“Jess and I have been big fans of Marto since they wowed us with their sours at Extreme after we first moved to Omaha. We made a special visit to the brewery to check them out once COVID permitted. Really spatial brewpub with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Generous beer menu that really spans the gamut. Food was pretty good, but the dessert was great.“

“A nice new brewery. Location isn’t super attractive, but the beers are good, which is all that really matters anyway. A few of their beers were pretty special so I’m looking forward to picking up some bombers.“

“A nice traditional Irish Pub. Patty liked this the best of any place we stopped in this vacation. We were looking for a micro brewery in town that must have moved or shutdown, when we came upon this place. The looks of a nice old brick building that has been repurposed. We got there just before dinner time on a Wednesday and it was filling up fast. With most of the same old Irish beers on tap the Bartender suggested ’Cream of Wheat’! Wheat beer on bottom and Guinness on top. It looked and tasted great. Hit the spot!“

“Tasting room, no food. Has 8-10 taps, when I was there they had one "guest" tap with WestO (I forget which beer), one tap with Millstream Root Beer, and the rest being their own beers. Prices are typical, except that growlers are pretty reasonable, being $15 for low ABV beers and $25 for high ABV. A nice, clean facility, with a friendly and helpful bartender. The only thing that could be better would be if they offered some food, even just some snacks. Will be back.“

“Nice place, but no real interesting beer choices out of 40 taps. Food was wholesome, but not very different than an Appleby’s and certainly not interesting. The bartender who waited on me needs to realize that she should provide hospitality to all patrons, and not just kibitz with her friends and fellow employees. It appeared that was the normal way of conducting business here, which makes the reviews about Soho on Yelp and Trip Advisor that mentioned poor service believable. Nobody likes to be ignored.“

“The Diving Elk is a very convivial craft beer bar located in the pleasant 4th Street Historic District in downtown Sioux City. The interior is tricked out with salvaged barn wood and industrial style furniture and light fixtures. I really liked the copper top bar, the exposed draft tower, and the white tile wall with an enclosed gas fire window separating the kitchen from the dining area. The owner is very knowledgeable, open and friendly, and appears to be committed to bringing a top notch craft beer experience to the relatively isolated area of about 120,000 residents and he’s succeeding. They had six great beers from Surly on tap, plus Founders Porter and North Coast Rasputin Impy Stout. I thoroughly enjoyed the Heritage Farm pork chop that I ordered...the food that was served to the other patrons looked very good as well. I was very impressed that the place was packed on both recent weeknight visits. Four taps out of 18 were sold out on my last visit, which I feel is an indication that the local community is responding very favorably to this place which has only been open four months. It was quite revealing that the Soho Kitchen that is catty corner to the Elk was almost deserted by comparison. Recommended for visitors and locals alike. I would even suggest that this would be a great gathering spot for Ragbrai participants or a rest stop for weary interstate travelers on their way to or from Omaha, Des Moines, or Sturgis.“

“A really cool little place in a beer depraved city. Atmosphere is cool with great service. They have 40 taps.. Unfortunately I had most of them.. But a decent selection nonetheless. The food was really good too. Probably your only place worth stopping when in Sioux city.“

“Great store overall. Not a lot as far as locals or a mix-6 option, but lots of high quality singles, most in larger format bottles. Prairie Artisan, 3 Fonteinen, lots of Mikkeller and Evil Twin, Jester King, Upright, Stillwater....and many, many more. I was over $100 before I knew it and had to cut it off, but it could’ve been worse (better?). Prices on some things seemed reasonable, others were pretty outrageous compared to stores in other states - might be local distributor pricing on some of that stuff.“

“Great little liqour store. Decent selection of beers and wine. Great selection of Bell’s brews, expidition stout and two hearted ale are about as good as beer gets especially with the limited selection western iowa has. Very friendly service, always willing to look into getting new beers. Pricewise their decent, could be a little cheaper but you have to pay for quality. Overall great little store, they do a good job at getting as man premium beers as their little store allows.“

“It didn’t seem low level to me at all. I think for the space they work with they have an awesome selection of beers & are always willing to bring in new items when asked, if available to them. I have never been disappointed with their selection or service. They don’t have the space of a grocery store to carry everything but they definitely stock the best. I say overall 10 because for locally owned liquor store they do great keeping up on what is going on in the beer world.“

“Looks like a pretty basic low level liquour store. Fair selection of beer inside - mostly macros and major micro’s, a few local beers, and some inports - Belgium, England, and Germany mostly. Farily decent pricing. Apprently this is about as good as it gets around Siouxland.“

“Not bad for a Beer Store in the area it is located in. Actually from my experience it is the only real beer store in town worth going to . . .“

“If for some reason, you find yourself in Sioux City, Iowa and are looking for a good store for area beer, go to Hy Vee. They have a large (and seemingly expanding) selection of various Midwest beer, from Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa as well as a wide selection of European brewers. Bottles, samplers, and six packs available as well as single bottles.“

“Finally a place to get decent beer in western Iowa. I was very pleased to find several selections of Millstream, the only micro-brewer left in the state anymore. The staff were helpful and told me of the new belgian selections they get in frequently. Lots of beer from Colorado brewers, Boulevard, some German selections... For this area, this is HUGE! I was very pleased to find this place, as I stopped in on a whim, it looks like any other crappy liqour store in the area, but inside it holds a wonderful secret.“
