“Great spot to get decent pint. About 12 kegs and 4 casks, some of them seasonal and guest. Not bad bottle and can selection too. Mix of furniture and few tables to watch the world go by. Food served of the classic pub menu with few twists - tasty and wholesome. Friendly service and nice punters.“

“Around the corner from Notting Hill station on the tourist route to Portobello Road, it certainly gets its fair share of one-off visitors in this respect, the fact it shows live sport including football certainly draws in the aforementioned too. It's quite a nice modern-traditional design on the interior which is appealing enough, but both cask and keg are available here and the options are decent enough despite not being at the most interesting end of the market for the beer enthusiast.“

“Despite the name this is a north facing gastropub at the start of Portobello Road in Notting Hill doesn't get much sun! It's very much a foody place rather than beer, well appointed inside, you're best bet for something of interesting is their keg ales, but on my visit those beyond the Camden Town regulars were also often seen ones for myself on my visit.“

“In the quieter streets east of Portobello Road, this traditional pub has modern touches and modern outlook, serving food, with a worthwhile mix of cask and keg options. It also shows live football. Has a limited number of seats outside.“

“Twin roomed Sam Smith's pub with multiple doors allowing private access to the central bar for the majority of it window side, you'll have to sit on the inside if you don't manage to get one of these interestingly designed booths. The rear room is mainly for dining as this is a very foody Sam Smiths, as such is doesn't carry a full range of its own brews, and only keg ones.“

“Opposite Oddbins, and is a better option than its across street rival, both just off the mid section of Portobello road. It's selection of local and beyond craft cans and bottles are on shelves at the back of the shop unit.“

“Corner pub midway up Portobello Road with a shabby chic styling that's quite nice, unfortunately it has a mostly disappointing selection of beers, not the worst, but there was nothing I hadn't seen many times before here. There's some outdoor seating making a good vantage point for people watching on this popular tourist street.“

“Traditional corner pub towards the top-end of Portobello Road, with a wooden design, a mix of crafted keg and cask ales, but a limited and not too exciting selection on my visit.“

“Just off the middle of Portobello Road and opposite Jeroboams, this off-license has a limited selection of bottles and cans, with some craft and a fair bit of lager too, possibly catering for the tourist trade in the area. Jeroboams across the road has a larger and more interesting selection.“

“At the top end of Portobello Road just before the Westway flyover, this is a Spanish supermarket, although not exclusively Iberian in produce - the first beer I saw was Quilmes. There's a few better beers of interest as you don't see them too often on these shores, but are perhaps a less rare find for those on or from Continental Europe.“

“Decent traditional English pub. First or last when you visit the market in Notting Hill.
A couple of guest tap that is convenient to check out. Otherwise a quite ordinary beer selection. Better choices if you walk a bit further up to Portobello Road“

Oddbins Portobello (Beer Store)

“Visited after a gig at the Tabernacle, getting in just before they closed at 10pm on a Saturday. Mainly a wine shop, small but well stocked/laid out, and has about 40 different cans and bottles mostly from London craft brewers, plus a small number of largely uninteresting non-uk beers. Friendly service, giving good tasting notes on the range. Well worth a visit and not crazy prices either.“

“By far the best beer selection at any pub I visited (summer 16) in Notthing Hill. Especially the bottle selection is good. Decent tap/cask selection also. Absolutely recommendable. In the middle of your Portobello road trip. Perfect pit stop.“

“A really nice and good looking pub. A bit more personality than the others. You can also drink outside. Not the best beer selection, but a fair Sam Smith selection. Also some bottles. In the middle of the Portobello road market trip. Good for a pit stop.“

“At the bottom end of Portobello Road so, on market days, it can get busy with tourists and braying well-heeled types in need of a libation after an exhausting few hours shopping for overpriced tat. At other times it’s a pleasant enough place for a pint but doesn’t offer much for the beer enthusiast. As Leighton says, you may find a Portobello beer here.“

“Probably the best of the, admittedly not too inspiring, boozer options on Portobello Road. A tidy, comfortable spot with the feel of a proper pub rather than a poseur joint. It’s a Young’s pub so it’s mainly Young’s beers but there’s a sprinkling of (slightly) more interesting, often London - e.g. Meantime - beers on cask & keg. Worth a look if you’re passing.“

“One of early adopters of the Notting Hill / Westbourne Grove poseur-friendly gastropub model. The beer range wasn’t much cop before that and it hasn’t improved massively since although it does look like they might be making a less than whole-hearted foray into a slighly craftier keg range and a London cask or two. Certainly not a beer destination though and not a particularly welcoming place to just go for a drink. Not my scene at all.“

“Been in here countless times over the decades. Used to have a half-decent range of ales but since it became Sam Smiths pub that’s a thing of the past. They don’t even have the token Sam Smiths cask ale in here. However, as usual with Sam Smith’s acquisitions they’ve refurbished it rather tastefully and it’s rather more welcomong than it used to be in its slightly scuzzy former life. I once got involved in a rather heavy drinking session with Lemmy and Rat Scabies in here in the dim & distant past.“

“The place is nice although it lacks the decor of a typical English pub it purports to be. Service is alright although not as knowledgeable as one might think. Beer selection isn’t bad but could be improved. Food is quite nice although pricy too. Not a bad place but the Portobello Road, where it’s located, offers many better spots.“

“A typical English pub with a long history. The general decor and especially the tiny doors between booths tell you how old it must be. The food served comes in enormous portions and gives quite a bang for the buck given English standards. The beer selection is good insofar as Samuel Smith is included - they have almost everything.“

“An OK option for the neighbourhood but not a great shop in absolute terms. You will likely find London breweries such as Moncada, Beavertown and ELB available, perhaps some Rocky Head and Pressure Drop. Usually a few ciders to be had. Fair pricing, attentive service.“

“A decent Samuel Smiths pub located towards the southern end of the Portobello Road. The pub itself is fairly traditional and features a range of those little ’private rooms’ around 3/4 of the bar. There is also a rather fetching dining room and a garden in the back. The beer range consists of the regular Sam Smiths fare - so it isn’t very exciting. The service on my most recent visit was uninspiring; I would suspect it was the first shift for my server as she struggled 1) to pour the character beer, 2) to serve me the correct size, and 3) to operate the card machine.

All in all it’s a nice enough pub in which to have a beer if you happen to be in Notting Hill, an area that is woefully lacking in pubs serving good beer.“

“Visited on 31/03/15 around 4pm. One of the smaller London Oddbins just a minute or so from NHG tube on the north side exit as you head to Hyde Park. Selection of beers are at the front of the shop as you enter, this store is predominantly wine in comparison to others. Largely local beer range with Beavertown, Pressure Drop, Moncada, East London all represented amongst a few others. No sign of any Kernel though, which is what I was actually looking for. Service was friendly and assistance offered immediately although not taken up. Not an Oddbins I’d make an effort to visit, unlike say London Bridge, but if you’re stopping in the area or simply walking past, as I was, worth knowing about I guess.“

“A great spot for a meal but during the course of somewhat regular visits over the last four years I am continuously unimpressed by the beer selection. It really boggles my mind how a place that pays such great attention to food, wine and cocktails can be so oblivious to decent beer. It would take very little effort to dedicate a keg line to one of the numerous top-shelf London breweries. Thankfully the two cask lines now often feature London breweries (previously it was stuff like Flowerpot and Landlord), but this place still has a lot of improvement to do on the beer front. But the food is outstanding, and whether you sit indoors or out the dining experience is great. I love coming here, I just seldom order a beer. Weekend brunch is probably my favourite time to visit.“

“Very popular pub on the edge of Notting Hill with a pleasant outside area, nice in summer. Quite popular with local eurotrash. Food is tasty gastro fare. Beer selection used to be desultory but as beer has become more trendy has improved to a couple of casks and an array of kegs, mostly London breweries on my last visit.“

“A largish corner pub with a theatre upstairs and a patio out at the back. It’s fairly open plan but can get a bit cramped as the bar takes up a large part of the central area. There are four hand pumps and around 17 keg taps - nothing very exciting, although they have two guest ales (Knight of the Garter from Windsor and Eton and Dent Aviator Ale when I was last there) alongside Pride and Doom Bar. The food menu looks nice and the prices are on a par with what you’d expect in this area. Unfortunately, the service was slow and inattentive. (Last visited 31 May 2014).“

“A tiny, rather chic wine shop with a small selection of local beers. They had three or four bottles each from Moncada, Camden and Crate when I visited. It’s almost opposite Oddbins, which also carries some local beers, so although I wouldn’t make a special journey it would be worth checking out both shops if you’re in the area. “This is a nice shop - a traditional "alimentación" - with lots of enticing Spanish goods on sale but unfortunately the beer selection was very disappointing when I visited. They had only about six beers and a couple of ciders, none of them very interesting. It’s on my patch though so I’ll call in again. I may just have been unlucky. (Visited 10 April 2014).“

“A neighbourhood pub that attracts the chic locals and the visiting tourists. Not much on offer beer-wise but they do tend to have Portobello Brewery on cask. Prices are average for this kind of place, so you’re looking at upwards of four quid per pint. There aren’t many good pubs in Notting Hill (for the beer geek, anyway) so I suppose this spot is a good as any.“

Oddbins Portobello (Beer Store)

“Visited during lunch on 10/01/14. Smallish Oddbins about a 10 minute walk from Notting Hill Gate tube (Central/Circle), Ladbroke Grove is much closer. A friendly welcome and offer of help as I entered. Selection is 35/40 bottles with a heavy influence from the local Moncada brewery and also ELB, London also represented with London Fields, Redchurch and Rocky Head. Multiple offerings from Fyne, Cromarty and Celt also present along with a small overseas presence. Decent enough pricing, I picked up an ELB beer for £2.80. Compared to the other Oddbins I visit regularly - London Bridge, this is the poor relation, Portobello offers nothing more and severley lacks in comparison with zero presence from Kernel, Beavertown, Pressure Drop and By The Horns, you’d pick up the best part of 20 different beers from this quartet at Oddbins LB on a given day. Nice little local selection but I shan’t make the effort to stop by again, if you are stopping in the area why not?!“

“Decent sized pub located handily for Notting Hill Gate tube. Three cask ales, two of which were of some interest, the usual massive cold lager selection and a smallish but solid bottled range. You wouldn’t travel here to find beers but ok if you’re in the area. Barman on my visit was pretty incompetent.“

“One of a number of pubs on Portobello Road, the Duke of Wellington is probably the best if you’re looking for a watering hole whilst visiting the market. It has eight hand pumps and six or eight keg taps with a few London craft brewers’ wares alongside the Young’s range. It’s quite old fashioned with some nice traditional touches remaining in the main bar and a magnificent maroon ceiling. There are big picture windows and, as it’s on a corner, it’s a good place to sit and watch the world go by. (Visited 23 April 2013).“
