Trappist beers and some excellent cheese - a combination made in heaven, and at decent prices, a place I visited often.

Belgian beers are hard to find in Prague, and when you do, they’re expensive with a capital F. At this point the chain of Cheesy cheese shops offer bottles from all the Trappist breweries except Westvleteren, as well as a selection from Lindemans. Surprisingly, the Orval, Westmalle, La Trappe, Achel, Chimay and Rochefort bottles here sell for roughly half the price of other places in Prague: the .75-liter bottle of Achel Extra Bruin I’m drinking tonight went for 230 Kč, or roughly €9.43 small (.33-liter) bottles of Orval, Rochefort, Chimay, etc. are 75 Kč (except for Rochefort 10, which is 90 Kč). The aged Dutch cheeses, by the way, are fantastic — buy some with your bottle and make a picnic. Other locations are at •Štefánikova 23, Praha 5 •Jugoslávská 23, Praha 2 •V kolkovně 5, Praha 1 (Old Town, right off Old Town Square) and around the Czech Republic (Pražská 21 and Americká třída 23 in Plzeň Pekařská 10 in Brno more listed at http://cheesy.vemeno.cz/cz/108/127/Obchody.html) Enjoy.
