Well lets get the only possitive thing out of the bag first which is free delivery to any of there stores. The website is build for wine so you can’t filter on beer style. The service is horrible, often have I experienced waiting 2-3 weeks just to get a update on my order that one or more of the beers is sold out. The prices are ridiculous expensive. If you take in mind that this is the only outlet in the country for beers stronger than 4.75% the selection is pretty bad and the selection changing 4-5 times a year is not nearly often enough. I try to avoid shopping here at all costs.

Vinmonopolet has a rather unusually position in Norway as we have the alcohol monopoly. Anyway, the beer selection is decent and the situation could have been a lot worse, and it actually was a few years ago. You got beers in most styles, and the selection is frequently changing. The most negative thing is the bad logistic. There is just one common message for everything that might happen, i.e. if anything is delayed from the supplier you will receive a message telling out of stock. Quite misleading and frustrating as this could be solved easily with a waiting list. You actually have to manually check the stock regular and make another order. Another negative thing is the lack of information regarding your order status even if you create your own customer profile. The status on previous orders is just “behandles” (processed) even if the order has been delivered years ago. On the positive side, you don’t have to pay anything for the fright if you select a local pick-up point. The staff at my local shop really try to do their best but they obviously fight with a rather bad working system.

Ok, so it’s a webshop, and it’s plagued with the Norwegian alcohol sales regulations, but even considering that I’m far from impressed. They have interesting beers, but you can’t order every beer they have in their range, some of the best you have to show up at certain physical stores to get, and even for a webshop the service isn’t good. I use it, but that’s mainly because it saves me a visit at my nearest physical store to order the beers I want.

My steady source of new beers, ordered from the comfort of my home, and delivered without any postage / shipping charge to my local post office. You can order all beers in "bestillingsutvalget", and from Vinmonopolet’s permanent range, but not from "spesialutvalget". If a beer is temporarily sold out, you will have to try again later - no waiting list or pre-order system available.
