56 /100 Giraffe Supermarket (Beer Store) KHUN BU LOM RD Decent supermarket with lots of Chinese and Thai products. Beer selection is about 20 Belgians, at decent price. |
76 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) Another great surprise in VTE. Belgian restaurant with close to 100 bottles (mainly Belgian with some brewdog) and decent prices (around 10$ to 15$). They have some Belgian food as well as international fares, including a poutine! Good service. Beautiful brown café décor. |
62 /100 Simeuang Mini-Mart and Bakery (Beer Store) RUE SAMSENTHAI Maybe 15 bottles , mainy Belgians, but good selection. Charcuterie, wine, and al. Prices are decent. |
76 /100 RUE THADEUA This is for the new Brewhouse. Located off à main artery, this place looks modern, industrial cubist, with high ceiling. Seems they are finishing a patio on the lower ground, along a Creek. Service was attentive (langage could be an issue). 11 beers on tap. Flight of 3 for 66k Kip (like less than 4$) and pints between 50k and 75k kips (2.50 to 4$). Had 2 IPAs and a brown ale, decent to solid. Food menu of Lao and pub grub. Recommended. |
74 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) Very surprised to find this place in Vientiane. Very quirky and certainly worth a visit. On tap they had Rodenbach, Boon Oude Gueuze & Charbon & Belle Fleur from D v/d K. all at prices which, although extortionate for Laos, would be normal in Europe. The place to go when you just can't face another Beerlao. |
68 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) If you like Belgian beer then it's a must-to visit place. And if you miss good craft beer then you must visit too :-)
14 beers on the tap and about 100 bottles. They've only Belgian beers.
The prizes for the beers are okay, the food is too expensive.
|
66 /100 Tyson Kitchen (Restaurant) FRANCOIS NGIN They have the Free Bird, it's a Rye IPA from Rock Brew. The only craft beer that I could find in Vientiane. The beer it's great.
In bottles they have some Beerlao.
Food is okay. A lot of Pizza and burgers but some tasty salads too.

80 /100 The Beer House ???????? (Bar) RUE DU PUITS VIENTIANE LAO PDR A paradise for Belgian beer lovers.
On the tap they had 7 beers today (only Belgian) and more than 150 different bottles. I hoped for some local bottles but they had only Belgian beer.
The service is great. To every beer they present you some nuts and a glass of water. I didn't ask for food but I think they don't have. The prize for the beers on tap is between 45 and 50.000 kip for 500ml |
32 /100 O’Grady’s Irish Pub (Bar) PHONPAPAO ROAD Quite far out of town to walk (40 minutes or so), so it’s best to take a tuk tuk or taxi here. They sometimes have Rock Brew on tap, which is the only thing that’d make this of real interest to a ratebeerian, though they didn’t when I visited. They have Guinness, Old Speckled Hen, a cider and some local macro stuff. Staff are very responsive to Messenger messages, so it’s worth inquiring ahead of time if they have Rock Brew. If not, it’s a typical Irish pub that doesn’t interest me and too far out of the way to make a special trip. |
32 /100 Vientiane Social (Bar) BAN PHONSINUAN, POST BOX 3381 A little outside of the town centre, but still walkable to. Darkly lit, with a dive bar crossed with a modern feel and classic rock playing. They sometimes have a Rock Brew beer on tap, which is what makes this place on the ratebeer map. Unfortunately, they were all out when I visited, so I was stuck with Beerlao and Limburgse Witte on tap, plus a few bottles. Reasonably priced, but worth checking with them first to see if they have Rock Brew if that’s the only thing you’re interested in. Service was friendly and the guy spoke good English. |
26 /100 Cloud 9 Shop (Beer Store) RUE DONGPALANE Pleasant little shop with mostly generic Belgian beers and a couple Lao macro lagers that you can get anywhere else. Prices for the Belgians are reasonable. It’s the place to come if you want some Belgian bottles to bring back to your hotel; otherwise, no point coming here, though it’s pretty close to Vientiane Social. |
48 /100 Déjà Vu Cocktail Bar (Bar) NAMPHU SQUARE Limited hours, so check before coming, unless it’s on your way. They didn’t have any beer when I went, but was told that was temporary, so we indulged in some great cocktails. No menus; you just tell the friendly and skilled bartender what you want and he whips you something up. 50K kip per drink. Comfortable, clean, modern feel to the bar, with AC. The bartender is super friendly and informative about what life is like in Lao. Recommended visit for the cocktail fans. (Can’t really rate this highly on ratebeer due to the lack of beers.) |
66 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) Well-located right across from the Mekong River, this is a great Belgian beer cafe to hang out in. Maybe 100 bottles to choose from, plus another 10 taps (all Belgians). They do special promos in certain beers everyday. Reasonable prices, comparable to The Beer House but not quite as good a bottle selection. Very friendly staff, with a Belgian guy working behind the bar who is very happy to talk beer. A must visit when in Vientiane. |
54 /100 Tyson Kitchen (Restaurant) FRANCOIS NGIN In craft beer starved Vientiane, this place is worth hitting. Aside from the regular macros in bottle (and can), they had a Rock Brew beer on tap, which wasn’t bad. They also have a full menu, specializing in pizza and other Western foods. Very reasonable prices. And Tyson is a super nice guy, and a fellow Vancouverite! The place is very chill and fun to hang out at. Recommended when in Vientiane. |
64 /100 The Beer House ???????? (Bar) RUE DU PUITS VIENTIANE LAO PDR A pretty cool place that feels like a little house - the main area has almost 200 Belgian bottles (including lambics like Boon and 3 Fonteinen), and 8 taps (all Belgians). 25K kip for 25cl pours, 35K kip for 33cl pours, and 45K kip for 50cl; the also advertised 15K kip for a 12.5cl pour on the board, which I ordered, but then they brought me 25cl pour saying they don’t do 12.5cl pours (then why advertise it? Erase it from the board then). There are several small rooms to then sit in to quietly and comfortable enjoy your beer. Cash only, but they accept baht, USD and kip (as most places here do). Owner is Belgian, but hands off and not overly friendly. Worth hitting when in Vientiane. |
80 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) Facing the mighty Mekong river, this cafe is a real gem in a country dominated by a single brand (Beerlao). For a Belgian-beer lover like me, it was an oasis, full of the precious liquid and many labels I havent seen before. The bartender, a French guy whose name I forgot, was really friendly and helpful. They lent me pen and paper and provided me with a bucket with ice in which I could keep my Triple Imperiale Abbaye des Rocs cold. Excellent choice in Laos, if not the best. |
56 /100 Déjà Vu Cocktail Bar (Bar) NAMPHU SQUARE cool trendy place right right in the middle of town, good location. Come there for the food and people. Mostly cocktails but they had some beer on tap |
64 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) Been here quite a few times and the selection is good for Laos but i feel it used to be better, they still have some great belgian beers, which is awesome. |
86 /100 The Beer House ???????? (Bar) RUE DU PUITS VIENTIANE LAO PDR The new coming on the Vientiane Beer lover scene, a nice cosy beer lounge or saloon , where is possible to taste more than 160 differents Belgian Beers. Between a beer store and a beer lounge , where you can find beers as Cantillon , 3 fonteinen, boon, de ranke selection or la Rulles... |
60 /100 Déjà Vu Cocktail Bar (Bar) NAMPHU SQUARE Came here because my hotel for the night was nearby .. I’m quite sure they sold beer Lao on draught .. |
82 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) Suspend reality and enjoy one of the world’s more incongruous Belgian beer cafés. Around 45 to 50 Belgian beers appear, in remarkably good condition, plus Beerlao. You will find Trappist beers from Rochefort (3), Orval (1), Westmalle (2) and Chimay (3), plus Duvel, Mardesous & Achouffe, Van Honsebrouck and the occasional rare gem – Bieken from Boelens on our visit. This was served alongside some pretty passable Belgian-style pub meals such as Gentse Waterzooi , Vlaams stoofvlees (carbonnade), saucissons met stoemp and a full Laotian menu. The staff speak French and some English. It’s not massively pretty but it is fab and the Tintin murals and mezzanine layout set it off a treat. Higher rating for rarity value. |
52 /100 Déjà Vu Cocktail Bar (Bar) NAMPHU SQUARE A trendy bar in the center of Vientiane with a large variety of drinks but also some beers. It is hard to find a good selection of beer in Laos but around the Nam Phu Fountain square you have some good restaurants and of course the Scandinavian bakery. |
66 /100 Chokdee Cafe (Bar) FA NGUM QUAY ROAD (BY THE MEKONG - CITY SIDE) Very nice place and probably the only one in Laos where they have a good selection of beers, mainly Belgian but I was very much surprised to find Twents Pils there. They serve Belgian and Loas style food. We had Laos style and it was the best Laab Chicken I had in over 3 weeks in the whole of Laos. Friendly staff of whome some speak French and of course some English. |
