62 /100 trinkgut Knurra (Grocery Store) OBERSCHEIDSTRASSE 12 More or less a regular 'trinkgut' like most in this area. Has some more Altbiers (Uerige, Schumacher etc.) and a small (very small) shelf with craft beer with the likes of Schacht 8, Brewdog, Insel-Braurei or Bergmann, probably much less than some years ago. Staff is friendly, prices are the same as in every other 'trinkgut', lots of parking space in front of it and very close to the highway, so nothing to moan about. Not worth a detour, still a reasonable place to stock up on standard German ticks. |
74 /100 Hopfen sei Dank (Internet-based) BRÜCKSTRASSE 44 We ordered from these guys recently as we were keen to up our essential stocks of Duvel Tripel Hop and this was one of the more competitively priced websites. It is not a huge selection, however there were some local beers from the Ruhr valley area which has given me some new beers to try, furthermore there are other German beers from Bayern, in fact their website lists the following.
Bayern 32 beers
Ruhr 26 beers
Belgium 20 beers
Prices were good, we had 24 bottles of Duvel Tripel Hop and 12 local Ruhr beers in for 119 euros incl. delivery and deposits on the Ruhr beers, the delivery was very swift and it was well packaged.
It will not appeal to everyone as the choice is very limited, but for us it was great. |
58 /100 trinkgut Knurra (Grocery Store) OBERSCHEIDSTRASSE 12 Just an usual "trinkgut" outlet, at first sight; but on some wooden shelves on Your way to the exit (and the cashpoint!) You may find sometimes unexpected rarities at very fair prices (e.g. Fuller's Vintage Ale 2019 or Ladenburger Weizenbock). Not worth a detour, but a visit when You are in the area. |
28 /100 Edeka Burkowski (Grocery Store) ALLEESTRASSE 38-40 Yawn… Large - typical german - supermarket with a good selection of dried mushrooms and english potatoe-chips. Interesting or rare beers are not avalable, neither in the drinks-market at the first floor nor in the main grocery store. Suitable only for masochists. |
66 /100 Trinkhalle (Bar) HERNER STR. 8 Small shop/bar with minimalistic interior and a small serving bar. The bottle selection is quite international but still focused on German craft beer, some rarities can be found as well. Beers can be drunk on site or taken home, prices are a little high unfortunately. Usually no taps available, only for certain events I believe. Worth a stop if you are in the area. |
78 /100 trinkgut Knurra (Grocery Store) OBERSCHEIDSTRASSE 12 Classic trinkgut comparable to them all. A nice mix of regional and nationwide macros. Also offering some nice Bavarian and crafts. A good one to start your German tour with filling up your basics. Prices and service absolutely good. |
66 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Medium-sized, old-fashioned pub/restaurant in the city centre of Bochum, just a five-minute-walk away from the main station. Looks really nice and cozy, lots of wooden interior, some beer memorabilia on the walls and a neatly decorated area around the bar. Five taps and five bottles (three of them by Fiege) available, more or less the complete standard Fiege range without the specials. Friendly and attentive staff although it was pretty empty during my visit on a Tuesday afternoon. Prices are okay for German standards. Didn’t try the food but the menu looks pretty standard German, not even typical Brauhaus fare. Nice enough place for having a crisp Pils while waiting for the trains. |
42 /100 Edeka Burkowski (Grocery Store) ALLEESTRASSE 38-40 I assume this entry covers the supermarket on the ground floor as well as the bottle store on the first floor which can be reached via the parking lot. The selection of both of them is quite similar, mainly macro stuff plus a handful of Belgian standards and a small selection of Bavarian brews that can be found in many EDEKAs nowadays. The bottle store stocks a few more beers, prices are normal for this kind of stuff. Maybe a bit above average for a German supermarket, in combination with the bottle store nothing special though and not really a ratebeer destination. |
78 /100 Trinkhalle (Bar) HERNER STR. 8 Very nice place, friendly people, definitely I will back to this place if I will be in Bochum |
68 /100 Trinkhalle (Bar) HERNER STR. 8 Bar with no taps but plenty of bottles. Place was relaxing enough but I was a bit disappointed to find that it closed at 10pm when I was there on a Tuesday. Apparently frequently runs events, there was a Rauchbier tasting on when I was there. Staff are knowledgeable but appeared a bit stressed out. Pricing is somewhat uneven, I had a Geuze from St. Louis that was 3€ but then they wanted to charge me 10.50€ for a barley wine from De Molen. Would try it again but be careful with my beer selections so as not to break the bank. |
62 /100 Dilo Getränkemarkt (Grocery Store) GAHLENSCHE STRASSE 95 Rather large bottle shop which is easily reachable via the A40, with enough parking space available. From the outside, it looks like a standard Getränkemarkt, but this one offers a very interesting, untypical selection. Not only are there assumingly more than 100 different Bavarian brews from which I did not even knew quite a few, but there is also a wall with about 50 different and quite interesting craft brews. The usual macros plus a few locals (and proper glassware!) are available as well of course, accompanied by a decent shelf of a few standard Belgians. Prices are average (for German standards) and the staff doesn’t really care about you. Definitely worth a visit! |
72 /100 Trinkhalle (Bar) HERNER STR. 8 Good little bar in the centre, laid back feel with wooden benches and some other comfortable seating.
Varied mostly German selection, didn’t seem to have any tap beers sadly. You pick you own bottle and head over to the bar for glass.
Nice version of the modern up and coming microbar style of pub and much needed in this dour area for beer. |
66 /100 Trinkhalle (Bar) HERNER STR. 8 Basically, a part-time craft-beer bar in a former - this claims the local rag WAZ - kurdish café not far from the famous Bergbaumuseum and not less famous Haus FEY ; very simple or puristic interior , bare walls, large shop windows, simple furniture - plastic chairs and benches and table made of stapled together pallets -; one wall is covered by four fridges with glass doors, containing a smaller, but nice selection of belgian brews, german craft beers plus some local Bier from FIEGE and - God knows why - Stauder. Friendly and knowledgeable service. Prices are reasonable, but do not expect a bargain. Worth a detour… |
80 /100 Alles Gär-Bar (Bar) JOSEPHSTR. 2 Great part-time tap-room in a former worker’s pub in Hofstede, opening only one evening (every first Friday) a month; old fashioned interior, half street-corner pub, half student’s bar, lively atmosphere; well and cleverly chosen, classy selection with the main emphasis on drinkability, not on exclusivity… At the march session gems like Uerige Sticke, Schumacher 1838, Störtebecker Atlantik Ale, Girardin Black Label or Girardin Kriekenlambik - among others - were presented at - last but not least - very fair prices. Great destination… |
66 /100 Trinkhalle (Bar) HERNER STR. 8 Have been there before christmas last year. The bar is situated along the city center of Bochum, at a corner. The interior has got a students ambience, very puristic and kind of empty. The beers are along the tables in three or four fridges, which you can buy for taking home or for drinking on the premises. The selection is small, but hand picked. I especially liked to see the sour beers from Freigeist / Vormann and there were even Lambics available. Some Belgian brews, some local beers and some of the better German craft beers. We came in to get beers from 777 and there was one available which we got for free because it was past its time. Great service. The prices for the other beers were quite high, like the 0,5 l Vormann bottle from Sour Raspberry Porter for something around 7,50€ I guess. The atmosphere was nice and it is surely a good location for starting the night out. |
58 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Nice place in the city center of Bochum to enjoy some beer and hung around. The interieur is dark wooded but with lots of light and atmosphere. An inexpensive lunch card is available. The staff is yound, mostly students, friendly and nice. Nice spot to enjoy the Moritz Fiege beers but no must-visit when in Bochum (the beers are available in bottled versions in any drink store around as well). |
68 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Traditional middle-sized brewpub in the centre of Bochum. The interiour with its dark wood panelings creates a warm atmosphere. The beer selection is typical for the Ruhr region, with the exception of a decent Schwarzbier. Food (Geschnetzeltes Schwein mit Spätzle) was hearty and inexpensive at lunch time. Fiege is well worth a visit for those travelling in Bochum, particularly during the lunch time offers. |
68 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Really cozy pub, full of wood and with stained glass on the walls. Expensive (4 Euros a pint), maybe not with the right type of music for this type of place but ultimately pleasant. I wish more breweries had such well designed pubs. Oh, the pils was actually better here draught than from the bottle. |
52 /100 Dilo Getränkemarkt (Grocery Store) GAHLENSCHE STRASSE 95 Rather atypical to come across a Bavarian room in an otherwise typical Western German Getraenkemarkt. I dare say over 100 Bavarian beers, inkl. stuff like Pyraser, with Bavarian music playing in the background. Then out you go back into this cold, grey, dodgy place that German Gatraenkemaerkte usually are. |
58 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Visited on Saturday 27/04/13 around 5pm.
Fiege’s Stammhaus is situated on the rather unnatractive main concrete drag that runs down from the HBF and in to the town.
2 roomed venue, tradtional German wooden interior, fairly dark, ornaments and beer jugs on the shelving.
We probably picked a bad day to visit as there was some kind of farmers market/battle of the bands thing going off and the main street had been pedestrianised and was wedged with people, as was Fiege’s Stammhaus.
We sat on the patio outside and waited for quite sometime. Yes - it was busy but they didn’t bask themselves in glory in grabbing us a few beers. To be fair there were only 2 servers and on a day like this it would seem pretty fucking obvious that you need extra staff!
4 beers were available on our visit, all ok offerings, nothing too exciting.
A detour for the hardended German ticker, not for a casual weekend in NRW! |
58 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Nice interior decoration, and helpful and friendly service. The beers are really not worth the detour though (5 taps and 2 bottles). |
70 /100 Dilo Getränkemarkt (Grocery Store) GAHLENSCHE STRASSE 95 Big bottle shop where your Bavarian dreams come true. There are almost only Bavarian beers available and every now and then you find a lot of new beers, because they change their selection a lot. At the moment there are even some Belgian beers available, what is really rare in a normal German bottle shop like this. Prices are average, around one euro +/- per bottle. Staff is really friendly and parking is no problem. |
58 /100 Dilo Getränkemarkt (Grocery Store) GAHLENSCHE STRASSE 95 Larger Getränkemarkt in the western suburbs - not far from the a 40 motorway - of Bochum; quite a good selection of bavarian brews (by Ruhr standards) plus the inevitable macros from Veltins, Warsteiner and so on. Also seasonals available. Worth a visit when You are in town... |
66 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Visited twice in the end od December 2008. On one of the main streets of the shopping area in downtown Bochum. Nice place with good schnitzels. Staff good, though English was hard to use. One room available shielded off from smoking. Clean toilets. |
64 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 Nice, fresh and clean kneipe. The deco is nicely mixed modern and classic, quite cozy overall with some necessary brand marketing. The staff was friendly and pro altho only one person handled the whole place which meant some delays. My "innenstadt snitzel" was as good as it can, no complaint there. |
42 /100 Fiege’s Stammhaus (Restaurant) BONGARDSTRASSE 23 "Modern" brewery-tap on the original site of the Fiege-Brauerei. Not all of. the brewery’s beers are available in the pub, which looks like a mixture of a "classical" german brewery-restaurant (dark wood, stained glass and so on...) and a "modern" bistro. The young staff is sometimes a bit "tired" and does not know much about the beers, the food can hardly be called "far above the average"....... Anyway: a good place to sample the good Fiege stuff !
