| YogiBeera (109), Hamburg, Germany | | October 24, 2005 Nice place and funny enough the hotel guy told us that "Amercians don’t find it" - well why this is only a problem of Americans, I didn’t ask, pivo found it right away, maybe he lives long enough in Germany :-) Nice small narrow building, a bit to loud classic music - I like it but it was kind of blarring. Pretty good visited for a Tuesday afternoon - locals and tourists and weird enough a familiy with two kids, all of them drinking hot chocolate. Nice Beer Card with some specals - but more the normal suspicios. Snacks are served with your beer. Staff was friendly but a bit lame and not really caring. | | TBone (123), Pori, Finland | | July 30, 2005 Interesting place but very crowded. Worth of visiting just for their own excellent house tripel. | | mullet (133), Melbourne, Australia | | June 28, 2005 Cool place which isn’t at all hard to find when you have Tim Webb’s book. I like the building a lot but every other aspect (service, beer list, ambience) was only OK, though by no means bad. Worth a look but I’d really only go there when Brugs Beertje is shut :) | | diabel (18), Aarschot, Belgium | | February 9, 2005 Luckfully I read the comments on the Garre before I went over there, so I found this tiny pub immediately. I loved the cosiness of the place. Nice selection, but not very exclusive compared to some other beerpubs. | | kook (36), Perth, Western Australia, Australia | | January 4, 2005 Easy enough to find as long as you keep walking along the right hand side between market and burg. Nice selection, and a wonderful house tripel. Nothing too rare, but lots of good beer. Did not try any food here apart from the complimentary cheese. | | DanielBrown (73), Birmingham (via Leicester), England | | November 9, 2004 One of those less user friendly bars, where they don’t inform you of the abvs of the beers on the list: my buddy had a draught 10.5% Gulden Draak, which the waitress described as only fairly strong! Tucked away, this is a relaxing bar, with a nice list, although they won’t let you stand - get a chair or get out! | | TheBeerGod (97), Newport News, Virginia | | September 27, 2004 We walked by the opening to this place twice despite getting directions. We just didn’t see the hole you had to go through for it. When we found it we got lucky as there were still a few tables left upstairs. Had the triple de Garre. Nice beer! Had a few others before departing. Had nice conversation with a Canadian and his German girlfriend while there. Great place with friendly service. | | CampbellWilson (11), , Scotland | | August 27, 2004 Great Range, friendly and knowledgeable staff, superb atmosphere. Go to Brugge in the winter if you don’t like it busy! | | madsberg (35), Søborg, Denmark | | June 18, 2004 Very hard to find. Lies in an alley on the right hand just in the middle of Breidelstrasse when you walk from Markt to Burg. Very nice place indeed. Was packed the 3 times we were there, but we didn’t really have any trouble finding a table. The other guests are willing to share a table if necessary. Service is great. Had the same waiter all 3 days, and he was friendly and helpful. Good knowledge in beers. The Tripel du Garre is worth the whole visit. Do what you can to find this place. | | MrRomero (105), Nolanville, Texas | | January 25, 2004 [ Updated November 28, 2004 ] Nov 2003: Impossible to find and so packed when we did find it that we couldn’t get a seat. We were told to leave. Oh well. Rerate Nov 2004: sat upstairs in the nonsmoking section even though I wanted to smoke but it was too busy downstairs. We ended up getting a table downstairs after our first round. Waiters were friendly. Served a small dish of cheese cubes with each round. Nice local atmosphere. A cool place to hang if you can get in. |
