74 /100 25 S MAIN STREET Located where Hop Alley used to be, Currahee brings some great North Carolina beers straight to Georgia. Interior is cozy but not cramped, with a few long tables and plenty of bar seating. Service was not the best, but the bartender did his best - so many places are understaffed these days. Beers range from above average to very good. This taproom does not have a lot of parking, but at least two MARTA lines have stops close by. Drop in if you're in the area and have an hour or two to spend on craft beer. |
74 /100 Miller's Ale House (Restaurant) 10750 DAVIS DR Visited this restaurant twice while in the area for business. My friends and I wound up at this place mainly because they seemed to be the only bar/restaurant in the entire area that open past 11pm. It must be difficult to find a place to drink in Alpharetta after hours. Miller's ambiance and feel seemed oddly similar to an Applebee's or Chili's. The bartenders we had were great. They kept the conversation and drinks flowing throughout both nights we spent there. The potstickers, loaded fries, mozzarella sticks and Bavarian pretzel were all pretty good, if not standard for an average chain-style establishment. |
82 /100 Smokejack BBQ (Restaurant) 29 S MAIN ST I cannot speak to the beer selection at Smokejack, as I was here from out of town on business and couldn't partake in an alcoholic beverage. Despite that, I feel the need to write a review based on the food alone. As Aurelius said, the barbecue is fantastic! I heard the burnt ends were good, based on a recommendation from a local resident. However, I couldn't pass on ordering the pork shoulder. Pair that with some collard greens and slaw and you've got yourself one awesome plate of food! Don't forget the fried pickles to start off the meal. They were perfectly fried, juicy and served with a fantastic spicy sauce. The iced tea caps it all off. The waiter asked me if I wanted a tea to go, and I asked how large of a container he was offering! Unfortunately, it was just barley larger than a toddler's sippy cup. Beggars can't be choosers, though. We sat outside in their small patio area on a beautiful early-May evening. The service was outstanding and all the food came out quickly. If you're in the area and want some good bbq, this is the place. |
76 /100 Taco Mac - Alpharetta (Restaurant) 4305 OLD MILTON PARKWAY STE 101 Your usual Taco Mac, long tap list, including local drafts. Flights (nooners) and bar food. Nice. |
76 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD A very good selection of beers, especially for a store that stocks loads of wines and other spirits. Friendly staff. |
60 /100 Smokejack BBQ (Restaurant) 29 S MAIN ST A decent cast of regional brews on tap. Right next door to Hop Alley brewpub. Holy crap, this is the best BBQ ever. Roomy, in the heart of old downtown Alpharetta. I *have* to stop for dinner here every time I’m in our corp offices. Parking across street and on side streets. Nice outdoor patio, sometimes they’ve got music. Get the burnt ends. |
62 /100 2855 MARCONI DR, STE 350 Kind of sterile, but games and a lounge area. Good deal on the ample samples and you get a nice crowler on the way out of the brewery tour. Friendly staff, decent beers. |
66 /100 Whole Foods Market Avalon (Grocery Store) 2800 OLD MILTON PARKWAY I always enjoy walking into a new whole foods and checking it out. This one is very nice with a pretty good selection of suds. |
42 /100 Whole Foods Market Avalon (Grocery Store) 2800 OLD MILTON PARKWAY Stopped by for a growler fill, but they only had 4 of their taps active. Nothing special, so I left. Not much basis for a review, I guess. The employee was very friendly, for whatever it’s worth. |
72 /100 Taco Mac - East Roswell (Restaurant) 2630 HOLCOMB BRIDGE RD A typical Taco Mac, lots of TVs tuned to sports stations, plenty of seating at the bar and tables and booths. Servers were doing the best they could when busy. Beer selection, as usual, is awesome. Food is Taco Mac typical, as in above average for bar chow. A must if you live or work in the area! |
74 /100 Mellow Mushroom Windward (Restaurant) 3070 WINDWARD PLAZA SUITE A This is one of the smallest MMs I have visited, so not much room for their typical heady decorations. Service is very fast and efficient, yet friendly and welcoming. Beer selection emphasizes local brews such as Monday Night and Sweetwater. Food is, as usual, fabulous -do try a tempeh hoagie on wheat! No beer right now, but I hope to return one day when I’m not working. |
34 /100 Shell - Milton (Beer Store) 3105 BETHANY BEND ROAD This is a fairly nice, clean, small gas station and convenience store. They have a pretty nice looking growler tap wall. The employee was eager, but didn’t know anything about beer. The bottle selection is pretty standard low-grade craft and lots of macro stuff. The draft beer is nothing that isn’t at every other growler shop. The prices are fair. It is refreshing to see a gas station attempting this, but it is not a place to go out of your way to visit. |
70 /100 2855 MARCONI DR, STE 350 Open, concrete floor area, with games scattered about. The mega-Jenga game was a hit. The bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. 9 taps, including the Double IPA, which is only out on Wednesdays. For $12, this is a pretty good session. I’d recommend stopping by if you’re in the area, and if you work in the area, it’s worth a stop after work. |
72 /100 2855 MARCONI DR, STE 350 Situated in a office park, the exterior has much to be desired. You go in and its pretty much what you expect. Huge open floor plan with not to much going on. Brewing is out back. The day that I was there they actually had 6 beers on which was 2 more than the previous. Which was nice. All beers are solid to very good. For $12 you get 6 nice pours. To boot they have free play on a rad pinball game, and Off Road Video game (hell yes). Couches and plenty of tables are scattered about. Must go if you are visiting the area. |
74 /100 2855 MARCONI DR, STE 350 Interior is mostly empty and bare-bones, but they just opened, so give ’em some time. They honor the people who gave them the most support on Kickstarter with a "wall of fame." Tapsters are friendly and helpful, and the tour was interesting. Right now they don’t have much on tap, but what they have is very good. Definitely worth $12 for six tickets and a take-home glass. Give them time, and they should become a respectable and popular microbrewery. |
64 /100 Total Wine & More - Alpharetta, GA (Beer Store) 380 NORTH POINT CIRCLE Box box wine, liquor and beer store. Extensive beer selection. Plenty of bombers, singles and six packs. They also do kegs. Great variety of domestic craft and foreign brews. Poor marks on service as I have encountered rude employees. |
82 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD Nice selection of beer. Great selection of singles and a few hard to find bottles. |
62 /100 Taco Mac - East Roswell (Restaurant) 2630 HOLCOMB BRIDGE RD Pretty standard Taco Mac. Nice bar area, and lots of booths. The server was very attentive, helpful, and enthusiastic about beer. Very large, but mediocre selection. The food is pretty standard. I mean, it’s Taco Mac, so you pretty much know what you’re going to get. |
80 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD Suburban liquor store in the Alpharetta/ Roswell area. Typical liquor store appeal. I found some liquors I’ve looked for for awhile. Beer selection is great. I didn’t find anything rare or hard to find. But their selection is solid for a smaller store. The staff was by far and away the most helpful I’ve ever encountered in my brew shopping adventures. Their prices are about the same as every other store. They did have several singles available so that you can purchase a smaller sample size before you get stuck buying some higher priced 4 or 6 packs. Nice place. |
82 /100 Taco Mac - East Roswell (Restaurant) 2630 HOLCOMB BRIDGE RD Sports bar with 100+ beers on tap and plenty of bottles. Wide selection, but you tend to see a lot of the same things over and over and not many rare items. Food is decent - bar food, tex-mex, and known for their buffalo wings. Good for families, too. A frequent hang-out. |
62 /100 Total Wine & More - Alpharetta, GA (Beer Store) 380 NORTH POINT CIRCLE Maybe it’s because I’m a 20-something beer drinker, but I’ve never had a good experience with a Total Wine. They had one full aisle of six packs, one full aisle of singles (pretty average selection), and two full aisles of various macro lagers, including rare grabs like Schlitz 1960s formula. Prices were average and there is no volume discount for anything except wine. One employee was attending the beer section, and he was helpful enough when approached, but quick to leave and wasn’t interested in doing anything but straightening up the shelves. Cashier was in a bad mood, wouldn’t engage in small talk, and was so absent minded that he asked to see my ID twice. Customer service clearly isn’t their strong suit, but they have some okay beers to choose from, at least. |
32 /100 World Beverage (Beer Store) 5840 GATEWAY DR Standard package store, with the beer in coolers in the back. The employees did little more than nod at me, until I wanted to check out. You would find a better selection at a good grocery store. The prices are fair. I will not be coming back here for beer. |
70 /100 Total Wine & More - Alpharetta, GA (Beer Store) 380 NORTH POINT CIRCLE Standard Total Wine. The employees were very friendly and helpful, and surprisingly attentive to the beer section. The selection is good, especially in the imports, and the prices are standard or better. It may not be the trendiest place, but it has a good selection, and good customer service. |
80 /100 Total Wine & More - Alpharetta, GA (Beer Store) 380 NORTH POINT CIRCLE Very good selection of beers, although there were some empty shelfs. Good american micros and some from overseas. Good service too. |
84 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD Looks like the kind of place where you’d get your checks cashed in bottles of malt liquor, bum wine, and Popov. The inside is crowded, but clean. The beer selection is rivaled only by Total Wine, and this place carries some extremely rare beers. Stellar selection of singles at decent prices with no volume discount. It was hard to even find cases of macro brews, which means that they are looking for classier customers. The staff were busy and never asked if you needed help finding anything, but were helpful enough if you asked, and were happy to make recommendations. This is a good place to shop. |
64 /100 Taco Mac - Alpharetta (Restaurant) 4305 OLD MILTON PARKWAY STE 101 Your typical Taco Mac - plenty of seating, lots of taps, lots of TVs - including one freaking huge one the size of a movie screen - all tuned to sports stations. Service was not the most prompt I have experienced at a TM; however, when I did get served, the waitress was very helpful. Food, as usual, is darned good - maybe not gourmet, but still superior to most bar food. This place is worth a visit if you’re going to spend time in the Alpharetta area. |
66 /100 World Beverage (Beer Store) 5840 GATEWAY DR A decent package store. They tout wine more than beer, but their selection of craft brews and imports is pretty darned good if not jaw-dropping. I saw only a few beers I have not seen before, but they have a good representation of local stuff such as Sweetwater and Terrapin. They have plenty of the industrial swill, but the craft brews take up the majority of the fridge space dedicated to beer. Personnel are alert and helpful. I was disappointed that they don’t break up six-packs, but that is their business. Prices appear to be reasonable. If you live in or near Alpharetta, go ahead and pay a visit. |
24 /100 5530 WINDWARD PKWY Large, dingy, and empty bar. The servers were friendly and attentive, but knew nothing about beer. One waitress, when asked what they had on tap, said, "You name it, we’ve got it." Apparently that meant Bud, Miller, Yuengling, Blue Moon, and Samuel Adams Boston Lager. The selection is very slim. The wings were very good, but most of the food is greasy pub fare. The prices are good. Overall, this is a good wing place, but not a place for good beer. |
24 /100 Red’s Package Store (Beer Store) 270 SOUTH MAIN STREET A few Sweetwaters, Newcastle & Sam Adams. Last resort only. |
66 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD Interesting location, but the interior is just a clean, standard liquor store. The employees were nice, but not overly helpful. The selection is good, but nothing outstanding. There were a few rarities and a lot of good bombers. The prices looked standard. Overall, this is a nice little store, and the best in the area, but nothing outstanding. |
38 /100 Top Shelf Liquors (Beer Store) 12872 ALPHARETTA HWY, SUITE 150 Small liquor store with a drive thru, which is nice, I guess. The employees are helpful, but know next to nothing about beer. The selection is a standard set of craft beers. An employee even admitted that you could get a better selection at Kroger next door. The prices are fair, but no singles. Overall, this is not worth the stop. |
74 /100 Total Wine & More - Alpharetta, GA (Beer Store) 380 NORTH POINT CIRCLE Another total wine. Lots of beer. Nice new store. Good prices. I’d rather go to Ale Yeah or other Atlanta beer stores |
88 /100 Taco Mac - East Roswell (Restaurant) 2630 HOLCOMB BRIDGE RD Awesome tap list, great bottles. Nice, clean new location and a bartender that knew his shit! A great location. |
68 /100 Taco Mac - Windward (Restaurant) 875 N MAIN ST, STE 306 Typical Taco Mac design. Just a basic sports bar, with lost of TVs and pretty noisy. The servers and bartenders are attentive, but not the most knowledgeable. The selection is large, but there are few rare or interesting beers. The food is standard pub far and wings, but not bad. I come here often, and will continue to. |
8 /100 Red’s Package Store (Beer Store) 270 SOUTH MAIN STREET Only Macros Available. DO NOT STOP. |
100 /100 Royal Liquor Store (Beer Store) 4305 STATE BRIDGE RD UNIT 109 Largest selection & the absolute best prices!! |
40 /100 Red’s Package Store (Beer Store) 270 SOUTH MAIN STREET Large, poorly lit store. Filled mostly with liquor and wine. The beer section is filled mostly with macrobrews. One shelf of mediocre bombers. The selection of craft beers is mostly standard, and the prices are normal. Overall, this is not the place to go for good beer. |
74 /100 Taco Mac - Windward (Restaurant) 875 N MAIN ST, STE 306 Definitely a typical Taco Mac, plenty of TVs tuned to sports stations but not too loud. It seems smaller than other Taco Macs I have visited, but it is no less appealing. They have the expected large selection of beers, with emphasis on craft brews and imports and plenty of locals. Waitstaff are alert and helpful, so I didn’t have to wait long for service or to find a place to plug in my laptop. As of writing this I haven’t had a chance to sample the food, but I imagine it is the same as any Taco Mac, above average for bar food. If you live in or near Alpharetta and love beer, definitely worth a visit. |
62 /100 Taco Mac - Alpharetta (Restaurant) 4305 OLD MILTON PARKWAY STE 101 Pretty standard Taco Mac. There’s tons of TVs everywhere, and a big projector screen on one wall. The server was friendly, even on a busy night. He was attentive and seemed fairly knowledgeable of beer. The selection... well, it’s Taco Mac. There’s plenty to chose from. Overall, this is just another Taco Mac, but they are always a good place to get good beer. |
54 /100 Beverage Depot (Beer Store) 3355 HIGHWAY 9 N Not a bad beer store. The clerk was friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is fair, but mostly six-packs. There is a single shelf of bombers, which are fairly standard. The prices are about average. Not bad, but I wouldn’t go out of your way to get here. |
86 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD Stopped in here on the first Sunday that beer sales were allowed in Alpharetta. Definitely seems like a typical suburban liquor store from the outside. They had a pretty good selection of bombers and the largest variety of bells & dogfish head that I’ve seen in GA. The prices seemed decent as well. Quite a bit out of the way if you are passing through. |
92 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD I have stopped here maybe a dozen times. Each time is better than the last! The newest releases are on the shelf. The high-end go to beer is there as well. They have a few shelves of singles to cater to us Beer Geeks as well. Prices are very competitive. SERVICE IS REMARKABLE. A+. I have not had a single visit to this place where at least one person has offered to help me. Even if I decline, we will still chat about the most recent beer each of us has had. Great conversations with the staff, each of whom do not know me as unclemattie (the rater). On my most recent visit, I was shown the new crop of Nugget hops that are growing on the side of the store. Just the day before, some local brewers asked to pick some of these for a single hop ale. To be named OCB Ale! When a store has a beer named for them, YOU KNOW THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING RIGHT in the name of beer. This store needs to become my new "to go to" spot. |
100 /100 Beer Necessities (Homebrew Shop) 9850 NESBIT FERRY ROAD My local brewery supply store. Amazing selection. They usually have the difficult to find white labs yeast as well. Great and knowledgeable staff. Highly recommended. |
68 /100 Taco Mac - Alpharetta (Restaurant) 4305 OLD MILTON PARKWAY STE 101 One of the smaller restaurants in the chain, but cleaner than some, and much better service than the average. Massive beer menu, with 90 on tap, some are rotated seasonally, and well over 200 in the bottle. They have a new menu since the last time I was in (some years ago), that is head and shoulders above the old one; still, it’s better quality standard bar fare. Moderate prices for the area, a great lunch place. |
90 /100 Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe (Beer Store) 12280 HOUZE ROAD I’ve passed this place by at least a thousand times (literally) over the years; it looks like one of the old, rather nasty NASCAR beer & cheap booze joints from a casual outside look, but has a moderate but excellent selection of craft brews, as well as an unexpectedly good selection of single-malt scotches and some other specialties. The service was simply outstanding, Tom (the owner?) is very passionate about craft brews, and enthusiastically took us for a tour of his selections the first time we were in. Word must be spreading about this place, he did warn that desirable short runs and seasonals sell out fast. |
76 /100 Total Wine & More - Alpharetta, GA (Beer Store) 380 NORTH POINT CIRCLE I enjoyed this place before they expanded their singles section, but now it is fun to make your mix 6 pack with their ever expanding variety. I would say that this is more of a wine store than a beer store, but the place has the best selection of beer if you are in the Alpharetta area. |
