“Located in the old Trailhead Brewpub. Everything is pretty much the same except for a vastly improved beer offering. They have about 12 of their beers on tap. Service was good with a nice food menu to compliment the beers. Worth a stop.“

“Stopped in for the 30th Anniversary party. All on tap beers were on special for the day. Besides a name change to the building, everything is pretty much as it was when it was Trailhead. Changes included the food menu and beer selection. We shared a sandwich and had a few of their beers, service was good, and selection of both food and beers was good. Worth a stop if in the area.“

“Anyone who has been to Trailhead in Main Street St. Charles will be very familiar with this place. It looks exactly the same, except there are more beers on tap and better ones. The menu looked great, they had about 12 taps, when I went it was mostly their lighter offerings. Smart move by Schlafly. This place will do well.“

“The OG brewery in St. Charles county. Really more of a restaurant, the food is really good, they have about 6 of their own beers on tap. All basic styles, nothing wild. Not my favorite now that craft beer has exploded but I still like it for nostalgia's sake.“

“Stopped in on a Sunday afternoon, about eight other folks in the building. Not a lot of seating, but plenty for around 50 folks or so. There were close to 100 taps, lots to choose from. As mentioned, beer only, you can fill growlers to go and the menu looked decent. There is a window at one end of the bar to view the several kegs that are either tapped or in line for the next opening. Location is easy access to highway 370. On my way home, so convenient stop when something new/interesting pops up. Not all beers are able to be included in the flights, not sure their reason holds water, but their call. Worth a stop if in the area.“

“Located in a strip mall just of highway 370 next to a Sonic and not far from Sugarfire BBQ. Atmosphere is fairly bland with fair amount of chrome and glass. All they serve is craft beers. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the beers. There is a good selection of beers with a number of local brewers on tap. Service was good and there is a respectable pub grub menu, As the name implies they offer growlers to go. They also have sampler flights available. Worth checking out.“

“Located in a strip mall near Lindenwood University that can be a bit hard to find. The had two of their beers on tap with eight guest taps to choose from. They are very knowledgeable about the beers and are very friendly. There are a number of pinball and video games around the walls to test your skills. Worth checking out.“

“Stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, nice crowd, plenty of room to sit and enjoy a beer or two. They only had one of their beers on tap, but had eight other guest taps. The arcade games are on the outer edge of the building, leaving the middle of the building with large tables that seat six or more. No food, you are allowed to bring food in. With all the games and the music on, it did get a little loud, you can still talk, just not in a bigger group. Worth a stop if in the area.“

“Visited on a Wednesday evening. Strip mall type location, a bit run down looking from the outside. The beer is selection is split between cold (6 doors of a fridge, mostly large bottle format beers) and warm beer selection spread around in a few different places. Perhaps a total of 6 racks. Solid selection of local beers, national craft and imports. Single selection is warm in the back corner, and had a solid array of beers, particularly Urban Chestnut. The selection of 2nd Shift 750s was also notable. Worth the stop, though would like to see more of the beer stored cold.

70 = ★★½ (Locals should check it out, visitors with extended time)

I only use the total score, not the component parts.“

“Located not far from Lindenwood U in a strip mall. Not very fancy, but they do have a decent selection of beers that has expanded in the last couple of years. Good number of German and Belgian beers and a growing selection of domestic craft beers. In the back you can build your own six pack. Beer cost just a tad more but is fairly close to home.“

“Nice place in historic St Charles. It’s hard to believe this was originally a bank. There is a good selection of beers to choose from incuding cask ales from England. The pub fare menu is above average. There is always seems to be a new beer or two to try. Worth checking out if you are in the area“

“Down in the basement of the restaurant in Old St. Charles. This place screams culture and is a great place to grab a few brews. No taps just bottles. It’s a smoking bar so be prepared-it can get gray in there.“

“Visited on a weekday night. Freeway location in front of Walmart. Fairly busy so I sat at the bar which had 5 nice TV’s with several different sports. The draft beer list was basically two different lists-one side had about 30 Missouri beers and the other mostly BMC with a few micros thrown in. The food menu was your basic pub-grub. My burger though was big and juicy and plenty enough for a meal. Service at the bar was excellent. More of a sports bar but the Missouri beer selection is worth seeking out if you’re on that side of town.“

“Have eaten here many times. Fair selection of beers - imports plus local micros. Also recently started selling growlers. Food is good and reasonably priced. A little better food than your typical Irish pub type place. In the nice area of historic St Charles.“

“The beers were drinkable, except the Pumpkin Ale. Yuck. The food was alright - though my hamburger was far overcooked. Even so, the best place that I’m aware of in St. Charles for beer, and nice to get some that I wouldn’t have otherwise tried. So, it was a win. But I wouldn’t make much of an effort to go back.“

“This is a converted steakhouse that looks like a typical sports bar with lots to TV screens. However, there are 65 Beers on tap to choose from. About half of the taps are set up for local and MO craft beers which is nice touch. If you are not sure what to have you can order sampler of 4 beers. There is a pub grub menu that has a nice selection and variety to work from. Service can be a bit spotty, as one time the service was spot on and the server was very knowledgeable about the beers and the next time the server was not very responsive to any of the customers. Worth checking out if you are in the area.“

“For me a 78 is a very solid score. I cant take anything bad away from this place. situated in an old lonestar steakhouse building (you can tell from the design). 55 beers on tap, almost half of them were MO beers, both local and statewide ones. the others were various regionals. Service was fantastic! very prompt and friendly. Food was just above average-beef brisket was more like roast beef with bbq sauce on it. Didnt really care for that much. Overall, i would say go to this place if your in St Charles county or driving through (just off the highway).“

“Stopped by on a Friday evening, lots of families. Multiple tv’s covering various sports. The food selection was great, would definitely come back and try other meals. The beers, well 65 taps, with a wide array of styles. Most of the taps are locals, which is great to see. Our waitress knew most of the beers, and would ask the bartender if she was unsure of a particular beer. They had a huge bottle selection as well. It was worth the visit, and I hope to return soon.“

“We usually stop by on Wednesday’s after work to try the ’Brew you never knew’. A different brew each week, usually an in-state brew, but at times they bring in some excellent brews from out of state. The food selection is also excellent along with the service. When the weather is nice, the outdoor patio is large and provides a great view of the river. Will definitely be spending lots of nice evenings on their patio.“

“I had an absolutely killer pizza and some god awful brews here. Everything tasted very homoginized. Nothing really malty, nothing hoppy. Just sort of bleh. The tanks surrounding the dining room are cool to look at. It was very obvious this was a restaurant using craft beer as a niche. I would look elsewhere if in St. Louis.“

“Very cool building in great little main street that St. Charles has. Went with the wife and kids and they sat us in a basement room so did not get a great feel of the bar area but it looked nice. Only 6 beers on tap and all were average at best. Food was a little disappointing but the pizza was better than expected. Service was a bit lacking. Kind of a tourist brewpub. Worth a breif stop if working in the area, but there are too many good breweries in STL to make a trip out to this place.“

“My wife and I visited here on Memorial Day after riding a segment of the Katy Trail. The location is as good as it gets in St. Charles, right down along the Trail and riverfront in the old historic district. The building itself is really cool on the backside, which is an old brick wall with a water will facing a stream, but the entrance is newer and bland. The interior is split-level, with a rectangle bar area upstairs and some dining rooms downstairs and on the sides. Pretty big. There was a single bartender handling lunch, and she was good. There are 5 permanent taps- Missouri Brown, Trailhead Red, Riverboat Raspberry, Trailblazer Blond, and the Old Courthouse Stout on Nitro- plus 1 rotator, so there’s not much unexpected here. The Maibock was on when we visited. The food is decent, pretty much average American pub fare. The beer itself is below average, nothing special at all. For that reason, and the distance of the place from where I live, I don’t have a reason to return. That said, it’s worth visiting if you’re out here because there aren’t many other options and it’s a good place overall.“

“A decent selection of some items, but lacking in other areas. Service was good, although you can pretty well go through the beer aisles in a few minutes. Prices are a little higher, due to the lower volumes of beer. If you are in the area, definitely worth the trip. You never know what may be on the shelves.“

“This is a great little find in northern St. Charles, MO. This looks like your normal liquor store, but inside you find a very nice selection of craft beers. The owner is also very knowledgeable and can help you find what you are looking for. Prices are about average for most beers as well, so you won’t get ripped off on anything you buy.“

“The bar is very small, and can be really smoky, so stay outside if that bothers you. It reminds me of an old bar in someone’s basement. I haven’t eaten there yet, so I can’t comment on the food. The patio is large and nicely landscaped. It’s the perfect place to sit outside with friends or someone special and enjoy the weather/view/beer.“

“I go to this place more for the food than for the beer. I like the Porter and the Brown Ale. The Amber used to be better, but has declined the last couple times I’ve been there. My brother raves about the Rainbow Red Ale, which has a fruity finish. (I’m not into fruit beers.) The food is excellent, from the crab & artichoke dip to the fish & chips to the BBQ Chicken Pizza to the Salmon. If you can’t find something you like on the menu here, you are just too damn picky! The service is usually good but not great. Lunch service tends to be better as it’s less crowded. They have two smaller patios full of tables that are nice if you can find a table there. The patios also have ceiling fans and heaters to help when the weather isn’t perfect. You won’t find any incredible new beers here, but you will find a few decent ones to be paired with some great food. Try hitting this place before you go to the Casino.“

“Good selection of food. Very good selection of brews. Was very impressed with their assortment of brews, really trying to do well. Would definitley go back for another visit. The bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful with their selections. They try to grab the seasonals, to give all a taste of some different brews. Great outdoor seating, would visit again.“

“(Visited 05/2009): The Old Millstream Inn is located Main Street in St Charles along the Missouri River, and is right next to Trailhead Brewing as a matter of fact. There is some street parking and a couple of lots. The building is 2 levels, with the top floor being a restaurant and the basement the bar. There is also a large patio with a nice view of the river. The bar is dark and pretty small. Lots of worn wood and breweriana around. There is a cooler behind the bar which offers a good view of all the available beers. The big minus is rampant smoking in the confined space. As for the beers, there are no taps and about 100 different bottles. Many regional and better-known domestics are represted, such as Rogue, Stone, O’Fallon, Schlafly, etc. As for imports there are several countries represented by brewers like Kasteel, Ayinger, Delrium (Huyghe), etc. The barkeep was friendly and had a good grasp of the beers. While I was there thay had a professional photographer taking pictures of all their beers to be displayed on the website. The food at Millstream is pretty good. I had a French Dip and fries, although they were out of their specialty fries during my visit. Overall given the hit or miss quality of Trailhead’s beers, this place might be worth a look in the St. Charles area since they have a good selection of brews and a great scenic view outside.“

“The Trailhead Brewing Company is located in "Historic" St. Charles and is a nice fit to the community. It is also close to the Ameristar Casino. The main bar is at the head of the staircase with dining areas set off on either side. The menu has a good variety and is priced fairly average. The service is generally very good but once in a while it’s not quite in sync. They normally have 5-6 regular beers on tap along with 1-2 seasonal brews. The beers for the most part are generic & unoffensive to their style. If the beer was a bit more robust or flavorful I would probably stop in more than 1-2 times a year.“

“Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised with the facility. A very short drive off I70 with plenty of parking across the street and a couple of blocks away. It sits right across from the Katy Trail cycle route and from the Missouri River. A nice rustic building and good food that is reasonably priced. Beer was $4 per pint and they have 6 of their beers on tap. I wish the beer was better here and if it were I would go more often.“

“The good news - it’s still just $2.50 a pint! The bad news - everything else. In a cutsey part of tourist driven St Charles (right on the brick streets) - the beers are completely uninspired - brewed because they ’should’ have fresh beer.“

“Average beers with decent food. This place was very loud on a Friday night visit. The parking is suspect in this touristy neighborhood. we had a friendly waiter that knew his stuff about the beer. the best thing I tried was a winter style lager. I would skip over this place and hit one of the other brewpubs in the St. Louis area, but may be worth a stop if you are staying in St. Charles or Earth City as I was.“

“Definately not the norm for liquor stores. Prices are a little higher than usual, however the selection is quite vast. A large selection of 5L German mini kegs, and a large selection of Belgian’s by the bottle or 4 pack. Bring your pocketbook, you’ll need it for a trip here.“

“Bottom line avoid this place. Go about a block down and go for a walk and enjoy the views of a really quaint part of St. Charles or hike down the biking trails. Not crazy about my experiencehere. They are trying to have an upscale image and obviously the owners or management have come from a strong chain background. It comes across as a chain without being one. Slightly snotty staff, with an emphasis that is not really on the beers. which are well made, but simple and sompletely average at best. Typical yuppy crowd, simple beers, and food for simple people. Drive on into town and go to Buffalo and have a better experience.“

“Wow! What a dive. Looks like a Quickie Mart in the rough area of town from the inside... on the outside it looks like a cheap booze store in a strip mall. Still, they had an interesting selection of imports and the like, but not really anything too fun. A bunch of oddities from different countries (picked up bottles from Ukraine, Latvia and Lithuania) and some lambics and the like that may still be on the shelves in ten years.“
