68 /100 Ship Inn (Bar) HIGHER STREET Visited on the afternoon of Saturday 28/08/21 during the Dartmouth regatta weekend.
Just up from the steam packet you may as well visit both venues here as the cask range different.
2 room back street boozer doing a good trade with live folk music out front.
Service was good but plastic glasses .... presume this was for the regatta weekend.
Dartmoor Jail, which was a decent well kept bitter, and a couple of St Austell numbers formed the cask offerings.
Decent enough boozer. |
70 /100 Steam Packet Inn (Bar) 3 FORE STREET Visited on the afternoon of Saturday 28/08/21. We were waiting for out charter train home and it was Regatta weekend in Dartmouth so busier than normal I'd imagine.
Smallish pub inside offering food ... we stayed outside on the street (plastic glasses) which offered great views or Dartmouth and the estuary.
Inside the pub held a seafaring theme and offered. At the business end service was prompt and friendly despite the busy throng who were largely outside. 3 cask lines from St Austell, Exmoor and Salcombe were on offer plus a Salcombe keg. |
68 /100 Steam Packet Inn (Bar) 3 FORE STREET A pub verging on a restaurant with a few locally brewed beers on casks & tap. Bookings ahead advised at this time of covid for tables where you can drink or try the excellent food. In the evenings it seemed acceptable to take your beer & stand out across the road to take in the excellent views of the estuary. |
74 /100 Ship Inn (Bar) HIGHER STREET A friendly & welcoming pub with a small range of cask ales, Dartmoor Jail Ale & St Austell Trelawny tried on my 2 visit. They have a outside seating area with views in front of the next door church. Food was been served in the evenings, bookings advised. |
62 /100 Steam Packet Inn (Bar) 3 FORE STREET Funky, eccentric pub opposite the Steam Railway Station, more or less the railway tap house. There is a bit seafaring theme going on, friendly, bright. There are good views over to the harbour and you can watch the cars queuing for the vehicle ferry to Dartmouth. There are 3 local brews available plus ciders. Interesting place. |
66 /100 Ship Inn (Bar) HIGHER STREET A small, harbour side boozer overlooking the Dart towards Dartmouth, up the hill a little. There is a room to the left on entering with televisions for sport, the lounge to the right is more relaxing. Ilde worlde type place but without being forced, it’s just the way it is. Mostly South West beers on offer across 5 hand pumps, the Yotter Ale is a rebadged Otter Ale. Nice place and the food sounds interesting. |
68 /100 Ship Inn (Bar) HIGHER STREET The previous review agreed with the first review and I’m going to agree with them both. Spent an afternoon in Dartmouth and the took the ferry of to this pub in early evening. The fact that we’d crossed in horrible rainy weather may have helped, however the pub seemed very welcoming. Busy and cheery. Onw of our group is from Deveon and was chattng away to people so we presumed he’d been before, but was his first time. Beers selection OK, but better than the places we went to in Dartmouth. Would come back. |
64 /100 Ship Inn (Bar) HIGHER STREET What hembro said about this place in 2012 still stands - 5 real ales (all south-west ones when we were there including some micros/seasonals), great views from the (tiny) patio, excellent seafood in the restaurant to the side of the main bar. I think they’d taken on a few extra temps for summer who weren’t up to speed - put it this way, it was clear who the regular staff and who the new staff were. Nevertheless, all staff were friendly and keen to help even if some of them weren’t that good at it! It’s the only pun worth going to in this village, and probably beats any of the pubs in Dartmouth too. I’d go back for the food and friendliness; however the beer selection could be a bit more innovative. |
72 /100 Ship Inn (Bar) HIGHER STREET Good local pub, recommended for seafood. Usually 4-5 real ales, local/national. One of 3 pubs in the village, and always the busiest. Stunning views from patio. Popular with local sailing fraternity. Landlord is very welocoming . |
