list“

“Great selection of Nøgne Ø bottles, some rare imports like Fantome. The bootles are very moderately priced. Tried two of their own beers, both of them very decent. A gem for a small town like this.“

“Located more or less next door to the most interesting pub/restaurant in the area, Apotekergården, you might as well stop by this Vinmonopolet store if you’re in town. The selection is far from broad, but they have a good and changing selection of the Nøgne Ø beers you don’t see everywhere.“

“-visited during zwanze day- The good: Nice "light" brown decor. Great selection of Nøgne bottles. Very cheap! (Dark horizon 4.edition and aruroa borealis 180 kr) Cozy. Nice outdoor seating. Great service. The bad: The taps tasted funny and probably needs some cleaning. Some even crazier stuff from Nøgne would be nice.“

“Updatet rating March 2018: Visited Friday 2nd with RateBeer Norway and Saturday 3rd with RuneStumo and Kaaz. 4 of their own beers on tap and interestings guests, among them Cantillon Fou' Foune! A flight called "4 smager" is 4x10 cl for 120 Nok. Check out their bottled selection, some hard to find beer at a decent price. (Cantillon Nath and CRAK /Nøgne Ø Cantina BV03 - yummy!) The best place in town a Friday/Saturday evening. Old rating: Nice place and good service, just too bad that they didn’t have any of their own beers on tap. One botttled house beer, Apotekergaarden Fin & Fjong Torvåsen Blonde. A good beer. Two beers from Nøgne Ø on tap and many bottles from Nøgne Ø and Lervig. Hosts Zwanze Day 2014 here in Norway. (Visited August 23rd 2014) (4-9-9-x-8-14=72) Revisited August 20th 2022 with my wife and several friends. Still by far the best place for craft beer in Grimstad but selection has dropped a bit since my visit back in 2014.“

“A nice cafe in an old wooden building just across the narrow street from the Ibsen Museum in Grimstad. Nice, spacious patio. Grimstad is a nice town with mostly old wooden buildings, all painted white. The surroundings are great, but what about the beers from Cafe Ibsen? This Saturday they offered an American Pale Ale and a Stout, both in a terrible condition. Unpleasantly sour and hardly drinkable! Nice place, friendly service and bad beer. Didnt quite go reach my expectations on either beer, service or food but it could be so mutch better with what they alerady have. Tried some of their own bres, thei where decent“

“Nice cozy unspilt cafè with a fine ambiance. Good food. But if you want to try their own beers. Do that in the summer time. My visit was in the autum...and I suspect it was a long time ago since anyone had ordered any of them. If you enjoy sour ale. Well this might be something for you. I think their ale is ok when you get it fresh and they sell regurarely. Selection of other beers was pretty bad. “

“Always nice to visit the brewery. The shop are allowed to sell all their below 4,7% alcohol beers, but the best way to experience the place is to attend at some of their event, like the Christmas beer release or home brewers day etc. Then the bar is open and its possible to sample a lot of not so common beers together with all the regular classics at all strength together with a bunch of beer enthusiasts. My score is then based on the ambience during this special occasions and not as a random visit a regular working day.“

“Any beer above 4,7 % ABV, listed as available at this location, can only be bought to be enjoyed on the premises and only when there’s a happening or a company kickoff or something similar. According to Norwegian legislation, they’re only allowed to sell beers at max 4.7% ABV to go. Mostly their own beers available, but every now and then they’ve had both Ægir, Mikkeller, Schneider and so on. The building that houses the brewery is a sightworthy century old power plant and looks pretty nice, and I’ve always received very friendly service. Some t-shirts, bottle openers etc can also be bought. Don’t think there’s any fixed opening hours, but weekdays from 8-16 would be my best guess. Beergeeks seems to be taken good care of if dropping in.“

“A strange one this, it’s basically a very old cafe, as little as possible changed through the decades. Or centuries for all I know. But they added a brewery in the basement. The beers aren’t very interesting, sometimes not even served in top form, but when the spring and summer arrives, the quality is higher. The food served is quite rustic and simple, but tasteful. I prefer going to the neighboring Apotekergaarden, but if I do so, I always stop by at Cafe Ibsen as well. The service is friendly, but sometimes a bit slow, and definitely old-fashioned. And if in Grimstad, shame on you if you don’t visit them, at least to see how it looks.“

“Nice place, good service, great selection of Nøgne Ø beers plus some others and if you’re lucky a couple of their own beer. Food is all right, maybe a bit expensive. Perfect place to visit during the summer, sitting outside a warm day and watch all the tourist walking by or maybe go for the local summer cabaret in the evening.“

“It feels almost a bit unreal to find a brewpub in this location. It’s a cosy café in an old traditional Grimstad house where older ladies and younger mothers with children goes for coffee and cake, maybe a salad and a sandwich. The interior gives a feeling to be invited to someone’s private home and closing time outside the summer season is 4 PM. No beer selection worth mention with the exception of their own brew. When available you might find 4-7 of their own brew on tap, probably only three or four. Three taps are for cask and occasionally they also make their own real cider. Really want to try this cider from local apples with some rhubarb added. The quality of the beers is a bit up and down at the moment, but hopefully just some start-up issues. Worth a visit, at least for the building itself.“

“A really nice place, pity Grimstad is so far off the beaten track. Nøgne Ø on tap, and 15-20 different bottles. The food is fine, and now they also brew their own beers, at least the first two were decent. Looking into the crystal ball I predict several more visits in the future.“

“I have to rate this in the context of a team building back in February 2012. The brewery have several options of tastings, we went for the one without dinner, but then again I think we tasted 12 different beers including 1 sake while being directed through the brewery. I let them know in advance about different beers I wanted to try, and they had gone out of their way to please. My entire department was really happy about the whole session, and most bought their 6 bottle case of Nøgne Ø shop strength beer, beer glass and piquet shirts. Most recommended.“
