“Village pub off the main road, which begins at the petrol station. There's lots of outdoor space here but as it's still relatively close to traffic that thunders past Ings this might spoil the serenity of the place. Some respite can be found with the relaxing sounds of the stream behind the pub which is hemmed in by the rear of the houses on the other side of it. There's a couple of rooms inside with the bar in an almost artificially lit inside room, which sports a full cask selection of the regulars associated with the Brewery for this pub. I found a lot of these and the bottled versions all around the Lake District so the selection does get out beyond this pub but it's very much worth a stop.“

“Brewpub not far from Staveley, but in the middle of nowhere really. Six casks on, all house beers ranging from 3.7% to 5% and keeping to very traditional British styles. Beers in good condition, which it should be as it's the brewpub. You can get three thirds, and they have a couple of bottles. The pub itself is wonderfully old-fashioned and multi-roomed, and very dog-friendly. It's not terribly exciting on its own merit, but it's probably quite difficult to find the beers elsewhere, and as I said it's a short distance from Staveley so you can easily do the Beer Hall and here in one day.“

“Sat outside and had a pint of Waterbird Wheat from the Bowness brewery, which went down a treat after a long walk. Didn't spend much time inside, so only formed an impression, which was that they don't fell they need to try very hard. Had a half of Schi-Tzu, which is brewed in house as well, but it was uninspiring.“

“Handily placed brewery tap just outside Windermere, so hard to have an excuse not to go here. Six of their own beers on tap. Then it’s possible to buy up to 8 in bottle (different ratings for most). The food was good pub grub. Dogs everywhere - good if you’re into that, but can be a bit noisy if they all start to howl/yelp at the same time. A nice ambient atmosphere apart from that, as it seems to be a base for walkers (and their dogs). Nice, friendly service.“

“Way off the beaten track. Cavernous, not sure how they manage to keep the number of beers on cask in a drinkable condition, but they seem to manage. Worth a detour fort he chance at some less obvious local beers.“

“Nice place just off the main A591. Street parking, with some spaces a short walk away. Basement rooms, two part bar with plenty of taps, their own and guests. Beers were tasty enough. Panels of three thirds were very cheap. Staff knew the beers well and had good recommendations. Didn’t try the food. Worth a look.“

“Have visited the Watermill on a number of occasions on trips to and from the lakes, including an overnight stop. Old building with a couple of rooms around an L-shaped bar with 16 sticks. Water mill type device outside. Of the 16 sticks always a good 13 or 14 have been in service on my visits. Have had lunch and evening meals here, food is very good including the fry up on the night I stopped over. Service is fine. They have local poetry nights. Beer range is from local (ish) micro’s. JW Lees Moonraker was avaialble on draft on most of my visits here and was sold in halfs! Worth a diversion off the M6.“

“Stayed a night following Boro’s gloriously undeserved triumph at Holker St, 17/02/13. Folks sulking on arrival which loses it a point. 12 beers on not the advertised 16; mostly Watermill with pedestrian guests- another point gone. Experience dominated by yapping canines, owners, children, the hushed chinking of English cutlery, unintentionally hilarious Glaswegians demanding complementary naans, creaking doors, squeaking bedsprings. A door opens in an adjacent room and it feels as though a door has been opened in your head. Quaint or torturous depending on your level of insomnia/sleep deprivation threshold. Food filling, functional, overpriced. Recommend anything containing free-range Cumbrian superchicken. House brews uniformly uninteresting. Worth a stop but don’t overnight unless you are a heavy-sleeping non-English tourist content to spend an evening nodding over 12 variations on a hopless theme.“

“really big pub, with nice outside areas ... some with nice shelter and shade ... multi rooms ... nice windows to cellar and brewery ... friendly ... kids welcome ... good food and pretty damn decent beer,“

“A little busy as this is the local hotspot and the staff can be on edge becasue of it. But this is the place to get nearly every Watermill beer. Their food is excellent. A worthy visit but a strange experience. Dogs everywhere.“

“A nice brewpub (and popular dining spot) with a prodigious output. The Watermill Inn is just off the busy main road between Windermere and Kendal. It has a newly renovated feel about it, with rough stone whitewashed walls in the lounge, a personalised carpet, a conservatory area, a small patio and accommodation upstairs. There’s a big choice of beers with 8 taps in the main bar and another 8 in the lounge. They serve the Watermill’s own brews, many of which have dog-related names, as well as guest beers. Although it’s a pleasant place to visit just for a drink it is quite “foody” – everyone apart from us was eating when we were there early one Saturday evening. (Visited 22 October 2011).“

“Superb Lake District brewpub. Upto 16 cask ales available, with a good selection (usually 5) of their own. Lovely ambience, no piped or jukebox music or gaming machines, just a fine atmosphere. Good outdoor drinking area, exellent and varied food menu, accommodation is popular and of a good quality with some fine views from the rear rooms over to the fells. Good bottled beer range, real cider and Hoegaarden also available. What with the Hawkshead beer hall and the Eagle and Child within 2 miles, this is a goldmine of a beer hunters area and in such a gorgeous part of the world too.“

“A pub located near the main road heading to Windermere. Served by the 555 bus, which is worth noting because it would be a shame to be driving and have to miss the chance to explore the 16 real ales on tap. Several are brewed in the pub itself and others are local to the area. The bar area is quite cosy, the lounge area slightly less so because the eye is assaulted by a horrific pub carpet with a watermill motif (do you see what they did there?). Service is friendly and with a fine selection of beers to choose from it’s a good place to while away some time and try the local beers. The beers I tried (all from the in-house brewery) were in good condition and excellent. Some gentle walks in the outlying areas of Lakeland are possible from the door if you want to build a thirst first.“

“"Stoney" brew-pub in a converted saw mill, located in a tiny hamlet just a few steps off the A591 between Kendal and Windermere; 2 bars serve the several seating areas, up to 16 real ales (including 3 - 5 brews from the own brewery) are available - plus the inevitable lager fizz; the meals are very tasty; bring Your dog, pets are welcome in this watering hole.......“
