“Right next to the hotel we were staying at. Just a small shelf with their own beers, nothing more. You could see the brewery equipment inside, though.“

“Oostende 20/7 2023. A very small place at Van Isrghelaan in midtown Oostende. Seems to have shrunken a bit lately. The brewery is still at the ground floor but the bottleshop consisted only of a single rack with ‘t Koelschips own products. Very kind and helpful people working the brewery while selling beer on the side.“

“Oostende 19/7 2023. The local supermarket in central Oostende. While I was not able to find any milk I could certainly find a lot of beers. Have all what you would expect for a Belgian supermarket and a lot of regional beers as well. And there seems to be a decent rotation of beers.“

“Visited September 2022. Next one please!“

“I'm not sure why so many people say it's like an English pub - it says Belgian or Dutch café toe, through and through. Friendly staff, 16 beers on tap, not cheap but not pricey either. There's not many 'new' beers but plenty new to me. What's not to like? Well, OK, the background music maybe... (-:“

“Located downtown Ostende, this music bar is quite nice. And nice music the whole night. 8 Beers on tap, some locals, some macros. Nice selection of mainly Belgian beers (lots of Tripel). Spend a nice evening there.“

“Nice place at downtown Ostende. Looks loke an English Pub and has an excellent selection of Belgian beers. Also a nice selection of beers from abroad. Still 16 on tap. Staff needs some moments to get warm, but then very friendly and communicative. Dinner is nice, prices still fair. Always worth a visit.“

“The correct Name is Bierrestaurant Heerlijk, The correct opening hours are Open: Wed - Sat 11.30 - 14.00 & 17.30 - 21.00 Sun 11.30 - 21.00 Closed: Mon - Tues A modern restaurant serving super, very tasty dishes that have beers recommended with each course matched perfectly with the food, such as a stew of pork cheeks with Rodenbach, freshly prepared steak tartare or a chocolate mousse with Trappist beer. Their passion is reflected in a monthly 5-course menu with matching beers, a true culinary delight for the eye and taste. Extremely sweet and helpful staff, who will if asked will immediately provide a nice explanation as to why the beer is paired with a specific dish. They have 8 large fridges with all the Trappists in and more than 100 specialty beers, as a beer lover can enjoy a few hours here. Also nice that dogs are welcome. Ideal to end a day at the coast. Recommended.“

“Located quite close to the cathedral square, this is a cute and classic Ostend pub, especially the facade is designed in a cool and colourful way full of Weird murals. This very small brown pub attracts many, let us say ’colourful’ locals as well as Flemish artists. There is an outdoor area with lots of with flowering plants in handbags., you sit in a small fenced area. Inside it is cosy and cluttered with all types of interesting old things and tight with just enough room to peruse the small beer list, this is not a beer pub. The owners are elderly people who have probably fulfilled their lifelong dream here. Overall a fascinating, and quirky pub that everyone should visit.“

“Brewery with beer store not far away from the North Sea dyke. The place is pretty messy, with the brewery on the ground floor and the shop on the first. You have to go through a part of the brewery before reaching the stairs up to the shop. The selection is not bad: Homebrews and other Belgian beers like Westvleteren, 3 Fonteinen and similar brands. The guy who served me, I guess it was the boss, seemed to be nice. But his prices were over the top. Plus he didn't give me an invoice for the beers I bought.“

“Café in the style of an English pub but with service at the table. The beer selection of around 300 beers, of which 16 from tap, is impressive. They also serve typical Flemish/Dutch snacks like bitterballen or kibbeling. As far as I understand one can also have a proper meal here. The waitress does her job well, but as always in Flanders I don't know which language I should use with locals. I speak German, French and English, unfortunately no Flemish/Dutch, which often results in messy dialogues, like with the waitress at the Botteltje. By the way for a place with that many beers it still has reasonable prices.“

“Visited twice in two years. Bit of a mixed experience. Tap list is not interesting for the average Ratebeerian. Bottle list is quite extensive, but you'll have to take a very close look (and the descriptions are a mess). Moreover, the prices are too high, or a couple of bottles are already depleted. Then don't leave them on your menu... But, it has a nice atmosphere, a bit like Cambrinus in Bruges. Food is good, and you'll leave with a full stomach. Try the calamares as appetizer and the burger as main course. Some of the staff are young and friendly, others not so much, and not knowledgeable in general. Anyway, just give it a try, it's still the place to go to in Ostend.“

“Visited on 16/11/2018. Lively atmosphere in a nice cosy (however big) pub. Bar tables, normal tables, sofa, .... Beer list is big and nice, not extraordinary. However was able to find some beers I wouldn't find in a lot of other places so that's OK. Taplist is quite commercial. Would like to see some special ones there. Didn't try food or other thing. Would go back when in Ostende again and luckily my wife liked it too!“

“Quit a famous pub in the Ostend entertainment district - the local of soul legend Marvin Gaye during his time in the city. Very atmospheric 'brown' pub with much more focus on music than on beer and therefore, contrary to Botteltje further down the road, not a true (Rate-)beer place if you ask me. They did, however, have an above average selection of Belgian standards, including some traditional geuze (Oud Beersel); a bit less beer-centered than the equally well-known Manuscript just across the street, but an agreeable, if sometimes very busy pub with friendly and efficient service, at least during the late afternoon I spent there with Goedele. But again: not specifically a beer place per se.“

“By far the best beer place in town. The 16 taps is not what you come here for. Well, there are some decent beers on, but also some boring stuff (Leffe, Guinness...). The real treat here is the bottle list. About 300 different bottles with a lot of very interesting stuff - all Belgian. I went three times and the service varied a lot. It can be rather slow and unattentive but on my last visit I think they finally found out, that I'm into beers and I got a very fine service. Prices are decent. The place also carries lots of spirits and cocktails (they claim they have 75 different kinds of genever). The food is really good“

“8 taps and about 50 bottles. They even have their own house beer brewed by Fort Lapin. A large selection of different burgers of high quality. I'm not sure you can go here only for beers. I think you have to eat. The beer selection is pretty decent with a lot of the more lesser known Belgian breweries. Nice service, but the prices are a bit steep“

“8 taps with mostly boring InBev stuff. About 70 bottles with some exiting stuff (Westy 12 for EUR 12 for example). This place is really cozy in the daytime and turns into a very loud music venue in the night. Go here for the beers at day and party at night. Super friendly and attentive service at day - at night not so much. Prices are decent“

“Visited this place around noon time last Saturday with my girlfriend; conveniently located in the same street as the hotel where we were staying, I’ve been curious about this place, a beer shop that started brewing their own beer a couple of years ago now, for quite a while. The owner – which I read below can be quite unpleasant, it seems – wasn’t there, but his wife was, and we were allowed to go perusing upstairs, where the actual shop is; all the space on the ground floor seems to be occupied by the brewing equipment and activities. Upstairs looked like a living room – which is probably what it originally was – including comfortable sofas and other pieces of furniture, lined by shelving with the beers put on display, a kind of ‘beer boutique’ as it were. Selection was interesting though not overly exclusive – especially in such a boutique-like setting – including ordinary Belgian classics alongside some lambics (the Hanssens experimental series, among others), some of the less common Struise, Dochter and Verzet beers, local ‘streekbieren’ and of course their own house beers, yet nothing from the international craft beer scene; I did find a few ticks there, at prices which are, in all, a bit steep for what it is, especially considering the fact that most beers were already quite old and not in good condition anymore. The lady settled the bill downstairs (didn’t even pay any attention to us while we were the only people ‘shopping’ upstairs) and did this as quickly and efficiently as possible, without being particularly welcoming or even asking why we were there or why we were interested to visit the place. Apparently tastings were held outside on the sidewalk in the afternoon the same day. Weird place, their own beers are far from good and seem like amateur brews with sometimes huge technical flaws, their selection of other beers is okay I guess but prices are a bit high and many bottles have past their prime. Happy to have finally seen this place, maybe I’ll even return next time I’m in Ostend, but only because I like the city in general and this is basically the only shop with an above average beer selection.“

“Weird, I thought I had rated this location before... :-o Anyway, semi-large selection, but most of it is pretty standard. Visited a couple of times, without being able to find a new tick. Owner can be very friendly or pretty rude, depending on his mood (or hangover? :p ). Prices are very high, IMO. Oostende is not Brussels...“

“A large, almost English feeling pub with a large amount of Belgian beers. While the vast majority is well known, I was stil able to pick out a couple of (local) ticks. More importantly, the atmosphere is great, with really friendly staff, very laid back, surprisingly good food and very okay (especially for the area) prices. We really enjoyed our stay here. Friendly staff an locals, knowledge enough. yes, they can improve their beer list a bit, but with so many good Belgians you could also argue there’s not much left to wish for if you don’t care about ticks.“

“First came here about 25 yrs ago when it was a smallish bar of some character. Now it has expanded beyond recognition and has adopted the foreign ’English Bar’ style seen in cities all over the world - everywhere except England that is.Selection is pretty good, although the menu is a bit of a nightmare to read. Service ok. Prices are VERY high(E6.60 for Rochefort 10) and it does seem like a bit of a tourist trap. Certainly not how I remember it from all those years ago.“

“Great place with a nice vibe (at least that I know of in the evenings), a pretty nice beer selection. Maybe a little loud, but moving to the terrace can help in the summer. Just found out by accident that this place is on ratebeer. Wouldn’t exactly have thought to add it myself, as it’s not really a beer pilgrimage place, but definitely stands out from most of the other Ostend pubs and bars.“

“Bar in the small square with Cafe Manuscript dead opposite. There is a pleasant atmosphere, cool and in a good position, although I expect it could get really busy in the evenings. The beer choice was a little limited we found and quite pricey. The service was fine for us. Nice place.“

“Popular, well regarded bar cum pub in the slightly seedy part of town. There is a large front terrace / seating area and seemingly fairly tight inside. The service is friendly and excellent and the beer range was pretty impressive for us. Overall this was our favourite place in Ostend and we would definitely return.“

“Quite a large place just off the sea front in Ostend with an enormous list of beers, some of which are not available, many are variants of the normal Belgian popular beers, but plenty to be going on with. It lacks some atmosphere we thought and the service was aimed more at the locals than us visitors, but hey ho. It’s definitely worth a visit but maybe you will have to search hard for anything unusual.“

“Fascinating, and quirky pub quite close to the cathedral square and the first pub we came across on our way from the Bus / Train station over the harbour. Weird murals adorn the outer walls with flowering plants in handbags. Inside is cluttered and tight with just enough room to peruse the small beer list. We sat on the little benches out the front in the May sunshine. I believe that there is a larger room to the left but we didn’t look. Certainly worth a visit for its eccentricity if not the beer list, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.“

“The beerlist is very extensive, but most are "regular" Belgian beers. But with some searching you can find a couple of interesting beers. They also have some nice beers on tap.
