46 /100 MICHAELSTRASSE 75-77 Oh boy, I have a problem with this one. The ambience was cold and impersonal, the Biergarten is a joke. The service was amazingly fast and efficient but also impersonal. The pork knuckle was fantastic. Really, you should pay Im Dom a visit just to try out that one. The beer was served too cold and it was everything but fresh, with the tartness destroying the flavour. And keep in mind that they only brew one beer. That they still fail to serve it fresh is unforgiveable. But that pork knuckle... |
68 /100 MICHAELSTRASSE 75-77 The interior decoration is not captivating, just real; but it’s enough to know that the brewery is 410 years old. The waitress speaks English and the service is very friendly, and she tries to help my questions. Unfortunately they brew regularly only one beer now, although it’s one of the best Altbier I had; apparently they brewed in 2013 a version of Altbier that was a bit stronger and sold in 1L bottles; they also brew the Gold, but it’s available in the biergarten in the summer or for groups in 10L partyfass only. |
70 /100 MICHAELSTRASSE 75-77 Traditional Brauereigaststätte in the centre of Neuss, across the Rhine, south-west of Düsseldorf. Good value food and a very nice Altbier. Used to make two other beers as well, but nowadays they brew Altbier only. Pils and Weizen are "Fernsehbiere". |
56 /100 MICHAELSTRASSE 75-77 Typical rhenish Brauhaus, but on a smaller scale. One medium-sized tap-room and a smaller side-room for non-smokers, half-panelled, not too dark. In the backyard - enclosed by bare walls - You may find something what is euphemistically called "beer-garden".
After a break of 35 years brewing resumed here in 2008. Two brews of very decent quality are offered here. Worth a detour - and - Düsseldorf is only a few kilometers away! |
