74 /100 J. Miller’s a Smokehouse (Restaurant) 150 TOWNE LAKE PKWY J Miller’s is a small independently owned BBQ place on the edge of downtown Woodstock.
The food is good southern BBQ. I especially like the Black and Blue Brisket. They take their brisket and add extra char on the flattop along with some blue cheese. The wings are also killer. They have a small growing craft beer list that is dedicated to all Georgia crafts including everything they can get from Reformation brewery just a couple of miles down the road. With seven plus draft lines and half a dozen or more bottles they don’t compare number wise with the big multi-taps or the places in Atlanta, but for the Woodstock area they have one of the best local craft beer selections and a must stop for Reformation fans. |
76 /100 500 ARNOLD MILL WAY STE A Interior is a little sterile, but this is a brand-new brewery, so it will take a while for the love to settle in. It is quite open and well-lit, so it can accommodate a large crowd, providing tables and booths as well as a lot of standing room. Personnel are very friendly and make you feel welcome. They have plenty of parking, so invite your friends! Beers are tasty and very satisfying. |
78 /100 Barrel & Barley Craft Beer Market (Beer Store) 9010 MAIN ST Nice draft selection for growlers. They offer nice sized samples as well, although a limit of four per person with ID. Bottle selection is small, but of high quality. This isn’t a place you go out of your way because of the selection, but I will likely go here over Bullochs now since both are equidistant from my inlaw’s house. Very friendly and knowledgable staff. |
68 /100 Barrel & Barley Craft Beer Market (Beer Store) 9010 MAIN ST It’s Sunday, it’s quiet, so, why not stop in at the new growler store just on the edge of the downtown Woodstock area in the spot formerly of Brenda’s Flower (God rest her soul). Minimal parking in front and along the side, but on par with the rest of the downtown Woodstock area. Twenty taps available, some good choices, and the location is using a counter pressure growler filler. The bottle selection at this time is a bit limited, but a few goodies were spotted.
Nice to have a location within a couple miles and look forward to seeing them grow. |
52 /100 Barrel & Barley Craft Beer Market (Beer Store) 9010 MAIN ST Fairly new store and is improving each and every time we visit. |
80 /100 Bullocks Wine and Spirits Warehouse (Beer Store) 1050 BUCKHEAD CROSSING The huge size and warehouse-like setting may be daunting, but that means more room for plenty of good stuff. Beer is towards the back - in quite a number of coolers, and even better, a large island with at least a couple hundred different bottles of imports and craft brews. They have the usual industrial crud, but the emphasis appears to be on the good stuff. One man was quick to help me not only find some good beer, but also get me checked out. Prices appeared to be reasonable, especially on the Belgians, which tend to be spendy. Not far off Towne Lake, it is easy to spot, and parking is plentiful. |
42 /100 Dixie Beverage Outlet (Beer Store) 8507 HIGHWAY 92 Decent for liquors and okay for wine, but beer occupies one lonely cooler at the back of the store, and is almost exclusively bulk packs of macro brews. Top it off with a cashier who refused to stop talking on his cell phone to answer a question I had. Used to be good, but changed hands and went downhill fast. |
84 /100 Trickum Package (Beer Store) 3333 TRICKUM RD Due to Ga law, hard liquor must be sold in separate "package" stores, so the few that open for business have to focus on liquor to occupy a separate niche over grocery stores that sell beer and wine. Trickum package is focused mostly on liquor selection, with most beer being in coolers at the back. Most of the beers are macro brews, but there are some craft brews, mostly on a shelf by the front. Store manager is extremely friendly, remembers all of his customers, and knows his stock. He also maintains a decent selection of perry and cider, and offers insane deals from time to time ($4.99 for a 4-pack of Sam Adams Imperial Stout!) This is an excellent store, and would be the best if it carried more craft brews. |
84 /100 Luckys Beverage World (Beer Store) 610 CLAREMORE PROFESSIONAL WAY This is the best medium-sized liquor store in the area. Easy to navigate warehouse-like store that is hard to get in and out of (there is no driveway leading directly to the main road) in a friendly neighborhood. Since almost all grocery stores sell beer and wine, about half of the store is dedicated to spirits. The remainder is split between beer and wine. Their selection of craft beers is excellent, and outnumbers the macro beers significantly. Their staff is friendly and helpful, and knowledgeable enough to have some real conversations about beer (or anything else for that matter). |
72 /100 Luckys Beverage World (Beer Store) 610 CLAREMORE PROFESSIONAL WAY The focus of this large package store is on hard liquor, and the beer is at the back, but you can still find a good variety. They have plenty of local craft brews and imports in addition to the usual industrial lagers. The staff are helpful and apparently well-trained, and I had no trouble getting checked out quickly and efficiently. Though probably not the best beer store in the general area, it is worth a visit. |
76 /100 Taco Mac - Woodstock (Restaurant) 9020 HWY 92, SUITE 100 I visited when this place was quite busy, but service was still prompt and helpful. It is like a typical Taco Mac, plenty of seating, lots of TVs on sports stations, a long bar, and lots of beer. It was quite noisy, but not so I couldn’t hear myself think - it feels like a good place for yak and beer. Though I prefer stand-alone places, I am always happy to stop at a Taco Mac for a brew or two. |
84 /100 Taco Mac - Woodstock (Restaurant) 9020 HWY 92, SUITE 100 Decent, everyday American food menu. Great service. Frequent vendor promotions. Fun beer club encouraging regular customers to keep track of how many different beers they’ve tried, with chances to earn prizes, etc (now, if we could just get them all to submit ratings...) Extremely diverse beer list, on tap and bottled. Always a nice place to share a meal and some beers. |
96 /100 Luckys Beverage World (Beer Store) 610 CLAREMORE PROFESSIONAL WAY This place is rocks! I went in thinking it was a normal big liqour store and I would just get good pricing but it did not end there, the store help was super friendly and knowledgable and their selection was killer. Being a big beer drinker it was nice to see they had a huge selection of stuff, probably the best I have seen in a long time. Great job Lucky’s! |
100 /100 Luckys Beverage World (Beer Store) 610 CLAREMORE PROFESSIONAL WAY This is the place for craft beers! Lucky’s has added a new craft beer rack (warm) to thier sales floor. On top of thier already stellar cold beer selection, you can now find bombers from around the world! New beers are added every week. The employees at Lucky’s are very knowledgeable about the beer they carry and will special order beers upon request (if available). Happy Crafting!!! |
80 /100 Luckys Beverage World (Beer Store) 610 CLAREMORE PROFESSIONAL WAY Super solid bottle shop. Huge warehouse like style. All the beer, I believe is kept refrigerated. Two big walls of six-packs as well as a decent selection of bombers and such. It may be a bit biased toward American breweries but I didn’t mind a bit. I don’t think this place is quite well know for craft brews because I just picked up a case of 2009 Expedition stout. Cheers! |
100 /100 Luckys Beverage World (Beer Store) 610 CLAREMORE PROFESSIONAL WAY This is an awesome liquor store. Their prices are constantly lower than all of the competitors in the area. They have a huge selection of refrigerated craft beers. Combo that with their knowledgeable employees, and this place is amazing. |
70 /100 Luckys Beverage World (Beer Store) 610 CLAREMORE PROFESSIONAL WAY Stopped here while down near Atlanta recently. Haven’t visited many beer stores in Atlanta, so I am comparing more to what I can find here near Chattanooga. Pretty good selection of imports and craft beers. Mostly 4 & 6-packs. Prices were great compared to what I pay here. Saved significant $$$ on beers such as St. Bernardus, Unibroue, Great Divide Hercules, etc. |
