70 /100 21 W. MOUNTAIN Visited here on Saturday afternoon in late April '23 after a day of hiking in the Ozarks. Great location on the square in downtown Fayetteville. Old English Pub feel to the place, large bar area with a plenty of tables scattered about. Have about a dozen on tap, no real boundary stretchers Had a brown and an IPA, no flaws, but the flavor did not overwhelm me. did in a pinch. Pub grub menu, did not partake. Lots of locals. Just happened to be happy hour - only $3 a beer - great value! |
38 /100 210 SOUTH ARCHIBALD YELL BLVD. Of the four breweries I visited in Fayetteville, this was the worst (with Fossil Cove coming in a close second due to their many infected beers). I tried a flight of 4 (for $10 plus tax), and every single one had yeast issues. The first tip was the murky haze that permeated all of them. Their tastes weren’t atrocious, but the yeastiness ruined everything. Let’s hope they get their act together. As of now, definitely do not waste your time here. |
56 /100 21 W. MOUNTAIN The OG for NW Arkansas. Old school place right in the main downtown square / main area. Old school feel to it with plenty of bar seating. 12 or so taps, with 10 of their own, plus a couple guests. Flights of 4 available for $7.50 (tax inclusive)—very cheap. Beer quality is middling, with nothing I had standing out, but nothing being terrible either. Beer styles were pretty safe, so not much room to stand out. Very friendly service. Nice spot—mediocre beer. |
52 /100 701 W NORTH STREET Better than Fossil Cove but still not a great spot. It’s a cute little place, with about 9-10 taps. Flights of 5 x 4 oz pours for $10 (incl tax). Beer quality was consistently fine, with a few that don’t quite hit the mark and none standing out. Nothing special here. |
40 /100 1946 N BIRCH AVE I visited on a Saturday afternoon when it was moderately busy, yet street parking was tricky. I tried a flight of 5 beers for $13 plus tax. Unfortunately, 3 of the 5 were infected or had other problems, making them totally undrinkable. It’s a nice place and service is friendly, but the beer was terrible. Avoid. |
74 /100 Smitty's Garage Burgers and Beer (Restaurant) 100 EAST JOYCE BLVD Visited here in early May '22 on a Tuesday evening while in the area for business. Lots of brick and glass, high ceilings, wide open layout, large bar area. Burgers are the draw here obviously with about a dozen varieties. I had a grilled jalapeno bacon cheeseburger, and it was delicious. Tacos, salads, and chicken sandwiches are also available. Decent draft and can selection with a smattering of local favorites. spot on service and agreeable prices. |
82 /100 701 W NORTH STREET Visited here in early May '22 on a Tuesday evening while in the area for business. Tight quarters in a funky little building. Small bar, a few tables scattered about. Adjacent room appears to have a ping pong table, a few tables outside as well. Have about 10 of their own on tap, many styles represented, pretty decent prices, some were as low as $4.50 a pint. A few of their selections were available 16 oz take home cans. Lively local crowd, happened to be a meet up for a local running club. Great local stop. |
70 /100 Whole Foods Market - Fayetteville, AR (Grocery Store) 3425 N COLLEGE AVE Visited here in early May '22 while in the area for business. Beer is located in the back, cooler against the wall. Has an excellent selection of local and regional beers, lots of imports. no singles though except for a few random big bottle imports. Like all other Whole Foods it seems, they have shuttered their tap room. Hopefully these will be opening back up soon. |
60 /100 1550 EAST ZION RD. SUITE 1 Visited here in late March '21 on a Saturday afternoon. Located in a suburban strip mall, wide open space inside, big saloon-style bar, lots of tables, outside seating as well with cornhole. Although they brew their own as part of their full-bar offering, they seem to be an afterthought, the menu just lists the five styles - no names. However the two I had, a Hefe and a Porter were pretty decent. Full menu, brewpub fare, burgers, sandwiches etc. I had the loaded fries and they were pretty solid. Overall decent, just not my first choice among the many offering in the NW Ark area. |
82 /100 121 W TOWNSHIP ST STE 11 Visited here late August '20 on a late Saturday afternoon while in the area hiking. Located in a suburban strip mall, cozy interior. have about a dozen or so of their own on tap, wide variety of styles. the two I had were decent and brewed to style. Food was not a mainstay, offered a singular main course of whatever they had cooking but not a regular menu. Pub mix available and hit the spot. Prompt and friendly service.. My first visit to a non-restaurant brewery since the outbreak of Covid -19 - good to be back! |
84 /100 Puritan Brew Company (Bar) 205 W DICKSON Located on the main drag near campus, this was one of the more modern chic establishments we visited in Fayetteville. It's part coffee shop and part bar. Plenty of folks were in here during the evening studying and a little socializing was also happening. The beer list isn't particularly extensive but it's very well curated. I get the feeling it rotates frequently. Beers were on the high end of prices for Fayetteville but you're still only paying $6 or $7. Service was good. It's a comfortable spot to drink a quality beer or perhaps some Onyx coffee and served as a cool change of pace during my visit. |
78 /100 701 W NORTH STREET This is a charming, old building situated mere feet from the bike trail. They really take advantage of that too as a run club was congregating here during my visit. It's cozy inside. The beer list sported quite a few classics, as was the case with most of the breweries we visited on this trip. Pretty cool stop. |
76 /100 Hugo’s (Restaurant) 25 1/2 NORTH BLOCK AVE. I loved eating dinner at Hugo's. It's clearly a mainstay in Fayetteville. It's a classic American diner with beer in an ancient basement. The burgers are top notch, just vintage. Thanks to a few solid breweries in NW Arkansas, you can have a good, local product to wash that greasy meal down. This is not a beer destination but there's not enough beer destinations to fill a whole weekend in Fayetteville, so do yourself a favor and soak up Hugo's. |
80 /100 Dickson Street Liquor (Beer Store) 241 W DICKSON ST There's a pretty decent beer selection in this liquor store near campus. Most all of it is refrigerated. It was leaning heavily towards local product which is becoming the thing in most states and a trend I love to see. There weren't a lot of bomber options, which I kinda wanted but didn't need. Fortunately they had plenty of desirable six packs which was crucial in stocking my hotel fridge for my stay. |
86 /100 1946 N BIRCH AVE Fossil Cove is tucked away in a warehouse complex a block off the highway. The cartoon dinosaur theme is pretty cool. The beer selection was broad, featuring a few things I wanted to drink. What I had was certainly solid. Seating at the bar is a little sparse but there is plenty of table space available. Bartender was really nice. |
80 /100 21 W. MOUNTAIN West Mountain is clearly the old-school brewery in the scene. It's an old pizza parlor just a block off the main square. The interior is like taking a step back in time, beer list too. I don't mind a short list with classic styles, especially these days when that's more rare, so long as the beer is made well. I just had a hefeweizen but it was quality. The bartender was great. Overall, this was a charming experience and the proximity to downtown is fantastic. |
72 /100 210 SOUTH ARCHIBALD YELL BLVD. Visited here in late August '19 late on a Saturday afternoon. Tucked way down the hill off the street, blink and you will miss it! Tight quarters, long bar area with a few tables, but a spacious patio. Have about a dozen of their own on tap, interesting names, most play on the word 'crisis': midlife, identity, averted - you get the idea. Wide variety of styles represented, good choice of styles, most were pretty decent. Good local crowd, seemed a bit older than a college crowd. |
76 /100 Liquor World - Fayetteville (Beer Store) 3330 N COLLEGE AVE Visited here in late July '19 on a Saturday afternoon. Big, wide open, warehouse type liquor store with a huge selection of beer. Pretty much the whole back wall is a huge beer cooler. Hundreds of six packs, all of the local NW Ark breweries represented as well as dozens of regional brewers. One huge shelf of singles, lots to choose from, little light Arkansas singles though. Prices reasonable, friendly service. |
80 /100 1946 N BIRCH AVE Visited here on a Saturday afternoon in late July '19 while hiking in the area. Located in an warehouse-industrial type area, nice little no-frills place. Small bar, a few tables scattered about, picnic tables in the brewing area as well. Have about 16 or so on tap, offered in various sizes and crowlers/growlers. Many styles represented, the several I had were top notch. Staff handled the busy weekend crowd well. |
64 /100 Crossover Liquor (Beer Store) 1890 N CROSSOVER RD Stopped here today but didn’t find anything new. They have all the standard beers but not many special things. Worth a stop to get beers to drink, but not if you are looking for something new or interesting. |
54 /100 Hugo’s (Restaurant) 25 1/2 NORTH BLOCK AVE. Been here numbers of times. A slightly dingy college pub down a flight of stairs in a basement. Food is good. Beer selection is, meh. Nothing interesting. Don’t go for the beer. |
86 /100 Liquor World - Fayetteville (Beer Store) 3330 N COLLEGE AVE Great place. The beer guy really knows his stuff. Really good selection and especially a good pick six offering. Great place and well worth a visit. |
78 /100 1550 EAST ZION RD. SUITE 1 Nice place food is good to very good. Beer is also good to very good. Had about 15 options, including a cask ale on my last visit. Well worth the visit. |
84 /100 Liquor World - Fayetteville (Beer Store) 3330 N COLLEGE AVE This is the best store in Fayetteville to get beer. They have the best selection and knowledgeable staff. It is in a warehouse, so it’s not anything special for ambiance. But, as far as the beer goes, this is the place. High rating because it is a great store for Arkansas. |
78 /100 Sideways (Bar) 311 W DICKSON ST Nice place. Came here for the Beer Camp tapping. Server was knowledgable and very friendly. Good selection and nice atmosphere. This is a much, much better place than Brewski’s across the street. Very worth a visit. |
42 /100 Town & Country Liquor (Beer Store) 2016 W 6TH S They have a great beer selection for their size, as well as a good liquor selection. Wine is a little harder to come by. I have had several experiences with rude staff members, but it’s close to my house and the prices are fair so I still visit occasionally. |
74 /100 Sideways (Bar) 311 W DICKSON ST Quickly peeked in to find a large selection of taps on. Plenty of regional and local stuff, but nothing that we already hadn’t had by visiting the breweries themselves. Still, it’s nice to find such a variety all in one place, and just off the main drag in a college town. We were the only folks there on a Sunday afternoon in summer, so we didn’t stick around long, but it’s a place I’d return to in the evening. |
66 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Fayetteville (Restaurant) 1460 E AUGUSTINE LN Slightly smaller than your a erage MM, and located in a pretty out-of-the-way stripmall that shares a parking lot with what looked like an interesting liquor store (closed when we stopped by on a Sunday). MM staff were extremely friendly. Couple of dozen taps included a number of local beers plus some better known micros. Worth a stop if you’re passing by, but don’t go out of your way. |
68 /100 Mellow Mushroom - Fayetteville (Restaurant) 1460 E AUGUSTINE LN Not a particularly convenient location on the outskirts of Fayetteville. This branch is clean, well-run. There were 24 taps offering a selection that felt pretty typical for a Mellow Mushroom. About 5 local beers plus some of the big craft players. For Arkansas, that’s a solid tap list. Our waitress was extremely bubbly, friendly. The hummus was fine, reasonably priced. Overall, Mellow Mushroom’s a dependable option. |
66 /100 Dickson Street Liquor (Beer Store) 241 W DICKSON ST Surprisingly decent selection located in a convenient location right on Dickson. The store’s mostly geared towards wine, but there’s a solid selection of singles and large format bottles available. Local stuff was available in addition to things from Evil Twin, Finch’s, Boulevard etc. Prices were a bit high for the region. Service was nonexistent. |
68 /100 21 W. MOUNTAIN Nice location right on a quiet square in the center of Fayetteville. Bonus points for having the brewing equipment visible from the bar area. The other customers seemed to be there primarily for lunch, not to drink. During my visit there were 6 house beers available along with a few guests. The house beers were pretty unremarkable, clearly geared towards the uninitiated. Sample pours are only $1.25, so it’s pretty cheap to try the lineup. The bartender was very kind, but she didn’t know much about the house beers. Overall, not a place I’d go out of my way for. However, it’s probably one of the better places in the center of Fayetteville to have a beer. |
70 /100 Dickson Street Liquor (Beer Store) 241 W DICKSON ST Medium size store right on the main strip in the center of town. Decent selection of singles, bombers and 750s, including a bunch of interesting things from Boulevard. Nice prices. Friendly staff. Worth a peek. |
72 /100 21 W. MOUNTAIN Right in the middle of a small quaint downtown area, street parking. It’s sort of in a pizza place, and the pizza looked tasty enough. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Flights with three ounce or so beer mugs were available. Beers were OK, with a couple above average. Worth a look. |
68 /100 1946 N BIRCH AVE Smallish tasting room, small bar and a handful of tables, with a few tables outside. Good views into the brewery with cute little fermentation vessels. Flights of five beers for eight bucks, with ten beers total on offer. Most are pretty decent. Service is average. Nice enough place. |
66 /100 1550 EAST ZION RD. SUITE 1 This place is more like a restaurant with a brewery attached. Tons of equipment visible htrough a glass partition, yet only three of their beers on offer. One was a passable example of a gose. The food was tasty enough, but certainly not in the same league as Tusk and Trotter. Friendly staff as everywhere here it seems. Worth a look. |
64 /100 Hugo’s (Restaurant) 25 1/2 NORTH BLOCK AVE. This place is something of a local institution, famed for its comfortable atmosphere and allegedly great burgers. I decided to check it out for a late lunch. The basement location ensures it’s pretty dark and almost dreary. The staff made the experience comfortable. They were quite friendly, happy to answer questions. The burger patties were clearly preformed and probably frozen, so I can’t say the burgers rate as anything better than serviceable. The beer selection, however, is pretty good for a restaurant in northwest Arkansas. The 6 taps only had two spots reserved for macros (Coors Light & Guinness). 2 beers from Ozark were available. Ozark probably make the best beer in the state, so their presence was quite welcome. The bottle list isn’t large, but it’s good for the region. There was some Rogue, Green Flash, a few Germans. Prices were solid. A beer and burger set me back under $13. Overall, restaurants are still catching up with the relative renaissance that the beer scene’s had in NWA. Hopefully more places in the area will follow Hugo’s lead. |
72 /100 Sideways (Bar) 311 W DICKSON ST This place is sort of hidden 20 metres off of Dickson, which seems to help keep some of the bro foot traffic away. Nice wooden bar with 61 taps and a decent amount of bourbon. The selection’s admittedly pretty similar to Brewski’s, but there seemed to be a few more less common offerings on tap so I’d give this place the edge. It was pretty empty on my visit, so it’s hard to judge ambiance and service, but my bartender was pretty friendly and accommodating. Overall, certainly a spot to check out if you’re in the area. |
64 /100 Brewskis Restaurant and Draft Emporium (Restaurant) 408 W DICKSON ST With 71 taps, this place claims to have the largest draught selection in the state. Dedicated Ratebeerians will probably find a ’beer, beer, everywhere, Nor any drop to drink’ scenario. There’s plenty to choose from, sure, but nothing’s particularly appealing. The 10 Arkansas beers available are all pretty commonplace. Other tap selections include ubiquitous offerings from the likes of Avery, New Belgium, Goose Island etc. Pretty bro-heavy ambiance. Prices, like all other places on Dickson St, are pretty high for Arkansas. Overall, I won’t be rushing back. Sideways offers a similar selection in a better ambiance. |
70 /100 1946 N BIRCH AVE Visited during their second anniversary party and didn’t find it too busy. This place definitely attracts a core group of regulars who all seem pretty familiar with each other, which lends to a sort of ’clubby’ atmosphere that visitors may be put off by. Most people in NWA consider this place (along with Ozark) to make the best beer in the area, so I was looking forward to trying their stuff out. Overall, I wasn’t disappointed by the quality of their beer. There were 10 beers on tap, not a single one was poor. Their white IPA was the standout on this occasion. Flights are limited to five beers, so it’s pretty hard to try the complete menu unless you’re in a group or willing to drop close to $20. Staff do give miniscule tasters, but it seems they’re more accustomed to serving by the pint. |
68 /100 Liquor World - Fayetteville (Beer Store) 3330 N COLLEGE AVE Pretty shady-looking liquor superstore located in a rundown strip mall that also houses an evangelical church. The selction’s pretty large, probably about the same size as Guess Who? in Bentonville. Locals were limited to sixers from Diamond Bear and bombers from Core and Saddlebock. The singles section had some decent Belgians as well as some interesting stuff from Omnipollo. Limited Prairie stuff was available, but not in the abundance that I’ve found at other places in the area. Solid value. I scored some nice Evil Twin bottles that had almost certainly been mis-priced. Overall, this isn’t a place that I’ll rush back to anytime soon. Visitors to Fayetteville may find this place worth a visit if they’re in a pinch. |
76 /100 1550 EAST ZION RD. SUITE 1 Pretty big brewpub in a commercial unit on the north edge of Fayetteville. They’re currently in the process of a pretty ambitious expansion, underlining how much the beer scene is taking off here (relatively speaking). As deyholla mentioned, the dark stained wood definitely lends a saloon feel to the place. 12 taps firing house beers, though only 6 were in use on my visit. The beers seemed to cover a bunch of different styles. Beers were generally mediocre, but without any glaring faults. Some were quite solid. The bock was the clear standout. Service was quite accommodating. The staff were pretty friendly and happy to answer any questions. Overall, certainly a place I’d include in a Fayetteville-area crawl. |
68 /100 21 W. MOUNTAIN Mediocre all the way around. Nothing particularly good in way of ambiance, service, food or beer. Just forgettable. With so many options close by, I would skip unless you are looking for ticks. |
80 /100 Liquor World - Fayetteville (Beer Store) 3330 N COLLEGE AVE Very big store with a pretty big selection. Lots of help although not beer geeks, and the only place I found all the rare Prairie beers. Singles available to mix a 12. |
68 /100 Crossover Liquor (Beer Store) 1890 N CROSSOVER RD A large but average store. Some decent stuff but not extensive. Service was reasonable and prices were good. |
76 /100 1550 EAST ZION RD. SUITE 1 Nice big place with a huge patio an desperate bar area. Service was if and slow. They had 8 of their own on tap, some good, food was pretty good, but overall a bit pricey. Decent place. |
76 /100 21 W. MOUNTAIN An odd little brewery that is located in side a little pizzeria. Not really a bar area, just a few seats near the soda machine as the tap are housed in the back. Staff wasn’t particularly knowledgeable about the beer but did offer very good service. Only a dollar per sample of beer which was very nice. They had 6 of their own on plus a few others. Pizza was good but not spectacular. Not a bad little place. |
84 /100 Liquor World - Fayetteville (Beer Store) 3330 N COLLEGE AVE A large warehouse like liquor store. I was in early on a Friday so it was slow but owner was on hand and made sure that I found everything I needed. Selection varied greatly from Oklahoma which worked out well for me. Prices seemed competitive over all. A nice store IMO. |
84 /100 1550 EAST ZION RD. SUITE 1 A nice brewpub just a bit north of town. A large open area with a bar that looks like it has been re purposed from an old saloon. A nice large patio out side. Bartender was very friendly and gave me some background on the relatively new place. Had the Cuban which was solid. They had ten beers on tap and samplers are offered. Well worth a stop if you are in town! |
