“Nice to have another beer option in Bethesda. But very bright and industrial, feels more like a sports bar. Good overall selection of local and international beers.“

“Nice spot in Bethesda. Killer hot dogs and good burgers too. The tap list is substantial but not particularly inspired. The 'biance is good but a tad on the sterile side. Kids are welcome, and my little rugrat amused herself running in circles for an hour while I plowed through ticks. I challenge you to do the 80 oz beer wheel - 8 ten-ounce pours. Bonus points if you do it with your kid there and your wife nagging, "Are you sure you should be drinking THAT much?" This is my life.“

“Worth a stop when you're in the 'thesd. Decent selection and several on tap so you can growl the hell out. Not particularly inspired, but they have a good number of beers. The mixed sixer shelf is questionable though. I saw some stuff that was 3-4 years past expiration. If nobody buys a bottle there, it sits there (cue "Sandlot" scene) FOR-EV-ER. Beer is hidden in the back behind the other stuff, but owns sizable real estate in this store. Prices are medium to high.“

“Huge underground location. Bar area is front-and-center when you enter the place, with some pool tables and other games off to the side. Really nice draft list - staff is nice the times I've gone. Beer list is updated regularly, so you know exactly what is on tap. I've only had some quick bar appetizers.“

“Visited after a late lunch on a Monday afternoon. The place was pretty much empty, but there were a lot of staff working. The tap list was fair, but their bottle list was more impressive. Very lengthy and lots of good stuff available. Their prices are unreasonable, though. The cheapest draft was $8 for a cream ale, but the rest went up to as high as $15 for a Lindeman's Peche. I only had the one beer and left. Service was good and the place was pretty cool inside. Just couldn't get past their prices.“

“About what I’d expect - It’s Rock Bottom no matter where you go I suppose. Food was fine and beers were pretty tasty - though I only ended up having two of their beers before I left. I may return again for a flight or two some day when I’m visiting friends up that way.“

“Good store in a pinch. Selection is deece but I did not compose a letter to my mom about it. The ambiance is nice (which is what we all look for in a beer store, right?) and the dude there is nice, but I would like to be able to mixed sixer everything. Prices fairly standard.“

“Huge sports bar like place with a very good, dare I say excellent, selection of local / regional beers on tap. They also have flights and the pricing and services are very good. So, a great addition to the neighborhood. The bottle selection while substantial is more generic but includes lots of gems for those from out of town.“

“A pretty standard pub. Nothing of interest whatsoever on tap, bottles or in cans. Might have been nice when added in 2011, but there are many better venues right around the corner.“

“Nice place near the heart of Bethesda. Place was a pretty decent size. Beer is hidden in the back. Narrow rows, but lots of craft beer - lots of local beers from smaller places too. Some beers in coolers, most on shelf.“

“Gulden Draak on tap and some other Belgian ales as well as a few ipa-types, but not a huge selection. Nonetheless, an oasis when attending a conference. Margherita pizza with prosciutto was tasty. Would come back even though it is pricey.“

“A very expensive bar in Bethesda with a pretty good tap list. Went here after work on a Monday and took good advantage of the somewhat affordable happy hour. Oysters were a buck a shuck as well, and good. Lots of bottles, with all the classic Belgians (seems the focus here). Some local stuff from the likes of Jailbreak, Denizens and others on tap and bottle. Good patio outside for summer. Friendly service.“

“Made it here mid-November. Moderately sized, but seriously packed place. Come here for the muscles more than the beer. However, there had just been a Denizens tap takeover the night before, so 4 of their beers were till flowing, one through a randall. Staff was attentive as they could be considering the number of people around the bar. Table service was very good, enthusiastic staff, or at least the people we interacted with, knew enough about beer and the specific beers they were serving, which was a nice change from many places that only know about the wine selection. It’s a bit pricy, but food is delicious and the selection is slightly better than expected. Don’t expect any shockers on the bottle list, it’s basically the higher-end Belgian selection at Total Wine with a few locals thrown in.“

“I met a friend who was in town on business and felt like a couple of beers close to his hotel (Bethesda Hyatt). Ambiance: Very nice. The lighting is soothing, the bar area inviting, and the place is spacious. The beer isn’t amazing, but very drinkable, and the food is upscale bar fare. The beer sampler was very generously proportioned indeed. Service: While not exactly a beer connoiseur, our waitress had a good grasp of what brews were the most popular, had sampled many things on the menu and had firsthand knowledge on what dishes were good and which were not as sought after. To be honest, the service was a bit slow and it took forever to get my second beer, however, the place was packed and the waitress apologized for the delay. I can deal with that! Selection: Beer-wise, most of the standard styles and well as a few seasonal ones were represented: stout, pale ale, light lager, octoberfest, scotch ale, and many others. Food: The pizza I ordered was fantastic! The crust was cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of brick oven flakiness, and the sauce and the rest of the ingredients were top notch. Also, the guacomole burger my buddy ordered looked fantastic. Value: The massive beer sample was only $5 and the food was reasonable. My friend’s burger (which he ate every bite of so it must have been good) was around $10 and my very filling 12" pizza was about $12. Perfectly priced! This would be a great all-around happy hour destination if you happen to be in the area. “

“Stopped in here randomly, two parking spots out front but a free lot adjoining that looks like it is for the car dealership. Apparently this is part of the same empire of Beer Wine & Co. / Food Wine & Co. which equates to hilarious prices that were evident in about 1 minute after stepping in. $19 six packs of not fresh Nugget Nectar, $17 six packs of Perpetual IPA. Lots of singles like Stone Espresso RIS, Sublimely Self Righteous, 120 Minute. Other decent six packs like Raging Bitch. Still, prices were ridiculous and half did not even have prices on them. I guess so you would be rung out and then stiffen in shock and not be able to decline. Scroll past.“

“Visited on a Friday afternoon. Small but pretty and well organized store. The employees were kind. Selection was very good for the size of the place (50/50 beer and wine) and they obviously knew what to stock, there really wasn’t much crap there. The prices however, were pretty outrageous on anything that wasn’t an everyday 6-pack. They have a selection of really nice bottles (they still had bourbon rasputin and bourbon old stock for example) but the prices were just crazy on those. I left with two bottles, one of which I found for almost the same price in a bar a few hours later.“

“In the yuppy part of downtown Bethesda. Next door to Mussel Bar, which is higher end and has a decent Belgian bottle selection. American Tap Room is an okay quality restaurant that happens to have maybe 10 taps and a bar in the front area. I also saw two Sierra Nevada taps and maybe a couple of Sam Adams. Everything else was macro or faux micro like Blue Moon. I definitely wouldn’t add this to ratebeer, but it might be nice to keep it here so that people know it is not a craft beer hangout.“

“This place has three locations. I popped into the Bethesda location because Mussel Bar next door was closed. It’s a very open space, corner location with glass on two sides, so lots of light. 10 micro taps and 10 macro taps, with something for everyone. New Belgium Snow Day was one while I was there, Allagash Black, other regional stuff. Manager went out of his way, staff were great. Food was excellent. Finally, a decent beer stop in the beer desert of Bethesda and Chevy Chase.“

“The entire visit was courtesy of Brad, thank you sir! Huge interior, "serving vessels" were visible everywhere, although I’m not sure if they brew here also. Service was slow, and there were only 3 customers and 5 visible staff. Beers were pretty uninspiring. Food was generic pub fare. Good student hangout I guess.“

“The Barking Dog is a typical bar, not really the type of place you’d generally see added to RB, and I honestly don’t actually know what it is doing on here. (I certainly didn’t add it). A two floor place where the upstairs tends to be a little more of a club/dance type of place, and downstairs is more of a bar. They have a good selection of beers for Bethesda ONLY because Bethesda bars have terrible selections of beers. A mostly macro tap selection with a few local offerings. Not a beer drinkers destination by any means, but when in Bethesda these days, it’s about as close to one as you might be able to find, sadly. “

“A little store across the street from Rock Bottom Bethesda, the staff is very friendly and chatty. They are open until 11pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends, which is an awesome plus. Up side to this place is that has really good prices. $9 Saison Dupont 750s, $9 6-packs of Flying Dog Raging Bitch. They have probably 70 different beers and an assortment of ciders. Probably 1/3 of the store is beer and 2/3 of the beer is craft. The other 1/3 being your BMC stuff. I found things like Bruery Mischief, Heavy Seas bombers, St Bernardus 6, Delirium, Boddington’s Pub Ale, Tennet’s, Hitachino Nest. Nothing spectacular but a decent beer store with good prices. Probably worth going to just pick up a Raging Bitch six pack.“

“Rock Bottom...it’s actually a pretty fun place if you know when to go. Later on Wednesday nights is trivia night and it’s a blast. Drafts are all generous English pint pours of their in house beer which is a blend of corporate recipes and in house recipes. Drafts are $3 a piece, which is insane value. Unfortunately, their isn’t too much variety. They keep 4-5 static drafts of their witbier (meh), kolsch (meh), IPA (decent), red ale (not bad). And they have a rotating dark beer, which you need to ask about or look on the chalkboard next to the bar to see exactly what they have. I’ve had a porter there and a Scottish export. Some of the beers are on cask and tend to be pretty good- better than their keg counterparts. Food is really not a strong suit- more like Applebee’s type food. Semi gourmet but mostly pre-made corporate dishes like you’d find at Olive Garden or Outback. So...its definitely worth coming in for trivia night and just playing around, but I don’t know if I’d recommend someone go here for a nice meal expecting some great house beers. It is certainly no Brewer’s Art.“

“Typical chain restaurant decor, though this seems a little older than the other location I’ve been to. I didn’t eat. I ordered a sampler which was dirt cheap ($3.50) though I was probably there during happy hour. The beers were of OK quality, some pretty good. The staff ranged from mediocre to downright unprofessional. Looks like parking could be tricky.“
