64 /100 Tap House (Bar) 16-18 EAST STREET Busy bar & restaurant in the centre of town with outside seating, 2 regular cask plus 2 changing cask's plus keg options, all from Sussex. |
70 /100 Piston Broke (Bar) 88 HIGH STREET A very quiet pub on my Saturday afternoon visit, but a very good range of Sussex beers to be found here, direct from the cask from the stillage behind the bar, others from handpump, plus keg options. Friendly service |
76 /100 Duke of Wellington (Bar) 368 BRIGHTON ROAD An enjoyable pub to spend some time, with a large Wellington Boot pub sign and old leaded windows. It's now formerly a Dark Star pub & owned by the former Dark Star director & brewer. A choice of 4 well kept changing Sussex ales, plus 1 regular Dark Star offering. Live music was commencing on my visit. Friendly service |
96 /100 Duke of Wellington (Bar) 368 BRIGHTON ROAD Excellent Dark Star pub serving three Dark Star ales (regulars & seasonal) and three guest ales as well as real cider and real lager. Very friendly locals and staff. Reasonably quiet on mid-week lunchtimes, but popular in the evenings and at weekends. Regular live music on Friday/Saturday evenings and often on Sunday afternoons too, with odd music events at other times (like ’Uke at the Duke’ on one Tuesday a month). Patio out back for those that like the fresh air.
Ales are very well kept and change frequently so plenty of choice. Crisps & nuts available although not cooked food, but this is available from the cafe nextdoor and they even let you eat it in the pub. |
