80 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD Visited in Jan 2024. Large pizza house in a strip mall just outside downtown Stamford. Three linked rooms, with one open to only to 21+ crowd, where the bar and beers are. They have 72 taps but 43 were in use when I visited. Very diverse local brews, as well as very good pizza! What's not to like? |
76 /100 83 BEDFORD ST Sports bar with a small but decent selection of taps. |
84 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD Restaurant with a huge selection of beers on tap.
Really tasty pizzas. |
78 /100 43 HOMESTEAD AVENUE Brewery and taproom with a good selection of Half Full Brewery beers. |
86 /100 Bev Max - Stamford (Beer Store) 835 E MAIN ST Large liquor store with a huge selection of craft and international beers. Most of the craft ones are IPA’s but you can also find a small selection of Imperial Stouts.
You can buy 4/6-packs beers or split them for a small price increase. |
82 /100 The Towne Parlor (Bar) 112 BEDFORD STREET Bar with a really good selection of taps and bottles & cans.
Tasty pizzas.
A bit expensive. |
74 /100 Star Wines & Spirits (Beer Store) 236 BEDFORD STREET Small liquor store with a really small selection (one fridge) of good craft beers (mainly local ones). |
78 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD A pretty impressive place in small town CT. 72 taps with a pretty magnificent selection. It’s primarily a pizza place, but their effort in the beer department was the highlight for us. Flights available of 4 x 5 oz. pours for the beer absurdly unreasonably $14 - c’mon guys, that’s ridiculous. Servers don’t know squat about beer, but we’re very friendly. Very much recommend a stop if nearby. |
80 /100 43 HOMESTEAD AVE Not trying to be a copycat...but it seems "80" is the magic number. This is a very solid place that I think can get even better...but after 4 years we’ll have to see...but still...a good stop on I95. Amazing for me though is having been through this area many times over the past 4 years and somehow overlooking Half Full...this is an easy 1 hour from my area in Parsippany, NJ (when there’s no traffic of course...lol!). Warehouse brewery...nothing special décor-wise...but functional and does the trick if the beers are decent...and they are. 9 beers available when I visited yesterday. The notables for me were the Bright Ale, Pursuit IPA, Onward Pale Ale, Celebrate Everything, Belgium IPA, and the Rise & Shine coffee Porter. The standout was the Have Anise Day porter with anise. Great bartender when I visited. I will definitely stop here when passing thru next time. |
74 /100 Plan B Burger Bar - Stamford (Restaurant) 230 TRESSER BLVD Solid spot. Great burgers. Nice tap list with good local rep. Flights available. I’m digging it. |
82 /100 Cask Republic - Stamford (Bar) 191 SUMMER STREET Pretty excellent place. Huge tap list and an impressive bottle list, with some rarities. 2 pre-built Firestone Walker flights, but you can’t otherwise customize flights, which is fairly bullshit. Great beer bar anyway - the beers available are pretty awesome. |
76 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD Visted on my way to Pez Factory. Service was great, but there was only one other family in there. Had the Buddy Guy burger, expensive but delicious. Tap selection was solid. |
72 /100 Cask Republic - Stamford (Bar) 191 SUMMER STREET Major league bar in growing stamford. Taps 76? Plus events. Missed funk fest but still many taps of funk/wild on surpassing most cities and bars. Vg service despite at table and drunk university crowd
|
58 /100 Bev Max - Stamford (Beer Store) 835 E MAIN ST Fairly good selection. I was specifically
After ct brewers. Weak in new england brewery releases but tge store elder responded to me with single bottles. Friendly cashiers. |
66 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD This place was a chilled craft beer treasure. Apparently 30 new taps recently and a great tap list with a separate bar. Needs to pick it up a notch in service but otherwise very happy. |
80 /100 43 HOMESTEAD AVE This is a fun spot. You can’t beat the unlimited refills for $15. That’s a great price. Good spot for hanging out as well. You can bring your own food which is great. We spent a few hours and really enjoyed ourselves. The beers range for solid to kind of mediocre, but the staff is friendly and the atmosphere helps make it more enjoyable than it would have been based of the beers alone. Plus, did I mention the price? |
52 /100 Fairway Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 699 CANAL ST Pretty average market beer selection. Nothing special. Don’t make it a destination. |
74 /100 Bev Max - Stamford (Beer Store) 835 E MAIN ST Best place I went to in Stamford for bottles. Average selection as compared to stores in other areas. Good for Stamford. They let you mix your own six packs which was the best feature. Okay. |
80 /100 43 HOMESTEAD AVE Nice little brewery in Stamford. They offer samples of all their beers for $5 and you get to keep the sample glass. You can’t really beat that. Beers ranges from introductory to quite good. Mostly pretty sessionable. Definitely, the best place to go in Stamford but that’s not really saying much as Stamford is pretty much a dead zone for beer other than this place. |
78 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD Stopped in on my way from Boston to New York. Hit right at lunch hour on a Tuesday and the parking lot was packed. Bummer. Parked around the corner in the Home Goods lot. 52 beers on tap, plenty of locals. All beers priced at $6 or $7 which was awesome. Nice menu, soup and sandwich lunch special was very tasty. Excellent service. I would definitely make this a pit stop again. |
92 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD When we came here on a monday-afternoon, we found the door closed because of the preparations for a private party (a breast-cancer fundraiser - sold out) later that day. As we came from far, the owner let us in for a beer on his costs. At the end we stayed the whole evening, enjoying great food and included beerparing from New England. The rest of the taplist was great as well, and the crew did their best to make it a great evening. And in the end, they didn’t want us to pay for it! Ofcourse we donated something for the fundraiser ...
Great place with, as you understand, big credits for the owner and his crew.

80 /100 43 HOMESTEAD AVE This is a decent sized warehouse style brewery with a large tasting room. The guy at the helm was very friendly and helpful, walking us through their tasting menu - five beers and a glass for five bucks, good deal. And the beers were very tasty. It was a bit odd that they were out of their flagship beer, how do you let that happen? But I guess it’s early days for them. I’m looking forward to trying more of their stuff. |
78 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD Visited on a Friday evening after the dinner rush. Still very busy. Lots of families. Beer list is very solid. Pizza was very good. Service was above average. |
80 /100 43 HOMESTEAD AVE A new brewery with some pretty good beers. The tasting room is down one level from the parking lot, and is suitable for several dozen patrons. They produce several small batch experiments, so returning often might be prudent for the locals. |
80 /100 Plan B Burger Bar - Stamford (Restaurant) 230 TRESSER BLVD Cool place. Great food, rotating tap, extensive bottle collection, and a lot of seasonal beers. Not a bad place to go for good beer in Stamford. |
74 /100 The Beer Garden at Harbor Point (Restaurant) 15 HARBOR POINT RD Thanks to the recent gentrification of the southern tip of Stamford’s Washington Boulevard, The Beer Garden provides a spacious outdoor drinking establishment that is a welcome addition to the city. Since this is built in a developing part of town, there are some eyesores nearby, but overall you can’t beat a beer garden right along the Long Island Sound. I visited during an unseasonably hot June Saturday afternoon, but the constant sea breeze made my drinking session tolerable, despite being in the sun. The inside bar is spacious and provides a large serving area for picking up beers and the outside is situated with picnic style seating with most tables adorned with umbrellas. Two cornhole courts are placed near the patio while more tables continue to line the outside border of the garden. Even though the place was packed, only two waitresses were taking beer orders so service was nearly impossible without getting beers directly from the bar. Can’t blame the waitresses, but that’s something that needs to be fixed. The garden does not sell food, but three food trucks lined the cul de sac in front, with an eclectic collection of BBQ, greasy spoon food and African cuisine. Their draft selection leans towards lighter, summery offerings from local microbreweries (Hooker, Half Full, Berkshire, Cisco, Victory, Dogfish). While the beer expert won’t discover many beers here, they do a nice job providing an array of quality micro offerings. I will definitely visit the Beer Garden again. |
82 /100 43 HOMESTEAD AVE New brewery in Stamford. When down on a Saturday. For fifteen dollars you get a pint glass to keep and all you can drink. The had six different beers on tap including two that were not yet being distributed out side the brewery yet. Staff was great and the brewer gave a small tour and samples off one of the fermenters. They also had two by four sized Jenga. |
78 /100 Cost Less Wines & Liquor (Beer Store) 1073 HIGH RIDGE RD While BexMax is the king of beer distribution in Stamford, Cost Less is the best location in northern Stamford. Owned by a Russian family, the owner is super nice and his staff is very helpful and knowledgeable. While their selection isn’t massive, they have a decent big bottle selection which includes your typical Belgium heavy hitters, as well as more lesser known local breweries like Berkshire and Clown Shoes. Everytime I walk in, nearly a quarter of their selection is on sale, so it’s easy to find a deal. Overall, their prices are low for the area, especially for a smaller-scale store. |
60 /100 Monster B’s Bar and Grille (Restaurant) 489 GLENBROOK RD Great craft beers on tap...Gabe runs a decent establishment for tap craft beers. Limited bottle selection but solid 30+ Taps of Domestic and Global Craft Brews... $6-$7 per craft beer outside of happy hour.. |
72 /100 Bev Max - Stamford (Beer Store) 835 E MAIN ST Liquor warehouse with metal shelving and coolers in the back left. Has a definite warehouse feel with workers shelving product, but was asked on several occasions if I needed any help. Selection was good with many relative rarities for someone from out-of-state. Unfortunately, many of the bottles were somewhat aged. Prices seemed fair for the area and I would definitely come back for a return visit when in the area. |
82 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD This place has a large bottle menu and a rotating tap list. Prices are a little high but it worth it. You can get a flight of any four beers on tap for a flat price. The thinnest pizza I have ever had and good too. Service was quick. |
76 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD have been a few times now and the food has been consistently good with the pizza being very good. beer selection is fairly large for bottles but what they have is well picked. the draft beer changes quickly with a dozen taps and they have good high quality stuff as the focus. |
94 /100 Coalhouse Pizza (Restaurant) 85 HIGH RIDGE RD Coalhouse Pizza is a jazz/blues themed pizzeria that has a vast array of delicious and unique brick oven pizza recipes and a dozen microbrews on tap with hundreds of bottles as well. Coalhouse is in a clutch location right on the edge of downtown Stamford, so it’s easy to find parking. The service is solid and owner is always around offering beer samples. Coalhouse has become my favorite beer/pizza spot in Fairfield county. With 52 taps their rotation is always changing. I’ve seen Captain Lawrence, Victory, Oskar Blues, Boulder, Dogfish Head, Avery, etc on tap. |
78 /100 Fairway Wine and Spirits (Beer Store) 699 CANAL ST Attached to fairway market, which is amazing. The beer selection is pretty good, but definitely not amazing. It’s not a beer store, so they can only give so much shelf space to beer. However, I went on the day they opened, so we’ll see how it goes. |
74 /100 Monster B’s Bar and Grille (Restaurant) 489 GLENBROOK RD Great fun at happy hour lots to taste, awesome location easily accessable to the highway .. Beer selection is like 250 different types and they are always changing them.. |
76 /100 Bev Max - Stamford (Beer Store) 835 E MAIN ST real big warehouse store with a good beer selection. I liked the layout of the store better before they moved across the street. I can always find something interesting here and they stock all the mixed 12 packs from new england brewers. They will let you take singles from six packs but there is a fee for this. Prices are generally competitive and this is a good place for party stocking. staff is always friendly and asks if they can help find things. |
78 /100 Bev Max - Stamford (Beer Store) 835 E MAIN ST Big warehouse liquor stores are uncommon in the NYC metro area. Bevmax is HUGE; I’ve only seen bigger stores in New Hampshire where they have state run liquor stores. Not only is their beer selection some of the best in Fairfield county, but their liquor and wine selection is enormous. Fair prices. |
76 /100 Monster B’s Bar and Grille (Restaurant) 489 GLENBROOK RD I have been to this place three times now and certain things are getting better. first on the beer side, the taps they have are good for the area. location is nice because it is not in downtown like all the other area places where there is no parking and a crowd. the food on the other hand is mediocre. the first time i went with a group of ten during dinner and they could not keep up. seems they book a lot of large tables for parties. the food itself was hit or miss, nothing was great and a few things were terrible. service was bearable but they knew nothing about beer that was helpful. if you are going for the beer then it is a good choice and the atmosphere is casual. the online tap list is far better than what they are serving now, must have been the list from there opening a few months ago. |
74 /100 Monster B’s Bar and Grille (Restaurant) 489 GLENBROOK RD When looking for a bar in Fairfield county with a wide selection of beers, you will usually find yourself in a stuffy, uptight WASP bar where every guy looks like a carbon copy and every girl is on her cell phone. This place is different. This is one of the few places in Fairfield country where the everyday man can find a world class beer. They have 30 beers on draft and the rotation is always changing. Even though the bartenders and wait staff tend to know very little about beer, you can’t beat the $3 happy hour drafts from 4-8 every weekday. |
