“Review is only for their Moline location - also went to their Burlington location on this trip and it's far inferior to their Moline one. So these guys are kind of the biggest historic player in the craft beer scene in the Quad Cities area. Beers are generally good - nothing you'll want to pour out, but nothing you'll go out of your way for (locals are often big fans of Uncommon Stout, a good coffee stout, but there are better out there). Beers are good across styles though and there's a small beer garden out back.“

“Interesting selection. Great selection of meads - managed to get a Mulberry White here, which I'd coveted for a while. A few interesting things elsewhere in their warm shelves also. It otherwise has the ambience of a gas station, but they keep their selection up to date on Untappd and it's worth checking out if you're in the area for some reason. Whales don't move quite as quickly from here because it's not as high-earning a place as cities typically are.“

“Selection was decent - nothing you can't find anywhere else but you'll probably find something decent you haven't had before. Live music (and much more pleasant atmosphere) outside; a bit small-town Midwest inside. Fine, but better around.“

“I need to get back into this place as I hear they have a much better selection than back in my time living in the QC. I once got into an argument with a bartender and he yelled at me as I left, "YOU'RE BANNED FROM COMING BACK IN HERE... ON TUESDAYS!" or something like that, as that was the only day he worked. Always get laughs when I tell that story. Anyway I hear this place has a decent selection these days if you can get there on a night it's not full of gross townies. I need to check it out again sometime now that I'm back in the Midwest.“

“Cute little place in Moline, bartender was very helpful and good, food is mainly street tacos and apps (tacos were pretty good), they have about 4-5 of their own beers on tap, plus maybe 25 or so other guest taps and several others in bottles/cans, one of their own beers was very good and one was not very good so not sure what to make of that, looked like good quality in the guest selections though, fairly good pricing, maybe worth a shot if you are in the area“

“Visited December 2016. I could see this becoming one of the best spots in the QC. Kinda of busy considering it was 12/23, but good for them. Down in that part of Moline where the John Deere Commons and the pizza place and the homebrew store and such are. Not that you’d be wanting to know that from this rating. Anyway, small space, but it was well-lit and clean. Decent service - mostly chesty ladies interested in tips more than helping you with beer. Good food with great prices, great beer selection for the QC, plus a few of their own beers! Haus Brews, I suppose they’d say. Hah. Anyway, I’ll be back whenever I’m home visiting family in the QC!“

“My wife and I stopped in late on a Friday night. Very cool area that has a lot to offer as well as ample parking. I had a sampler of 4 beers. A flight of all of their offerings was available and, though tempted, I had to pass. I did not check how many on the full tap list but ther must have been a dozen. All 4 were I had were solid offerings. The Pilsner and IPA stood out. Having had the 4 made me want to try the full list. Maybe on the next trip. The space is in an old building that has been redone. It maintains that classic old look with steel tiles on theh ceiling, etc. Brew kettles directlly behind the bar. I was a little surprised and amused to find bottles of Bud Light, Ulra, etc. available. They have their own bottles for sale, too. My wife had a two piece chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and I wa hungry for some greasy nachos. The nachos weren’t quite greasy enough (can you believe I am complaining about that?!). They were tasty and enough for a meal for 2 people. We enjoyed talking with our server Chrissy about the area and travel, etc. She was pleasant and refreshing. I came away impressed with Bent River. Exceptional beers, cool place and area, a strong staff, and good food. This would be a regular haunt if I lived closer.“

“Nice little brewpub not far from the river. Cool kettles and fermenters right behind the bar. 11 of their own beers on tap. Beer is slightly above average but about as good as it gets (it seems) around here. Food menu is mostly sandwiches, burgers, apps - although they do have a taco special tonight, 3 tacos for $3.50, good deal for sure. Service is good. Good for the area overall“

“I come here often for a reason. They have good food, excellent service and an awesome beer garden. But it’s all about the beers. The Uncommon Stout is one of the original and best coffee stout I have ever had. They always have at least 9 beers of their own on tap and I have never been dissapointed. Stouts and hoppy Ales they do best. Best place in 100 mile radius I would think.“

“It’s a pretty generic feeling place. Lots of wood paneling, tables, booths, bars. A bunch of TVs playing sports and a jukebox. Looks like they had a decent outdoor patio, but we sat inside. A pretty impressive offering of beers - made me question the assumption that they were more on the level of nano-brews. The food was above average too - nothing crazy awesome that would draw me back specifically for eats, but the combination of above average eats and beers brewed in house does! Coming from Chicago, the fact that I could get a flight, two pints, and a sandwich for under thirty bucks blew my mind. The staff was friendly and able to make pretty good beer and food recommendations.“

“Went by myself while visiting from out of town and my wife was off doing something with her girlfriends. Had lunch and sat at the bar. Drafts are cheap. Lots of "lawnmower" type beers but they were well executed. Nice brewery atmosphere and smell. Tanks and other equipment behind the bar and they were brewing that day so I had something to look at. Nice servers.“

“Dropped on in here in the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, waiting for various relatives to get off work as I was in town visiting. Seated promptly, waitress was very friendly and helpful, talked about the beers and the brewpub. Place was nice looking - tanks behind bar and down to the back of the place. Looks like there might be a biergarden/patio in the back.

Beer pint prices were outrageously inexpensive, and the sampler was $5 for 4 4oz or so sized brews.“

“Visit for lunch. Seated promptly. Decor mostly dark wood with high tin ceilings resulting in a fairly noisy atmosphere although we had no trouble carrying on a conversation. Seventies music, Several flat screens with sporting events. Bar along one side backed by large brewing equipment. I had read horror stories of the service here but ours was great and the other servers seemed to be doing a good job as well. Menu mostly basic pub fare. My hamburger was very good, fries were good as well. Wife’s Cuban sandwich a bit on the dry side but good. Good variety of their own beers with a few interesting guest taps. has beers that will appeal to experienced beer geeks as well as people wanting more traditional. Will bring a small sample if you are interested in trying something. All in all very enjoyable.“

“When I am in Moline I usually stop in Rock Island first and visit their Hy-Vee as it seems a little more craft forward and is not too far out of the way. They have a decent selection here with a bunch of beer we cannot get across the river in Iowa. Service is okay, but does not seem too knowledgable when in comes to craft brews.“

“Fun German bar with a jail cell in it. Quite a few tap selections with quite a few good German brews available at a good price. I have never been impressed with the service here as the bartenders and servers have always seemed more interested in themselves than the patrons. The food is good with some interesting variations like rueben eggrolls. This is located just on the other side of Bent River so if you’re going to one you should go to both.“

“This is a must stop if you’re in the area. They always have at least one good stout on and most of their regular line up is decent to good. Service has always been friendly. They have jalapeno poppers that are wrapped in bacon that are wonderful and go great with their Jalapeno Ale. They also generally have one or two decent guest taps on.“

“My go-to store. I’m there pretty much every day(note that it’s a grocery store as well, with excellent eat in options). The staff is extremely friendly, helpful, and if you catch the right person, knowledgeable. They have one of the better selections in the area, but not the tops for the Illinois side. They will, occasionally, have something special held behind the counter/in the back, as well. They get all the Founders special releases(KBS, Devil Dancer, etc), and have been expanding their selection lately. If you ask for a brewery, they will do everything they can to get it. It took them over a month, but they nailed down a Clown Shoes distributor for me.“

“Bent River is within walking distance, for me, so I’m often found down there. They have their basic, brewed on premises, line up always on tap. Lately, they have been trying some new stuff, and it’s paying off(Their dry Irish stout aged on Jack Daniels staves, for instance). They always have 2 - 4 guest taps. Sometimes they’re basic, but a lot of the time there’s something really good. A lot of Founders stuff, Southern Tier, and Dark Horse guest taps. Occasionally, they get a special gem(Double Dry Hopped Sublimely Self Righteous anyone?) The food/menu had a remaking not too long ago, and it’s very good. Basic bar far, with a few extras thrown in. The meatloaf is great, as are the wings. Every day, for lunch, they have a $3 burger and fries basket as well. Servers are energetic and helpful, and the bartenders know their stuff. Often, you’ll be able to talk to the head brewer or owner, as well. Also, ask if they have anything special behind the bar, as evidenced by my Old Rasputin XII consumed there.“

“Not too far from the house is the Bier Stube. They have a pretty extensive tap selection, but there aren’t too many that aren’t the "usual suspects." There are always a couple of locally brewed options, and they have their own Hefe, on tap, that is brewed by Two Brothers. Even though it really is German owned, it tries too hard to be German style, to the point that it’s a hair tacky. The servers are decent, but the bar tenders don’t always know what’s on tap. The tap lists are kept fairly up to date. The food, though, is excellent. They have a TON of authentic German sausages, which they have a sampler of. They also have some very good schnitzels(the jager schnitzel being my favorite). Proper glassware is offered for most beers, and they have 2 liter boots available. Be warned, if you break a boot, they’ll charge you upwards of $50 for it.“

“Came here on a Wednesday night and it was pretty crowded, but still managed to get seats at the bar. It’s a fairly small place with a number of tables and a long straight bar that faces some of the tanks. They have a pretty extensive tap list (10 total on my visit). The beers I tried varied from average to really really good (the Uncommon Stout, Jalapeno Pepper Ale, Dry Hopped IPA). So definitely worth it to come here for just the beers. They also had a few guest taps and some guest bottles, mostly midwest offerings (ie Founders, Bells, etc). The food menu is standard pub fare, pretty average. Up there with Great River Brewer’s Lounge for best brewery in the Quad cities (I’d stop by both if I had the time).“

“My first stop after arriving in IL. This place is located inside a grocery store, but it is separated into it’s own area. The selection of locals here is pretty good. I found lots of things I haven’t had before, as well as lots of singles to build a six. Prices were fair from what I could tell, plus they had a neat little contraption next to the register that rapidly cools your beer. I guess for those that need to pop a top in the parking lot? Haha, nice though.“

“Maybe I came on a bad night (Sunday Memorial Day weekend) but the service after dinner was pretty bad considering the place was only 50% full. To not bring our drinks quickly because we’d eaten elsewhere is simply bad service.

Overlooking that the beers themselves were fairly decent. There was not anything too extreme. However it was more than your basic pale ale, amber ale, and stout. The sampler tray was a nice value at $1.00 per four ounce sample. It was also $4.00 mugs that night for pours to the top.

If I found myself back in the area I would probably first try Blue Cat which was not open at the time. Bent River was a little disappointing but who knows. Perhaps this is the best option available in the Quad City region. If so I would urgently try to seek out a better beer scene.“

“After a long day’s ride it was time to get some food and drinks. Walking into this faux German restaurant reminded me of walking into a fake Irish pub. Maybe it was the dead Sunday afternoon atmosphere and cheesy German technopop but this did not feel like entering an international bar.

The food options were pretty much what you would expect. I ate most of a reuben slathered in cole slaw before taking a look at the tap list. It was decent enough and not your run of the mill bar fare. Kudos on at attempting some level of authenticity.

I ended up not ordering a beer but there were around fifteen taps. Covering most styles they were mostly European offerings. Complementing these were a few local / regional beers which looked interesting. If I had been in the mood for something heavier than water there were certainly a few options. You won’t find anything too over the top here but the selection is better than the generic German lagers at some other places.“

“What a great place! I have always loves BR for the beer, but it looked like a dive for years. Upon coming back for a visit, man this place has changed! They loaded the walls with large, flat screen TVs, gave the place a much needed paint job, changed out the ugly tables, and added a new menu. Food is good, but used to be amazing about 6 years ago. They are starting to get back to the former greatness of the restauarant. But what people come here for is the beer. This is some of the best beer I have ever had. I used to be a local, so I may be a little partial but I truly believe the beers here stand right there with Founders, Troegs, Bells, Stone, Southern Tier, Three Floyds, etc. The waitstaff is friendly and and still has some face I remember from years back. The barstaff has a a fantastic beer IQ. If you haven’t been to this place in a while, check it out. This place has changes a lot, and all for the better.“

“A great little brewpub in a great part of town. Has a very warm and comfortable feeling. The locals that you will meet here seem to like beer and enjoy hanging out here. The bartenders always have a very rich beer IQ. I think the beers that they make taste great, but if you don’t they always have a cooler of guest bottles which usually seem to be cherry-picked by somebody for their outstanding quality. For instance, when I was there they had very nice selections from two brothers, founders, arcadia, dark horse, and southern tier.“

“Bent River is right around the corner from the Bierstube and across the street from a vintage candy store, making this my favorite block in the Quad Cities. Bartender and wait staff are very knowledgeable. In addition to the taps, they have a fine collection of bottled beer from other places. Didn’t eat here, but the food going by looked tasty. Sit at the bar if you want a running commentary on beer by the local fans, some of whom live immediately above the brewpub.“

“This is a new Hy Vee Wine & Spirits that opened in accordance with the new Hy Vee on John Deere Road in Moline, IL. The ambiance is bright, bland, and average - typical of Hy Vee’s style. The service is fine... the employees generally know where everything is and whatnot, and the manager is GREAT (Steve), but I’m Used to the Hy Vee W&S that I used to work at where we had 3 certified Wine Specialists, another that basically is but never took the test, and 3 people who are basically beer experts... tough to compare, I guess. Anyway, for a dumb old Moline store, the beer selection is great. Steve obviously did his work to get as many specialty bombers and good beers as possible - and he did a great job. The value is average - the markup is controlled by Hy Vee and not the managers, so it can be a bit high at times, especially if the shipment was small, but overall not bad. I like going here when I’m home in the QC because at the moment they have one of the best selections of beer in the Quad Cities... until the store I used to work at in Milan, IL finally gets to sell bombers because of the law I got changed!“

“I go to this place at least once a week and I really enjoy my time whenever I visit. The ambience is decent - German stuff thrown all over the place and there are always TVs with various sporting events on from baseball to soccer. Upstairs there is are old school arcade games and shufflepuck, which is always tons of fun. I’ve never had a problem with service, whether sitting on the restaurant or the bar side. The waiters and waitresses are prompt and attentive and I’ve never had a mistake with my food order or beers. The beer selection is pretty big with lots on tap and plenty of bottles to boot. The only drawback is that they don’t get new stuff frequently enough, and they have a hard time getting a lot of good specialties. The food is mostly German fare that is all delicious. The selection of sausages are made by the meat company owned by the same person who owns the restaurant - and he’s an authentic German. Get a German dish and you won’t be disappointed! The value can be great on the right nights. Mondays are $2.50 pints of about anything, and Wednesdays are $1 drafts of the common crappy beers, usually with something decent tossed in like Amber Bock or Leinie’s. Food specials vary from day to day and week to week, but there can be some great ones. Overall, I really like this place and highly recommend it!“

“After coming back home for the summer and visiting the revamped Bent River, I had to update my rating. This place has gotten even better. I always loved their beers, but now the place is finally clean, well-kept, and looks really nice. I don’t know what happened, but someone finally opened their eyes and turned a great beer place into a great all-around place. Definitely come here if you’re in the area!

Tuesdays are 2.50 pint nights, and Mon-Fri you can get $3 food baskets for lunch - so go on a Tuesday for dinner and you’re set... baskets are $3 all day on Tuesday!

In addition to having several of their own beers on tap, they always keep 1-2 guest taps on hand, and they also have a nice bottle selection if you get bored, though they can be quite expensive. The selection is nice, though, with good breweries and several imperial stouts, douple IPAs, etc.

The staff is always friendly and the bartenders usually know quite a bit about the brews!“

“5.25 for four eight ounce samplers, sign me up. What a deal. Food was pretty good too, like those tempura-like battered fries. Pretty small shop with people drinking large mugs of beer and tunes pumping out of the jukebox. They didn’t have much on tap, and nothing like the list advertised on their website. Speaking of their website – besides not updating the list anytime in the near recent past, there’s no mention of hours anywhere and I had to try calling them numerous times to see if they were open on a Sunday. Nice selections of bottles in case the stuff the had on tap isn’t your thing. The guest offerings were pretty good with FFF Robert de Bruce, Dark Horse Crooked Tree and something Rogue. Not real impressed with the beers but points for trying some odd styles that got me to choose Moline when my wife said let’s take a day trip to some brew pubs.“

“It often depends on what time of day you are visiting Bent River. On a Friday/Sat night, it’s incredibly loud with a live band playing in a small area. On those nights, service can be kinda slow, especially with food. On an afternoon or early evening, service, food, ambiance is great. It has a cozy/homey feel and would be a great place for a casual meal. By far though, their beer outweighs any negatives. I am willing to wait on a Fri/Sat night for a pint of Uncommon Stout (brewed with espresso) anytime.“

“Located right around the corder from Bent River, there’s a big difference in the type of crowd attracted to each place. Bier Stube had all the loud tables of amatuer drinkers you could ever hope for, and the beer selection was rather limited, of course focused on German beer, but most if not all of the selections you could find at other bars, and most likely at area beer stores as well. So, even though it’s close to Bent River, I won’t be visiting again.“

“Get the Cuban Burger... awesome stuff... A fantastic brewpub that has a local clientele and a casual, almost house party atmosphere at night. Two visits in a week because the food was good enough to bring us back, and there were more than a few interesting/seasonal beers: Jingle Java Stout, Jalapeno Ale, Oatmeal Stout, Uncommon Stout, Schwarzbier, pale ale, honey porter... and most of these were really nice, garnering scores in the mid to high 3s. In the front door you see a long bar that stretches the length of the room, and a seating/pub-type area to the left, a larger room with space up front for the bands that frequently play here. Service was nice, and the food was excellent for a pub, with buffalo burgers and pork tenderloin sandwiches that would fall under the category really tasty pub eats. So good I went back for a second visit, and I’ll definitely visit again whenever I’m through the area.“
