| 64 /100 CHAPEL ROAD “Visited for lunch on Saturday 5th May 2012. The Countryman is the brewpubs name even though the brewery is called ’Leila Cottage’ brewery. It is situated on a double bend on the main road through Inglemells.
Large car park and parking area for ’mobility scooters’ by the front door (with three there on my visit).
The bar is to your left as you walk in and the main eating area is forward of you with it’s own ordering system away from the bar area.
Typical seaside pub really: tacky bits and bobs, a Grimsby Town Football Club pennant and lots of windows. A big choice of seating and tables, some comfy some more basic and firmer.
Four of their brews available on hand-pulls (cask) but no bottles for taking away on my visit: they’d sold out according to the lady fronting the bar.
Mixed bag of customers: the local retired boys (who owned the scooters outside), more able bodied regulars and holiday makers making the place fairly busy.
The beers were in fine form and the food OK, again like the layout a typical seaside pub/cafe menu of Fish & Chips, Gammon, Chilli, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Burgers, etc, etc.
Not really worth a special visit but if you are tripping along the Lincolnshire coast please pop in and see for yourself: I’ll be re-visiting as my parents live fairly close by.“ |
| 64 /100 CHAPEL ROAD “The Countryman Inn is situated about a mile or so away from Butlins, Skegness and is therefore about 3.5 miles north of Skegness itself. We visited here on Sunday 2nd December whilst at the Great British Folk Weekender at Butlins. This pub did a cracking Sunday lunch, nothing fancy but very reasonably priced and you could have a dessert as well (think traditional English puddings) all for £7.95. The pub is also a brewpub with Leila Cottage brewery situated on site. The beers are absolutely fine without ever really exciting you, a bit like the surrounding countryside really, though actually this stretch of coast is wall to wall caravan parks so you can’t really see much countryside. I had the golden ale (forgot name) and the Acer, the Acer was the hoppier of the two so was my personal favourite. At £2.60 a pint it is also very, very cheap here. The locals were really friendly and whilst I am not a great fan of Skegness or the surrounding area the beach and seafront was better than I expected. Back to the pub, it is situated on a bend on the A52 and is a bigger pub than it looks from the front. There is plenty of seating throughout and a pool table and further seating towards the rear. If you are in the area then I would suggest that it would be worth popping into.“ |
