“Great addition to Northern Virginia beer landscape. I've been here twice since moving to Herndon area. Great open space, and tons of taps. Beer is available in 4oz pours or larger. Friendly service, and a nice patio in Fairfax town center. The IPAs were super fresh when I was here, and a great selection of stuff--not just the IPAs that usually made their way to the DC area. I'll definitely be a regular here. They do pizzas and bar food, and they even sell a small selection of cans to go, either in four packs or some in singles.“

“I grew up not far from here, used to bowl at the bowling alley nearby. Very light industrial area, with an interesting setup. Lots out outdoor space, but the space is basically the old loading area for the unit they're in. Space inside is well configured, maximized space. Pour your own beers. Good selection when I was there - 12 on tap or so. Beers were solid for being so new.“

“Small place beside a Red Apron, owned by the guys who run Churchkey and other good beer places in DC. Good food, albeit expensive, and a small but well curated selection of taps. Not worth driving all the way out here for, but definitely would be a common place I'd go to if I lived in the area. Caboose Commons is just around the corner with a loud, fun place, though the beer there isn't nearly as good as at B-Side. Also, you can order some of the bottles they have on the meat side in Red Apron and open them in the bar--they had a bunch of lambics when I was in. Good service, good music.“

“Big open place in Merrifield that has a big patio and a huge inside area with a high roof and at least three levels. They do flights here. Beer mostly average but nothing terrible. Vibe was good here on a Sunday afternoon. Some live music outside, though a thunderstorm killed it. Service just OK, mostly this is online order so ya. About 10-14 beers on tap. Just around the corner from B-Side, where you'll find better quality beer.“

“These guys manage to make a decent atmosphere with what would otherwise be an industrial brewery in a back alley of an industrial park. Nice forest alongside it at least, with occasional trains going back. Big patio outside under tents. They do everything by how many ounces you pour, so you can definitely drink more of what you like and try a bunch of stuff for quick ticks as well. Friendly staff. There was a food truck outside with pub fare when I visited. Beer was mostly average with a few really good ones, mostly the dark beers. They don't have wifi, be advised. They have some seltzers and sodas on tap if you're into that.“

“Very large Whole Foods with a ho-hum beer selection - like many WF stores of late, the beer section seems like it is gradually being consumed by hard seltzer and hard kombucha - a handful of local craft beers and the more ubiquitous craft brands like Dogfish Head and Stone - not worth a stop for the beer hunter - hard to believe this is the most highly rated “beer store” in Fairfax.“

“Large multistory open facility with industrial feel. Good selection of beers, usual prices. Located close to Mosaic District, a new urbanist place. Parking appears ok, bike parking is good, metro station not far away though some may find the walk which crosses Rte 29 challenging. Service was fine.“

“We came here on 17.9.2019. 15 min from Washington Dulles Airport. 18 beers on tap. All beers we had were great (gose, session, pale ale, IPA and Pumpkin). Food was also quite delicious (Jambalaya). Liked the bar which is sitting on the lower level, a merchandising shop next to the entrance and overall very well decorated. Extremely knowledgable and friendly service. Highly recommendable.“

“If anyone went to the original place, it's a lot smaller than that, but still about the size you'd expect from a regular sized restaurant/sports bar. Large bar runs most of the length of the place, with some bar seating and table seating on the other side of the bar area.

Staff was nice, they had just reopened but seemed pretty comfortable with the space already. Food looked good, but didn't eat. If it was like the previous location, the food will be like very upscale bar food.

There were 6 of their own beers on tap when I visited, with one collaboration and a few guest beers.“

“Located next to the Mosaic District, this is Caboose's second location. Like the original location, this is built out of an old warehouse. This one, however, is much larger. Inside has 3 levels, main and second levels are largest. Third is more like a lounge. Outdoor seating is large. Entire place is pretty spacious. They've been using a handy app to allow for faster ordering. Line can be long if you don't use the app. Food seems to be a slightly better value than the original location.“

“Fairfax City's first brewery. This is located in a strip shopping center, right near a grocery store and a few restaurants. Outside patio with a few tables and some barrels to put glasses on. When I went they had 6 or 7 of their own beers on, with a number of local guest taps. Most beer was decent to good, nothing mind blowing yet, but they show a lot of promise with a few of their beers. Place is tiny, and I have no suggestions for when to avoid the rushes. Staff is friendly and does a great job clearing glassware, asking if you need anything, etc. Small menu of food right now, not sure if they're expanding or what. Pretzels and perogies and maybe one or two other items.“

“Stopped by walking over from Angelika to B Side. Mostly narrow space with wines along the main wall, beers along the back walls. Small cooler selection with a small selection of beer/cider. Singles and packs both available. Staff was friendly but mostly passive. Decent selection of beers. Fair prices about average. Wouldn't go out of my way but it's a decent stop if you're already in the Mosaic District within walking distance.“

High Side (Bar)

“Nice new craft beer bar in downtown Fairfax. They have some limited dedicated parking spots behind their building, narrow entrance to the right of the building, might be a little tricky if you're turning left from Chain Bridge Road depending on traffic. Otherwise, there are several parking lots/garages and street parking nearby.

Nice quaint homey atmosphere inside and out. Seating is first come first serve and somewhat limited, also a small standing bar with no stools. Next to the small bar is the register where you can line up to order if the bar is full. Friendly service with three attentive bartenders working the counter. Taps include 20 beers and 4 ciders to choose from, beer/wine bottle list also available. Lots of local and East Coast craft selections including Aslin, Ocelot, Precarious, and The Veil. Unique food menu with Taiwanese style street food, everything was very tasty although a bit pricey for some of the portions. Beer prices are about average for the DC metro area.

Well worth a stop for the beer and food, if I lived closer I'm sure I'd be in somewhat regularly. A very welcome addition to downtown Fairfax.“

“WOW - that’s MOM upside down. Actually this place had a much better selection than I expected. It’s a huge place, and seems really sparse when you first walk in. Beer selection is near the front, far side of the place. Decent local selection. Worth checking out if you’re in the area and new. Not as good as Swirl and Sip, or Red Apron/B Side, but better than your average grocery store.“

“Nice small upscale grocery store in Mosaic, good alternative to Whole Foods. “DCLawyer told me to add this place. Small grocery store in the Mosaic District, next door to Red Apron and B Side. Free multi-story parking garage right across the street. One endcap stocked with new release bombers and packs straight ahead of the entrance. More extensive selection towards the left end of the store near the checkout entrance. Pretty good selection of local VA beers you might not find at Red Apron or Dominion. They had six packs of Flying Dog’s Saw Bones which were apparently exclusive to MOM’s stores as far as VA distribution goes. Solid selection of regional US craft beer as well, probably nothing you can’t find elsewhere though. Average beer prices, maybe a touch pricier than the local beer shops. Haven’t tried the food/juice bar which is near the checkout counters, mainly vegan sandwiches and rice bowls available to eat in or take out if that’s your thing. Worth a look for local VA stuff if you’re visiting Mosaic District.“

“One of the best chain craftbeer locations in the MD/DC/VA metro areas. The selections of craftbeers (and other liquors) are bordering on vast (OK...maybe damn large...but always want to use the word vast in a review...lol!). You have a legitimate chance of getting many specialty and seasonals here too. I’m from north NJ where their are no Total Wines...but this one is near a family member I visit...so I’ve been able to check it out a few times. Definitely the best place in the area (along with other Total Wines...don’t know if they vary much location by location though).“

“Typical Wegmans, ample parking lot. Beer section on the far right front section of the store, pretty identical to the newer Alexandria location. Also check the nearby checkout aisle endcap for some additional Hardywood and Adroit Theory beers. Fairly decent selection of packs, singles, and large format bottles. Prices are about average. Okay look if you have time to kill, decent stop if you’re looking for some Adroit bottles and don’t want to trek out to the brewery..“

“Pretty big Whole Foods with lots of ample parking. Beer is located in the back of the store at the far right end. Possibly the best selection of beers and local ciders I’ve seen for a Whole Foods. Draft bar is located near the cheese counter, next to the ramen bar. Flights, pints, and growler fills available with around 6 or 7 selections. Draft prices were pretty good, at least for local stuff. Pint of a new Flying Dog release for $4. Didn’t try any of the food bars but looked like a good variety of stuff to eat in. Not a whole lot you couldn’t find at other shops but worth a look if you’re nearby.“

“Nice place to have some pub grub...watch some sports...and drink Dogfish beers. The place itself is very cool...as are all their establishments...but it often gets very packed...so keep that in mind. The food is good to very good...but nothing really great or gourmet or anything. As for the beers...they usually seem to be their standard offereings...at least when I’ve visited (just down the road from a family member...so convenient when I visit them)...it’s unfortunate they don’t offer more specialty and one off beers...seems like just the standards...along with some of the same seasonals that cycle. I’m guessing they may have some special tasting nights...but they don’t seem to be on the weekends when I visit. By the way...I am a big Dogfish fan...especially their Milford, DE brewery and their Rehoboth Beach brewpub...I just feel this place is a bit too corporate and lacking some of the soul of the DE locations. Still...if in the area...worth a visit.“

“Typical American Irish bar with a few regional beers on tap in addition to the usual Irish suspects. I was here to watch the Women’s World Cup final, so it was packed to the brim with fellow raucous fans. Really fun but on any other occasion would not have liked how packed it gets. Ambiance: Corner of a strip mall in Fairfax. The parking lot exit on the intersection street (Pickett, I think) is a bloody nightmare, along with that side of the parking lot. Exited on the main street side and had to pull a u-turn a quarter mile up just to get on to Pickett. But other than the side closest to the store and the Pickett exit, plenty of spaces. Store itself is on the small side for a TW&M, but was well-organized. Service: A handful of TW&M staff around, mostly hauling boxes back and forth. No one approached to ask if we needed help, and the brewery reps or distributors on hand to shelve and front their lineups were actually helpful, although we found ourselves constantly having to move out of their way as they darted in and out in front of us, adjusting this bottle or that shelf tag. Selection: Typically awesome for the TW&M chain. Tons of seasonals and singles. Also a growler fill station with four taps, although no one around to either fill, talk about the beers, or ask for a sample (see above). Value: As always, in the DMV area, you’ll not find a cheaper bottle shop. Overall: Doesn’t compare to the best TW&M in the area, which is McLean. But if you’re west of the beltway, it’s worth checking out.“

“Large setup of three ’main’ rooms - restaurant, bottle shop and bar. We opted for the bar which had a typical American Sports Bar vibe complete with large TV screens at every angle. “Large parking garage around the corner makes that part of your job easy. The place itself is a bit of an odd setup. You enter the bottleshop area. “Visited around the first few months of their opening. Haven’t sat at the bar, only the dining area. Looked like the bar area can be opened up when weather is nice. Decent draft selection with local and regional U.S. offerings, a couple uncommon picks here and there. Bottles/cans available for take away in the entrance. Pizzas and sandwiches are solid, nice variety for everyone. Not the best pizza but a step above the big chains. Free parking on the street and in the garage, but could be scarce around peak times. “I’ve been there a few times, mix between dinner and happy hour. Well staffed at both restaurant and the bar. Food is on par with other Great American Restaurants. Some might call it cookie cutter, but kitchen is busting and food appears to be fresh and made with care. Beer selection is lacking though, they have the house beers (Great American Pale and the light). I wish they carried more of the Sweetwater beers than just those two. They have some macros, which is a bit sad.“

“Food is *great* Italian cuisine, so please don’t get me wrong, the rating here does not reflect the quality of the restaurant at all.

People looking for craft beer would be better off going just about anywhere else since the selection is just a few micros (maybe even just Sam Adams) and a few Italian imports (Peroni, Moretti), but nothing mind shattering. Pretty much what you’d find in a supermarket these days. I haven’t been here in a few months, so things could have changed, though the online menu doesn’t reflect that. Next time I go I can revise my selection/overall rating.“

“This place does a decent job of imitating the American idea of an Irish pub, modern style. Tap lost fortunately ventured beyond Guinness to include four local taps, one of which I had not tried before. Food was well executed pub grub, filling and hearty. Service was good, as I was the only one in the place at Monday lunch time. Not sure if they had a lot, I parked on the street a couple of blocks away, since they’re on a pretty busy intersection. “Very busy place at the lunch time. The guy who served us very super and so were the brews. Unfortunately there was not that many new beers since our last year’s visit to Dogfish Head place in Rehoboth Beach. I found it a bit funny when the guy said if you’d like to buy some of the Dogfish Head beers to go we shouldn’t buy the beers from them but from the liquor store at the same mall. Quite interesting.“

“I finally made it over there after discovering this place exists. I had been a regular customer for Red Apron at lunchtime, but hadn’t been over there at any point during the construction of this place.

We got there on a Tuesday night around 730, and it wasn’t nearly as packed as I thought it would be. Mostly full, but a few bar seats and I think a table open. We sat at the bar, naturally. The tap list isn’t long, but it has good stuff on it. Bottle list is pretty impressive. Some bottles are chilled, others are chilled on the spot with a wine chiller. I think the bottles are simply coming off the large shelf that is on the back wall at Red Apron. Would rather see a few additional tap listings if they could squeeze a few additional lines in.

I believe the place opens up at 4 (saw a funny yelp review where some guy was upset they wouldn’t let him order at 345). Food is a little on the pricy side, but it is almost entirely delicious. Picked a few things off the charcuterie list. Fries are the same as Red Apron’s, but has some kind of ranch aioli as a dipping sauce. The pork belly pupusa and the croquettes were the best things I had.

Another Neighborhood Restaurant Group win in my book.“

“Red Apron’s restaurant/bar located right next door to the Merrifield location. Pretty small place with around 15 or so seats at the bar and dining tables on the right side. First come first serve seating with no reservations like ChurchKey I believe. Music is vinyl played from a turntable hooked up to the sound system, going along with the name of the place. Kind of reminded me of a smaller version of The Partisan. Walked in almost 10 minutes after they opened and snagged the last bar seat, I guess some people were waiting in line for them to open.

Small draft selection with 12 taps but it’s a solid selection. 4 oz pours available so you could easily bingo the draft list. Bottle list wasn’t too shabby, mostly stuff you can find somewhat easily but a decent amount of scarcer stuff. A good amount of bottles are available for take away in the Red Apron side for cheaper, so drop there before/after if you don’t absolutely need to drink a bottle on-site. Looked like they had a nice wine list and the house cocktails sounded pretty good. Draft prices were good and bottle prices were pricey, pretty much in line with NRG’s other restaurants/bars.

Food was tasty and along the lines of Red Apron and The Partisan. Like The Partisan, it’s a bit pricey but good quality. Ordered some charcuterie, the Pork Belly Pupusa, rotisserie’d broccoli with atomic whiz, and the Italian Beef Burger which were all very good. Broccoli could use slightly bigger portions for being $5. Dessert menu consisted of 3 items which I didn’t try but they sounded tasty.

Service was a bit slow at first but improved. Friendly staff and happy to offer recommendations on drinks and food. Free parking in the garage across the street. About a mile from the Dunn Loring Metro so you could walk over, just be careful crossing the intersection at Lee Highway. Glad to have a place like this close to home, look forward to going back.

Side Note: If seating is full here, you can order from the bar and bring your drink to the Red Apron side for additional seating. Might also apply to food but not sure there.“

They allow cigar smoking on the patio which is a nice benefit. The happy hour pricing is great on food, happy hour beer selection sucks.
