Plan B - Simsbury (Restaurant)

“Visited here on the way to Bradley Airport, tad outta the way, but we had time to kill. Have to say, I like the way the did this place up. Old rail house now bar and restaurant. The upstairs was open on this Sunday afternoon when we stopped by. Staff was nice enough and service was good, but it was kind of slow so hard to judge them overall. Decent selection of beer on tap. KBS was on when I was there. Several Connecticut brewers and a couple larger craft ( rogue, Brooklyn) prices are fine for the metro Hartford area. Nice place, if you find your self in the area not a bad place to visit, not a go outta your way for, but good overall.“

“Big fan of plan B Simsbury. The burgers are great, and the bottle selection is excellent. They mark bottled as local or organic, which is a nice touch and the bottle menu is laid out from light to dark. They also have some fun large bottles and a decent tap selection. Recommended.“

“Good selection and competitive prices. This is my go to. It’s a larger store, and I’ve never asked for a recommendation, nor have I been asked if I want help (note: I don’t like being asked if I want help). “

“This place is a gem. Opened Feb of 2011 in a refurbished sandstone building like most of historical Simsbury. Ambiance is tremendous, the red sandstone interior combined with stained wood accents, large fireplace in the far side of the bar area, this place is going to be very popular once the snow falls. Great tap and bottle list, and I love the motto of this place, "All substance, no frills". Didnt have food this time, but I will definitely be trying the roast beef sandwich next time. My pops suggested going out for a few beers for my 32nd birthday, and we were very pleasantly surprised, cant wait to bring the wife.“

“Located in an old train depot which adds greatly to the ambience. It’s cozy and intimate and seems to have a larger bar area then the one in west hartford. Eveyone seemed friendly and personable. They had a dozen craft taps and inexplicably pbr. They also have a nice large bottle and can selection. They really focus on regional craft beer. I’m not sure they know a ton about beer but the person who buysfor them does. They also have a large selection of over 60 bourbons. Will return if I’m in the area.“

“There are a few places dotting Hopmeadow St through Simsbury like this one that are not there for the beer afficianado. very small selection of mostly macros, saw a sixer of petes wicked ale that had so much dust on it, looked as though it had been on the shelf for a decade.“

“small selection, but very nice staff. for a little package store, one of the first ive seen to carry mead. seems like they try to have interesting options to make up for the small selection. unfortunately for this store, there are better options in Simsbury.“

“Drove from Litchfield in the hopes of finding a decent tap selection anywhere in the area. Simsbury wasn’t exactly in the area, but that’s were we ended up. They have a great bottle list as well as beers of tap (Rogue Yellow Snow, Oskar Blues Mama Pils, Dogfish Head Chicory Stout, Arrogant Bastard...). I ended up getting Ballast Point Big Eye in a 12oz. bottle as my first drink... and then my memory gets a little hazy. Let’s just say we ended up drinking a lot. Food is great. We had Lobster Sliders (definitely recommended!) and a burger they had on special that’s made with Dogfish Head’s Chicory Stout. The bartenders are also extremely nice. They were always on the lookout if we needed anything or if our drinks were three-quarters empty. Proper glassware used. Overall: Friendly staff, good food, and a decent selection though a tad bit limited (only a couple taps). Still, we stayed for a while and enjoyed it. Return: Yes. #33 on 29112009, DG.“

“A Simsbury staple that is trying harder to get its selection up to par. hadnt been in here in a year and was surprised to see a little more selection than when i rated it first. there are still better places to go in the area, but if this is the closest and you need beer right now, its fine.“

“good beer store for ct. some rare beers, good selection in back starting with american micros, moving into belgians, german, english, some japanese (hitachino nest) and then meads. up front is the cooler selection that only has about a quarter of the selection in back. probably the best store in the area, best selection, some others come close, but this is the most consistent with the best rotation.“

“Great place for micro/ hard-to-finds, helpful staff thats pretty into beers, one of the best places in Simsbury and the area for beer. Not fantastic rotation of beers, pretty much the same stuff all the time, good seasonal rotation, but dont expect new beers to arrive. good belgian, some english, some german selections. overall, a very good place, not a great place.“

“Not a bad place for CT, I got a southern tier Oat, Struis pannepot, and a few other brews here. They had a decent selection of Great Divide, Avery, Weyer, and smuttynose. They also have a decent amount of belgians.“

“A lucky find! One day, fredandboboflo and I were bored and looking for something to do so we decided to check out this new beer store. A pretty good selection of imports, especially Belgians (Rochefort, St. Bernardus, 3 Fonteinen, Cantillon) and German stuff (all the varieties of the top brewers). Our favorite part though, was the glassware selection. Good locals (in the refrigerated section). Several rows of glassware including Rochefort (!!), Lindemanns, Westmalle, Ayinger, Chimay, Ommegang, and lots of others). Excellent prices too. If you’re looking for glassware stop by for sure and you’ll find good beer too.“

“Very friendly and helpful staff, who will help you with special orders, as well as reserve beer for returning customers. For being a small store, the beer selection is very good. “
