On the country lanes entering the not-so-manic town of Taunton you could easily miss Sheppy’s. Being used to large wineries in Oz going all industrial I had the same expectations of this place, but was pleasantly surprised. Dirt road entrance and orchard and farmland surround. A somewhat tiny cellar door almost like a kiosk is the main meeting area. A teahouse aside where they do Devonshire lunches and my own highlight through a brick arch is the museum of all things scrumpy. When tasting the Dabinett you can clearly see, smell and feel this cider’s origins in the orchards that surround. Fat pigs, grazing sheep, inquisitive ducks and ferocious geese. Loved it. The cellar is family run and friendly, helpful and knowledgable. Worth a visit!!
