“I feel honoured whenever I rate a place that Boudicca has visited, knowing that she has likely gone well out of her way to get there, while chriso is likely at some beer festival somewhere, ticking away. This is another slightly scruffy place in a 1980s time warp. Not sure they still use the rather attractive brewhouse equipment in the front window, since I believe they have a production facility elsewhere. Anyway, sat at the bar and drank an oatmeal stout that I didn't order because the hard of hearing barman that that's what I said; I really just wanted to see the menu. It was tasty, though, so no harm no foul. Food was OK, ordered from the half price Cinco de Mayo taco menu; they were not worth the full price. Empty exterior sidewalk patio on a gorgeous 20C day, not sure why. Unimpressed.“

“Large sports bar type place on a main drag. A bit 1980s, maybe slightly scruffy, but fun. It was trivia night and I was surprised to see that one of the two bartenders had to run it. Still, service was quick and efficient. Not as loud as most trivia nights, which is usually my most common complaint about them. Taplist is huge, and there are lots of cans to drink in or take cout. Beers were tasty enough with a good range of styles. No food. I sat next to a bunch of professional hockey players and their gorgeous girlfriends and fed them a few old-people answers to some trivia questions; the goalie was amazed that I knew where his home country of Latvia is - "Americans usually don't." Decent place, worth a look.“

“This was my back-up place since Davidson's was closed. Nice space, large L-shaped bar up front, which is where most people were eating dinner. Dining room behind it seems very private. A dozen beers on tap including a handful made by local breweries; good selection of styles. Barman knew the beers well and had good recommendations. Food was tasty. Advertised as fine dining, but it was actually very informal and maybe a bit ordinary. Prices were a bit high, though, so there's that. Good backup plan anyway.“

“A nice brewpub in the main street. The brew kit is at the front and looks good - all wood and copper - and the bar area is attractive too. There were twelve taps with generous samples available plus (importantly for me, as I was driving) a full range of nice fruit juices. (Visited 8 November 2012).“

“Stopped in here on our way back from VT. Interesting set-up for sure. The are located just off of a bike path, so locals can pedal here, which is nice, In the restaurant part, we sat at the bar. Only other customers were located outside on the patio. We didn’t try the food, but my wife got the soda sampler, and I have to say, their sodas were better than their beers. Of the 6 beers I tried none were better than okay. Bartender was friendly enough, though she was training someone and kept disappearing for long stretches. Store out front for growler fills, and an ice cream shop around the back as well with 300+ flavors of soft serve. Since the ice cream and the soda were better than the beer, it seems like a good place to take the kids and still be able to at least drinking something house brewed, even if it isn’t of the highest quality.“

“Not a bad place. Stopped on way back from lake placid. Cool building there was football crowd downstairs so we went up for food. Food is pretty good and service was friendly. Beers are just ok but there is 12 of them and samplers are sweet.“

“Visited: 10-25-11 I came to Davidsons while in Lake George for work one evening (and ADK Brewing was closed) and this was the closest brewoub in the area. The atmosphere is good as the building has that old style early 1900’s brick building appeal, about a dozen spots that bar and about 20 tables downstairs and upstairs seating too. The service was decent as the bartender was attentive at times and stopped by several times while eating to check on me. The selection of beers were decent as they had a wide range of beer (12 different styles on tap, all in house). The quality of the beers was mediocre as most of the beers werent properly carbonated and most of the taste of the beer were mild (at best). The food was average as I ordered a burger and fries (burger was ordered medium rare and came medium well) but was okay although not seasons at all. I got a burger and sampler for $23 which is about average for what I normally see. Overall, this place is okay for food, beer is under carbonated, but the service was decent. Other than the under carbonated beers, one of the brewers was sitting at the bar bitching about the employees ... which is not the right place to do it.“

“A solid brewpub in the small town of Glens Falls in upstate NY. A fairly standard pub on the inside with plenty of outdoor seating as well. The staff was friendly. One of the owners came up and introduced himself to us, asked us a few questions. The beers were good, but not great (the fresh hopped IPA was pretty good). They do offer samplers. The food was a notch above standard pub grub (I liked my turkey brie panini). The dessert sampler was disappointing though. Overall it was a worthy stop, though I wasn’t blown away.“

“Stopped in here because Davidson brothers was closed for construction. An interesting building with an odd cave like entrance. Nothing special on the inside. Server was friendly albeit not particularly knowledgeable. The beer were sub par IMO and I did not sample the food. Prices were low.“

“Davidson Brothers has solid food, solid beer, and it is a nice little place to stop and eat if you’re in the Glens Falls area. They’re miles ahead of the local competition (Coopers Cave), and the staff is great.“

“It really is a shame that Coopers doesn’t have better beer because the food here is GREAT! Tucked away on Sagamore Street, Coopers Cave is a TV-free, relaxing place to grab a bite with friends. I’d only go for the food, not the beer.“

“Visited the "cave" on a trip to a school conference to Lake George. The spot was recommended by the conference’s director and I was happy that I made the visit. On the outside, it looks like an old warehouse, but the inside is smallish, but cozy. The service was fine and their food is fresh and tasty. I had the spiced sirloin and mashed potatoes, which was tasty, and my friend had the black bean burger which he loved too. The beer isn’t the best, a bit on the watery side, but they keep their beer fresh and you gotta give them credit for having 10 different beers on draft despite its small setting. They also sell growlers (12.75 each), so bonus points for that. Based on the food alone, this place is worth visiting if you are in Glen Falls.“

“Only visited the store, did not try the restaurant, which has a separate entrance. Anyway, the store had a variety of beers available in growler or bomber, in most cases both. Unfortunately, the beer I most wanted to take home was only available in growler at the time. The beer really isn’t much to write home about, but there was a pretty good selection of styles, and the prices on bombers were very good, from $3-7. It’s a bit off-topic, but the pops (or sodas in this part of the country, as I was reminded) were good to great. The only exception for sodas was the sugar-free root beer, which was really only lacking because of its lack of any sweetness at all, so kudos to Cooper’s for being brave enough to not use artificial sweeteners in that. So that’s definitely a reason to come here even if the beer is just average.“

“A wonderful find in Glen Falls with a sizable patio and a very rustic interior - except in Summer as there is no A/C. Fine array of craft beers given the very small space allowed for brewing. Great food and excellent service. Always stop by on the way up to Vermont.“

“A little run down looking from the street, but a great comfortable spot that had a nice tap list going for my visit. I went with their pick your own sampler and enjoyed all of the beers I sampled with the stout and porter being two real standouts. Big menu, with some interesting options. Appetizer, soup and entree were all above average to very good pub food. Friendly service. Growler was a bit pricy.“

“Excellent. Just flat out excellent. Stopped in here on the way back from a trip to Montreal, and had gone based on the recommendations on this page... and was very happy with the choice over a few others that would have been along the way. Good sized crowd downstairs at the bar, so we headed to the upstairs bar. One of the brothers (I’m guessing, didn’t catch a name) was one of the first to greet us, and was jovial, social, and with a great sarcastic wit. Ended up going through 2 of the (very well priced) samplers, with 6 5oz pours of your choice, plus a 10 oz of their special limited offering of a vintage strong ale brewed nearly 10 years ago. That in itself was worth the trip. Rest of the beers ranged from decent to pretty good. Food was served very quickly, and was also quite tasty. Highly recommended.“

“Excellent food, excellent selection, excellent service. If in the Saratoga Springs area, definitely worth a stop. I sampled the tripel, smoked porter and IPA. All three were enjoyable. The food is restaurant food.“

“Located about a mile from Davidson Restaurant and Brewery. The location itself is nothing much to look at. They will give you 3 samples if you ask and also have a walk in cooler. Service is questionable at best and the person filling growlers will give you an attitude and a nasty look if you bring your own growlers. Unless you’re a completist, it’s best to skip this place.“

“Great setting, inviting interior and nice large patio. Inside atmosphere is halfway between a pub a countryside restaurant. If you’re lucky (or unlucky) the owner/brewer will come to your table and give you his well rehearsed speech on “beer quality guarantee” (if you don’t like his beer just tell him and he will drink it for you). Quite funny actually. I liked the dude. 8 taps when we were there. Unfortunately the beer were at best ok (Double Hop IPA, Oatmeal Stout) to pretty bad (Scotch Ale). Food was a mix-bag too. My grilled chicken was so-so, the sweet potatoes were cut too thin but the Cheddar Stout Soup was nothing short of spectacular. I repeast: worth a visit if only for the Cheddar Stout Soup.“

“Nice sunny patio section. Great old bar, The brewery kettle had a brick façade built all around it, the tanks had wood paneling. If you only took a quick look, it looked ancient and nice, but if you pay a little more attention, it’s not very clean, it was covered with dust and cobwebs everywhere, fine and dandy when you’re brewing lambics, but maybe not so when you’re doing mostly British/American styles. The Beer list was posted on a large blackboard next to the bar, listed with %ABV and brewed on date, a fantastic idea! Beers were on average 2 months old.I went for the double IPA, so did most of the gang. I’ve had pale ales that were hoppier than this, and there was very little body to speak of. Those who chose something else weren’t impressed either. Our food came quickly and the soups absolutely floored us. My main course of crab cakes was okay but I’ve had better and cheaper. The citrus sauce it came with didn’t match too well. Those who took the bean burger liked it, the salads were fine and the chili was good but not great. So what’s the final verdict? I certainly didn’t hate the place, the overall ambiance is friendly and fun, and I should have asked for a growler of that soup, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get here just for the Beer.“

“The staff, the beer, the food and the venue areOutstanding. I travel around a bit and Richard has got to be one the most gracious host in the brewpub world. You gotta love his motto" If you don’t like your beer I’ll finish it for you" This is a must visit.“

“By far one of the most friendly, service oriented restaurant I’ve been to. When we arrived we were greeted by Rick Davidson, brewer/owner, he expidited our beer orders from the bar as if we were VIP invitees. He the gave us the "beer guarentee" and escorted us to our table. The service continued throughout the dinner and out the door. As we left Rick came back up to us to see how we enjoyed ourselves. Service was suberb......NOW ON TO THE BEERS. I started with a smoked porter which was very good. It was well balanced with only a subtle hop hint in the finish. The Belgium Tripel was exceptional, the fruity notes were perfectly balanced with notes of banana. The cream ale was also a good call, very creamy and well balanced. Several others in our group we pleased with their selections. Overall "2 thumbs up" “

“Visited on a Saturday night. Bustling dark bar and brewery with view of the brewery in the front. Had a nice sampler platter of 6 beers. 5oz samples were given. Beer was well-made and the chili was ok. The fries were above average and better than Pittsfield’s. Staff was average. A decent place with above average food and above average beer.“

“Visited this place on a Saturday night. I was shocked when I got there. I expected the people and service to be very nice. When I got there, the 50 something lady was in a very crabby mood. She was extremely negative and condescending. I asked if they go to any festivals or anything and she snapped back at me saying "they are a waste of our time and money. Until they pay us like they do out West, we aren’t going to do them any more". I was very turned off by this and I almost walked out. After 2 of my 3 allotted 1 oz samples, I decided I’d buy a bottle of their 80 Schilling, which they did not have in bottles. It may have been a bad day, but she turned one tourist from CT off.“

“Stopped by on a hot August evening. First tried their pop (outstanding) and ice cream (outstanding) in a float. I had the soft serve because the girl at the window said it was best, but others in our party had the hard serve and it was just as good. Walked around to the back (front?) and tried three beers, two of them incredible, the other was fine. A variety of humorous souvenirs for sale, too. Worth the stop.“

“Stopped by on a hot August day and sat inside, despite the fact that the place was not air conditioned. Service was a little slow considering the place was empty but was friendly and very helpful. Ordered the six beer sampler and a sundae. Ice cream was excellent, but perhaps biased because of the intense heat. Beers were a pleasant surprise, none of them were mediocre and all left an impression. Atmosphere is "converted old warehouse" with farm implements on walls. Certainly worth the trip into Glens Falls!“

“What I can add to the others’ polite comments? Great people in this minute brewery backdoor shop and taproom. Great service, fun to talk to, pleasant people. Very sadly, the great majority of the beers were horribly infected. Complex infections too.“

“By far the best brew pub all the way up to Lake Placid, and including the Capital District. However, in recent years, the owners success has stroked their egos quite a bit. Prices have gone to $4.50a/ Shaker pint.. When they started a few years ago, they had the best deal as far as food prices; now they are bordering on outright expensive! They still have M-F Happy hour $1.00 off 4pm-6pm. I generally continue to return for the beer, but I have got pissed-off at the staff/owners at times..Once, I ordered a "strong ale" that was listed with all the other beers on a blackboard; it turns out that this barrel was reserved from the previous year, and they charged me $6.50 for a 15oz pint, without telling me the cost up front! However, they recently changed their Growler policy so that they now will fill ANY growler for $9. Also, since they have so many wholesale customers accounts in the area, its not difficult to find their beers at other pubs/restaurants for CHEAPER than they sell it at the brewery ($3.50 is common). Despite my gripes, the beer remains top notch, with absolutely no compromise on quality in the years I’ve drank it. Best picks are the very pricey Scotch Ale; and the new Rye Cream; and the flagship IPA> ADDENDUM 8/06: Prices are now $4.50 for "Shaker Pint"! Go at happy hour, and bring your own empty growlers for the best "deal".“

“Unfortunately, when we visited, there were significant problems with most of the beers but the staff were very friendly and chatted with us for a while about the different beers and even gave an impromptu tour of the brewery. I hope they can work out the issues with their process as I’d like to see this small brewery succeed.“

“Finally had food on this, my third visit. Lovely old converted building, with nice alley outdoor summer seating as well. Beautiful, long wooden bar. Beer well above average, though not necessarily adventurous, and food was fine. All in all, one of the better brewpubs, if not the best, in the Hudson valley/Eastern NY state.“

“Very friendly family brewery that operates on a small scale - A 15 sq. ft. taproom and producing a 5 gallon batch at a time? I felt the beers were a tad watery and often lactic. I hope they sort these issues out because there is much promise from a brewer this size. The Bethel family has recipes for many different styles so I look forward to another adventure their way...“

“The ambiance was raised by the fact that we happened to stop in on a brew day. The smell of the steeping grain permeated the pub. As noted by Martin, the focus of this pub is on English style ales and all were very well brewed and enjoyable. The stout and cheddar soup was truly fantastic and the rest of the food was also very enjoyable. Service was prompt and friendly without being overbearing. The food and beers were great, the setting was and service were very good. This place is worth the trip.“

“Excellent, well-brewed English-style ales, always well balanced and flavorful sessions. The stout and cheddar soup was decadent and a rare culinary delicacy in a trip to the US of A. Of all brewpubs in the greater Albany region, I would recommend you visit this one first if you like your pints to be filled with classy and tasty English ales.“
