| mullet (182), Melbourne, Australia | | December 30, 2009 Great shop. Range isn’t encyclopaedic but exceptionally well selected. Really interesting stuff from Belgium, Scandinavia and the US on top of heaps of interesting Italian stuff including a few things made especially for them. Beautifully set out as well. Fantastic service on my visit, full of suggestions for the travelling geek and he seemed very aware that Italian beer seems expensive to outsiders (not so much to Australians though!). Nice wine selection too. Short walk from the Vatican too - I managed to have the girls save my spot in the queue whilst I went beer shopping. Genius, except I couldn’t find the baggage check area inside. | | Misticbeer (14), Rome, Italy | | December 30, 2009 A good place to buy some great beer from every place of the world. The second Johnny shop! The place it’s quite big, and they have also (so much) wine and spirits. Staff quite good.
| | sayravai (99), Helsinki, Finland | | December 21, 2009 [ Updated December 25, 2009 ] 1000 bottles - come on, it’s much closer to 100-150! The number of beers available was a real disappointment after reading the ratings. Anyway, practically all the beers in the fridge, and carefully selected. Most of the shelves were packed with wine, and only the fridges and a few shelves had beer in them. Overall it’s a great beer store, mainly because of the fridges, careful selection and reasonable prices. No beer glasses sold here, but credit cards are accepted. Prepare to wait a bit at busy times, if there are people asking for wine recommendations. | | Alex420 (20), Rome, Italy | | November 9, 2009 Better than the Via Veio one. New but pricy as well. Great Staff. Very nice fridges.
Unfortunately wine oriented as well. | | shrubber85 (60), Wallhalben, Germany | | August 1, 2009 Not far from the Vatican and the Ottaviano "San Pietro" stop on Metro Linea A. Great selection of Italian beers especially Baladin with a nice selection of other countries - even a decent selection of Mikkeller beers. Had the whole shop to myself late afternoon on a Friday - only one staff member when I was there but she was very friendly despite the language barrier. They accept credit cards. Definitely worth a trip when in Rome especially to get something besides Peroni and Birra Moretti. | | KnutAlbert (153), Oslo, Norway | | May 14, 2009 More space than in the other shop, very handy if you are in the Vatican area. Enormous range of Italian micros, personal and attentive service, helping you pick just what you need. | | JK (119), Richfield, Minnesota | | April 7, 2009 [ Updated April 16, 2009 ] I am surprised to see this is not rated yet. I didn’t make it to Off License, so this was by far the best shop I found in two weeks in Italy. I don’t think there are quite 1,000 different beers, but there is an extensive Italian and Belgian selection, and some things from Germany and the UK I have not seen before. John took a lot of time to teach me about Italian beer, and even opened a bottle for me to drink in the shop. Prices are low for beer, mostly. 15 for selection, because it is far larger than anything else I could find. This is a great store. |
