94 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20
Iíd say itís the best selection in SF, probably the whole Bay Area. As mentioned in other reviews, prices are a little higher than other places, but then again, a lot of the things you wonít find there. It is out of the way, but definitely worth the trip. Also, they donít keep everything on their website or even on the shelves, so if youíre looking for something special you should ask.

Holy crap. Talk about a hidden gem. This is away from any other beer stops in the city. Its also away from just about anything else you might want to see in the city. That said, you should really make an effort to get here at least once. Upon walking up to it I was immediately reminded of Healthy Spirits as they are small, located in a residential neighborhood, and sport a Chimay sign right out front. Inside the layout is a bit different but they also carry the high end snacks right next to the register to go with the expensive beer. There is an island in the middle of the store with beer on one side and liquor on the other. The rest of the room (the walls) is all beer. One wall is full of shelves and the others are full of fridges. Itís impressive. And I didnít see a Budweiser anywhere in the place. Naturally some of the big name California brewers where there like Stone, Bear Republic, Lagunitas, Ballast Point, etc. Oddly enough Russian River was absent though there was a signed growler on top of the shelves that said ďdo not touchĒ. Maybe theyíre saving that last ever sold Pliny the Younger growler for some special tasting. Who knows. They also have a large collection of Mikkeller and Struise as well as a pile of other imports both Belgian and otherwise. In front of the window is a collection of glassware that was pretty nice. Might have to grab a 2L Weihenstephaner boot for the next time I head to a German restaurant with Vitus. They also have the $16 Anchorage Brewing glass. Prices were a touch high but the selection and the service were very good. The clerk handed me a business card and told me that the entire beer selection is on their website. Iíll have to check on that to verify but that would be great if they kept it up to date. I will definitely make an effort to get back here some time soon, though it is out of the way.

The guy working there is great. Heís super into beer and serious about it, but also enthusiastic. The ambiance would be rated a 5, but itís the neighborhood -- itís a corner-type store (which is completely surprising to me because it deserves so much more than being a "corner" store) so anyway, there might be a random guy interrupting for change or whatever. Iíve been to City Beer, Healthy Spirits, and now here: For beer bottle purchases, this is the best to me. This, then City Beer (because they also serve beer), and then Healthy Spirits. Healthy Spirits is more than beer though. Need to get to Ales Unlimited without a vehicle? Check out MUNI for bus routes, etc.: http://www.sfmta.com/cms/mmaps/official.htm

Excellent selection but easy to miss. Looks like any old convenience store from the outside. But inside is a whole lot of awesome beer.

This place is hidden treasure in Pacific Heights and San Francisco. Great selection of beers, wine and european imports. The owner is a really nice guy who is concerned with delivering excellent customer service and quality products to his customers. If they donít have a beer in stock or you looking for something rare he will try to source it for you. Also they got special deals they send out with their mailing list. If you like to get on it just send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org and mention beer info.
