| Rastacouere (478), Montréal, Quebec | | October 12, 2004 Bottle selection is a fraud. Come here with no expectations, because every rare bottle in their menu is not available in their cellar. We first asked mariage parfait kriek, speciaal brouwsel, bière du lion, brakspear 99, then we went for more available stuff with: &quo;any of the 6 fanôme you have on the menu will be fine&quo; and once again, they had none of those. Very annoying, so you really have to come mostly to enjoy the tap and have no expectations to find very rare bottles. I must say the waitress felt pretty bad about this though, but we were confirmed later that the vintage section has not been updated since 2 yrs. Besides, it’s a very nice sqaure room with lots of beer accessories, not overcrowded, moderately noisy with mostly a neighborhood crowd. Rather cheap prices too. They had sierra harvest ale on tap, but I found most others to be mostly uninteresting despite being so many. | maltydog (4), Brooklyn, New York does not count - explanation | | September 20, 2004 A long-standing institituion in Williamsburg, with a very good draft selection and some amazing bottles. Always comfortable atsmophere and the folks who work here are great. | | fly (194), austin, Tejas, | | September 16, 2004 Another place walking distance from my friend’s In Brooklyn - too bad that I was taken there AFTER filling myself at Brooklyn Brewing. Had initially only stopped in because I told my friend I had to piss on the way home. After finding relief I saw the bar and said we had to stay for at least another pint. Mmmmm | | Eyedrinkale (129), Astoria, New York | | August 16, 2004 [ Updated August 26, 2005 ] My third favorite stop when in Brooklyn behind Spuyten and Barcade. I love getting a a 1997 OSA for about $10. The bottle menu really stands out but the draft menu is good also. They usually have a Happy Hour pint for $3 or so. I’ve had a seafood linguine there that was pretty good and the burgers are good also. | Volgon (8), Manchester, New Hampshire does not count - explanation | | July 8, 2004 After a short sweaty walk through Brooklyn, this bar’s airconditioning was most welcome. Great beer selection with many older and rare beers (1994 Bigfoot and Anchor OSA, for example). Many beers on tap and enough new beers to keep me writting the entire time. Worth a stop if you are in the area. | | Oakes (428), Vancouver, British Columbia | | June 21, 2004 Clean, American-style pub. Tap list is good if not spectacular. Found a couple of special beers, though. Solid, well-built bottle list, with a small vintage section. Service was quick. Prices were pretty low I thought. Didn’t eat. Solid place. | | austinpowers (152), New York, New York | | April 5, 2004 [ Updated August 17, 2007 ] Didn’t impress. Old man bar with a few Dogfish beers. I don’t know what the hype is about this place. It smelled like barf when I was there.
Revisit: This time, the place smelled not barfy but like bleach - it was really strong and I had to get outta there. Several strange-looking bearded old men wearing Dogfish shirts. Mugs is like a 40-something beerdork hangout. | | Nuffield (74), Roseville, Minnesota | | March 17, 2004 I loved this place. The food was good, but the beer was great. A cask ale from England was available, and the bottle selection was great too--I had an Hercule Stout, what a treat. I sat near the windows and was way too hot. Being close to the Brooklyn Brewery, this was a perfect place to go before heading over there. | | MaiBockAddict (76), Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey | | March 5, 2004 [ Updated March 8, 2004 ] Have not been in a while, but a cool place. Malted Barley Appreciation Society meets here. Friendly atmosphere. Lotsa beer. |
