| | DeadGirl (43), West Palm Beach, Florida | | October 10, 2009 [ Updated October 11, 2009 ] This simple store/hidden gem introduced me to the craft beer revolution while I was attending the Univ. of Rochester. While their beer selection is far from simplistic, the store is hidden inside a strip mall and has a basic interior- all things beer. Bottles are divided by country and the best thing is you don’t have to commit to the daunting 6-pack of a mysterious ale as they can be sold individually. Diverse selection- and as all Rochestertarians know, "IT’S HUGE, ROCHESTER, HUUU-GE!" Prepare to drop a couple Benjamins. #1 on 10102009 DG. | M00se (1), Ontario does not count - explanation | | September 23, 2009 Not somewhere you’re going to stumble across by accident, but I’m very glad I got taken there! Huge selection; while it’s relatively easy to find specific beers, it’s much better to just browse. Worth the 5-rh drive (one way) from home just to get the variety and the huge number of beers sold here that I can’t get in Canada. | dagimp (7), Philly, Pennsylvania does not count - explanation | | September 11, 2009 It’s in a strip mall and not visible from the road so you have to know it’s there. Inside it’s a huge place with a TON of rare and cool beers. I had a hard time finding the macros it was so big and packed with good beer! Beers are arranged by country. Craft beers were mostly in alpha order but I did notice a bunch were not correctly placed. Prices were average for almost all products I looked at but any out of season beer (even though they were well within their freshness date) were discounted and were great bargains. Well, maybe not some RIS and barleywines. Service was outstanding. I talked with a very knowledgeable employee and he gave me a few recommendations. He really seemed to like his job. I don’t live anywhere this place but if I did, I’d be back in a second. Cheers! | | williamherbert (17), Syracuse, New York | | July 27, 2009 The best beer store I’ve been to. A massive selection separated by country. You can guy half-cases, six packs, individual bottles or kegs. Lots of hard-to-find and obscure breweries are represented, and they always have a good deal if you look hard enough. A first-class beer store. | | decaturstevo (59), decatur, Tennessee | | September 23, 2008 Great selection many northeast beers and just a huge selection overall. The service was ok but I new what I was looking for. Ran out of money before they ran out of beer. Would recommend that any and everyone stop by when in the area. | | KyotoLefty (134), Kyoto, Japan | | September 21, 2008 I go here twice a week when I am back in town. Can’t say much about service because I take my own list. They have an amazing selection. Yes, the prices are higher than elsewhere, but elsewhere you can not buy one bottle at a time. It costs much less than what you would have paid for the other 5. The US micro selection is especially good. | animal69 (1), Tha Rock, New York does not count - explanation | | June 12, 2008 this is my fav. place in the world, thev’e got about everything, and if they don’t they can get you a nice 2nd choice, the only downfalls are quite a few out-of-dates (mostly macro imports) and it could be bigger... | ZedOmega (5), Rochester, New York does not count - explanation | | May 28, 2008 I love this place. It’s only a few miles away from home so I make about 1 trip per month on average. There’s a massive selection which never ceases to amaze me. I usually buy by the bottle, but it’s nice to have 6-packs available. I’ve never tried any larger quantities. It’s very easy to drop $100+ without any effort at all so by the end of the year my “total donation” is rather sizable. Staff seems to range from knowledgeable to simply employed, but they’ve all been helpful to some extent. Stock can be old, but I’ve been lucky and haven’t had a skunked beer from BotW. Did I mention I love this place? | | notalush (166), Denver, Colorado | | May 23, 2008 This store is massive, and well organized - it’s a bit dingy inside, and has the feel and charm of a grocery store that you would find in the bad part of town - but you don’t really pay attention to that because you’re too busy moving up and down the aisles looking at the beer - the first thing I saw in the store was a display case with vintage bottles of thomas hardy’s ale - nice - they had all the american microbrews that I’ve seen available in the state - as far as the imports, the german selection is most impressive (a lot of german beer I’d never seen before), and the belgian probably comes in second - prices range from good to really high (not sure how they come up with them) - the macros are tucked away in the back of the store like the third class brews they are (nice) - the only regions I’ve seen that have better stores than this are NYC and Boston - high marks. |
