Lodge (Bar)
OLD HUNSTANTON ROAD
“Just a short walk from the Mariner Inn in Old Hunstanton down a lane and across a very busy coastal trunk road. Another hotel type complex, mainly set up for diners but with a pleasant terrace area, ideal for drinkers. Covid queuing on arrival and a one way system, to the confusion of many, but not on the crazy, off putting end of the scale. You can actually choose your beer at the bar, praise be, however this is another North Norfolk pub with an unaccountable love of Suffolk macros, so nothing for the beer hunter in here.“

“From the front this appears to be a rather ancient Inn, it's alternative name is the Ancient Mariner, possibly more to do with the wonderful poem than the age. Most of the action is round the back though, with a very pleasant terrace area with views across the Wash looking west from Old Hunstanton, nicely sheltered on a very blustery day. This is towards the crazy end of Covid protection with queues for just about everything other than seating, you don't get to see the beers available, relying on the queue masters memory, paying for it, then weirdly having to pick up the beers yourself from the bar and then seeing the beers that She forgot to tell you, but there is little of interest in here for the beer hunter, another North Norfolk pub with a strange love of Suffolk macros, if I knew this at the start I wouldn't have queued, too much trust in the GBG unfortunately. Food is excellent though and the views also.“

“Large pub cum lodgings house in the bucket and spade end of Hunstanton, just off the pleasure beach area. Covid opening hours differ from their normal hours opening half an hour later. Pleasant courtyard area, recently updated inside with a nautical theme for the holidaymakers. Unfortunately only nationally available standard beers available on my visit, nothing to interest the beer traveler. Moved on.“
