Finally, I got a chance to visit the pub that is supposed to be the best beer destination in Norway. I was not let down! It’s a rather monumental, carefully made and well-kept place in the best British pub style. Two floors both of them with a quite large, half-moon bar. Location is very good, right in central part of the old town with its narrow, brick-covered streets. Very well selected beer menu on taps and bottles. The 21 taps display interesting beers when it comes to different countries, breweries and styles. The huge bottled menu is like a reading book, well written and very informative about each of the bottles. Beers are served in different sizes, including beer trays. Friendly, attentive and clever service in a welcoming atmosphere. Truly a home away from home (Meet-up with the local RBHD group on 18. June and then again on my own 20. June 2015).

OK bar, insanely overpriced by any rational standard. Bearable service decent selection.

Yes it’s "pricy", but it’s in Norway so that’s ok. I truly love the people working there, my girlfriend works there from time to time and so I got to know most of the staff. Some people have a brillant expertise on craft beer, the ambience is great since they have a rather high age limit (24?) so there’s no loud teenagers celebrating in there. The selection is close to unrivaled, at least in Europe and for that alone "Cardinal" deserves huge credit. Given that the pub has existed for a long time now and clearly helped to promote craft beers and the culture around it I have the highest respect for Sigmund.
If you ever get the chance you HAVE to go there.

Best in Norway. Great place. Many Norwegian beers on tap. Also continental beers, there is always a Mikkeller or four on tap. Amazing bottle selection.

Might be biased cause I live in Stavanger and visit this awesome beer pub regularly. 22 taps which about 18-20 are craft beer and 2-4 are "regular beers" for the non-initiated beer lovers. Service is great with a well thought staff. Prices are stiff, but hey this is Norway, it’s not the cheapest place to get craft beer in Norway but due to the high amount of distinct beers they have I forgive them for the slightly higher price on some bottles! This is a true pub with nice ambiance and toned down music so you can actually have a nice discussion around your beer. Even if it’s in the middle of the town centre this place is for people enjoying beer in good company and not a place where you often see overintoxicated people. They have a 5 beer flight from tap to a discounted price and regular tasting to new beers every other monday. Place is crowded most evenings (even during the weekdays) but if you want to enjoy a pint in peace come early (3pm saturday is a good time to sit down and read a newspaper with a nice beer). 2 floors so if it’s packed downstairs take the stairs up. Possibility to reserve tables for bigger crowds and hold private beer tastings. Good selection of local and national norwegian beers as well as international beers. Imho best beer pub in Norway.

Fantastic Bar, generally good tap fayer, love the Lurvig. Failing the taps, the huge beer bible is among the best I have seen. Hideously expensive even for the crap UK stuff I have seen there on draft, Speckled Hen, Guinness. Bottled Speedway, £45. There is a very good atmosphere here and a good mixed crowd, always busy when I have been

Cardinal belongs to one of the best beer pubs I’ve ever been to. With currently 20+ beers on tap and around 500 on bottle, the selection is overwhelming. The selection of beers on tap is changing frequently, and there is a big variety of Norwegian microbrews available.
In addition to that, Cardinal does a lot to promote high quality beer by conducting arrangements like beer tastings, beer enthusiast’s meetings (with reduced prices) and even homebrew courses with live brewing on the pub.
The staff is genuinely interested in beer; most of them know more about beer then I do.
I’m glad that this place exists in my town.
