“Visited on a Friday afternoon. Plenty of seating (chairs a little too small for big guys). Bar service, but no table service. Props for dog-friendly patio. Overall vibe is more Cracker Barrel country restaurant than brewpub. We got two flights (8 tasters), it from the dizzying array of beers on tap... choose carefully, because nearly all the beers are flavored. Sad to say, I thought only one out of eight was any good. One was plain undrinkable. Butter and soap were prevalent flavors. Would not recommend.“

“Met Cybercat here for an in-person trade. It's kind of on the outskirts of downtown (I think, I don't know Cookeville geography that well...). It looks like a converted manufacture place of some sort, but there is plenty of room and its nicely done inside. They had 23 of their beers on tap, plus a cream soda and a rootbeer. Bonus service points for the owner giving us free pizza from next door. Thanks! Cool place and definitely worth a stop in you are in Cookeville.“

Father Tom’s Pub (Restaurant)
32 N CEDAR AVE
“Single story, single roomed pub just a short walk from both Crawdaddy's and Red Silo. It's a busy place with small tables just about suitable for dining, but they pack them in so you can get a good intimiate atmosphere in here when it's busy. The bar is in the middle of the right-hand wall and its tap selection includes locals and guests from much further afield, with sampler sizes available if you want to go through the beer menu in here. It certainly had the best selection of the half-dozen places I visited in Cookeville in 2016. There's a covered outdoor area at its side.“

“Just beyond the heritage railway station in Cookeville, on its most active commercial street, the venue is accessed through its own attractive courtyard which in the summer comes into its own and is a popular place to dine. They'll assume this is what you want to do if you come here, but simply drinking is allowed, and you may want to go and sit in the bar area or even at it to allow the servers to seat someone else at busy times. I had to go and inspect the taps and bottles in the fridges before ordering as there was no menu at the table for this, but being a foreign visitor there was always going to be something of interest here for me, including Calfkiller brews on tap. The selection may be less eclectic to natives. We would have ate here except the vegetarian options were limited. Ended up eating in Father Tom's around the corner.“

“On the opposite side of the block to the old railway station in the centre of old Cookeville, this is a single storey commercial unit with a very active and purposely designed bar at the front, with the brewing activities taking place in the back. There's a fair list of regular ales availabe here at any time complimented by few seasonal or special brews, and tasting pallets are available so you can get through quite a few at a time if you're stay in Cookeville is limited. Locals seem to enjoy this place and it was just as busy as the Father Tom's pub which is just a few steps away around the corner.“

Spankie’s (Restaurant)
203 E 9TH ST
“Up by the University, I think it does well late on from the students, although on a late and rainy summer afternoon it was near empty on my visit. Food is served here in this single storey venue in its own non-descript buliding. A fenced and covered garden area does give the entrance area some character, but otherwise the majority of the land is taken up by the large car park at the buildings side. The bar covers much of the left hand side of the building after you walk in, with a number of taps (more than the 4 stated on this page at the time of writing) that include brews from the local area, probably from Calfkiller, and others from further afield in the State, with Nashvillle micros being sold here too. The food area is visible at its rear with tables suitable for dining throughout.“

“Not a beer destination unless you are for some reason stuck in the Cookeville area, and not really worth the exit time if just passing through on I-40. Nothing you can’t get in Knoxville or Nashville at a better price. People were friendly though.“

“This is in a small strip mall on the main drag in Cookeville. There is one small aisle of beer but at the back is a long row of cooler doors which are actually shelves of the walk in beer cave. Good selection of local and regional micros.“

Gondola Pizza House (Restaurant)
1156 S JEFFERSON AVE
“Just south of junction 288 of the I40 in Cookeville. It’s a single level building with parking all around, perhaps a little dated inside, and it is very much a pizza house, not a beer venue. Its taps are all US macro beers with a few bottles available that are not on the menu, however these too are a little too well known to please a beer hunter looking for something new. It’s across from several large hotel chains, so it is handy in that respect, especially as the pizza is fairly good.“

“A new venture in an older brick building, all looking very fresh inside and out in its fenced garden area. There’s ample parking by its side too. The taproom has a number of bench seats inside, with the wooden bar separating these from the commercial brewing operation behind it. Currently only open towards the end of the week, it had seven of its own brews on tap, with 5 flight taster trays available. Bottled conditioned versions of some of these are also here to drink in or take-away.“

“Mainly liquor and wines, there’s fridges at the back of the surprisingly large square room that contain a mix of six pack beers, large bottle single craft brewed ales, and smaller more nationally available craft choices. There’s a few decent beers to be found in the latter though. It could perhaps have a better focus on locally produced beers, but it’s still very much worth a stop if you’re in the area.“

Kroger - Cookeville (Grocery Store)
445 S JEFFERSON AVE
“Central to Cookeville supermarket with its beer selection towards the left hand side of the food stuff aisles. It’s mostly six-pack selections, but there’s a small section in the corner of the long fridge that includes single choice bottles, although again you are encouraged to build your own six pack here. There’s a lack of local options here, brews from North Carolina might be considered regional in this part of the state, but it’s not a great selection here.“

Char (Restaurant)
14 SOUTH WASHINGTON AVE
“In the center of Cookeville, it’s a corner restaurant with a side patio area. Twin roomed, theres a wall mostly separating the two, although you can easily walk between. The bar side has a large shutter that opens up, whilst the restaurant side has its own covered patio by the building right by the sidewalk. The horseshoe shaped bar includes a row of taps, all well-known, but with two changeable beers from the Calfkiller Brewery, which this place seems to promote quite well. There’s a few bottles of interest available too. I didn’t sample the food.“

“At the end of a row of small shop units on the main Jefferson drag up to the centre of Cookeville, this is a fairly well converted space. Mostly square, the bar is on the right hand side with the lion share of tables to the left. The front windows are partly blacked out by blinds, and there’s television screens showing various sports all around. Food is served here and the taps selection is mostly national stuff, but it does have two changeable beers from the relatively local Calfkiller Brewery. People smoke in here but it’s well ventilated. “

“Here’s the reason I scored this one lower than the others. Located on one of the main streets in Cookeville near the campus so parking was on the street. Even on a Wednesday, there was no parking close. Three of us were seated at a table set for 4 that was big enough for two people. 80’s top 40 music helped bring my score down a notch. The food is quite good - go there for their Cajun or seafood dishes and the steaks are great. As far as a beer place - they don’t list any beers on the menu nor is there a beer menu so your server will have to tell you which ones they remember. (She did remember that they had a Lagunitas IPA) They also had 2 CalfKiller beers on draft if you want the rates - the beers are so-so. Oh, and you’ll get a frozen mug too. “

“Good food place with a nice ambiance. Beer selection is not so great. Nice value for both food and beer. Service is typical hit-or-miss student working their way through college: they may know that beer has hops in it, or they might think that hops are for rabbits, you silly customer. Don’t go out of your way if you’re going for the beer; keep on driving another hour to Nashville or Knoxville (or better yet, Asheville).“

“This is a big restaurant with an inviting outside dining area in a garden setting, plenty of table space inside and a full fledged bar upstairs. They are going for a New Orleans theme and pull it off well enough for Cookeville, TN. The food is Cajun and very tasty. I had a bit of the Fat Tuesday burger which was very good (would have been outstanding if they would cook it below medium), spinach dip with chipotle chips and the best appetizer I’ve had in a while: goat cheese pesto with French bread. The beer selection is not expansive with merely Lazy Magnolia being of any worth in the cooler and the taps not faring much better except for the Calfkiller offerings. However, if a beer enthusiast finds himself in Cookeville, he’s gonna have to drink Calfkiller and this is one of the few restaurant to carry it and has a superior food menu to boot.“

Char (Restaurant)
14 SOUTH WASHINGTON AVE
“I wouldn’t expect a nice place like this to be in Cookeville as I gaze at the surroundings on the highway coming from the interstate. The downtown area is actually pleasant and Char fits in with the classy-for-Tennessee theme. Parking is limited, but there were lots of spaces along the nearby streets. We were here a little after lunchtime, so we were able to find a very convenient space. The patio areas are huge and would make for some a great mealtime scene. Inside is dimly lit with sparse and tasteful decor with three or so flatscreens on mute. The lunch menu is solid while the dinner menu looks tantalizing. The cheese sticks are hand battered and feature different varieties of cheese. I also sampled the seafood cakes and garlic mashed potatoes. The idea was just to have some pub grub appetizers and they were great. The beer selection is lacking like many places around this area, but the reason Char needs to be on Ratebeer is because they proudly feature the Calfkiller brews. They had three at the time and there was more signage and advertisement for them than anything else available. Oh, there are some unbelievable beer and appetizer specials during the day. I had a pint of Calfkiller and an order of the cheese sticks for a grand total of $5.82.“
